## Overview

Juniper Springs Campground is one of the most popular campgrounds in the Ocala
National Forest. The location offers deeply shaded sites within walking
distance of some of Florida's most beautiful natural springs. The surrounding
recreation area has plenty of activities to entertain visitors, including
swimming, picnicking, canoeing, snorkeling, hiking, birding and wildlife
viewing.  
  
This campground was named one of Reserve America's Top 100 Family Campgrounds
in the United States.

## Recreation

Visitors love swimming in a 72-degree, natural pool found in the day use area.
Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it is more developed with a
pool-like look.

Paddling Juniper Run is also extremely popular year-round. Juniper Run is
recognized as one of the top 25 canoe runs in America by ReserveAmerica. This
7-mile waterway winds through a scenic landscape, surrounded by a dense canopy
of ancient trees in an old-growth forest.

While the journey offers picturesque scenery, it's important to highlight that
**Juniper Run is not suitable for beginners due to its challenging course and
changing conditions**. The run travels through a National Wilderness Area, and
as defined in The Wilderness Act of 1967 Section 4(c): "There shall be no use
of motor vehicles, motorized equipment, or motorboats, no landing of aircraft,
no other form of mechanical transport, and no structure or installation within
any such area." So, clearing the run is limited to hand tools only. The run
often has hazards overhead and underwater that make navigation difficult -

statewide Florida National Scenic Trail, or walk a shorter nature trail within

Mill Dam Group Campground offers a fun and relaxing setting for groups of up
to 150 to enjoy Ocala National Forest. Large picnic shelters and access to
outdoor and water recreation make this area ideal for family reunions and
other large parties.

The campground sits along the 168-acre Mill Dam Lake, and water activities are
popular among campers and day-use visitors.  
  
Anglers come from all over to enjoy bass fishing. Campers can bring their
boats, canoes and kayaks for easy access to the water via an adjacent boat

A large swimming beach and picnic area are great ways to keep the kids
entertained.

## Facilities

In the spring, summer and early fall, Mill Dam is a day-use area only. For the
remainder of the year, it becomes a group campground and recreation area for
both day-use and tent camping.  
  
Amenities include a picnic shelter, group grills, picnic tables and flush
toilets. The parking lot can hold up to 70 vehicles.  
  
A boat ramp adjoins the recreation area, on a separate entrance.

The sandy swimming beach provides a great place to relax and picnic. Campers
have access to Buck Lake to enjoy fishing for panfish, bass and crappie, as
well as boating.  
  
Hikers can access a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida Trail via a scenic trail
that loops around the lake for 1.7 miles.

## Facilities

This campground provides primitive camping for groups. Amenities include a
vault toilet, a hand pump for drinking water, six picnic tables and a group
campfire ring. Group get exclusive use of the facility during the reservation.

Doe Lake is a group campsite with a variety of activities. Centered around a
historic lodge with a large group kitchen, it's an ideal place for major
outdoor gatherings of up to 250 people. The site is a favorite among

Visitors can swim, snorkel and dive year-round in the crystalline waters of
the spring. The spring is the only place in the Ocala National Forest where
scuba diving is permitted, and a broad and naturally gently sloped spring pool
becomes a natural water park where visitors can picnic, swim and play.  

If you are planning to visit the weekend of Memorial Day through Labor Day on
a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, you will be required to obtain a Vehicle
Access Reservation.  
  
Fishing and canoeing are p opular outside the swimming area. Anglers can bring
a rod and reel and head down to one of the platforms along the Timucuan Trail
to drop a line in Alexander Run. Visitors can rent canoes or bring their own

spring and through the palm trees. They can also access two segments of the

far one of the easiest for visitors to enjoy. The water is a constant 72
degrees and extraordinarily clear with a sandy bottom.

gum and cabbage palms. Alligators, turtles, deer, raccoons, black bear and
numerous birds make their home in the national forest.

National Forest, with a spectacular natural mineral spring that gives the area
its name. Plenty of outdoor activities keep campers and day-use visitors busy,
including swimming in the springs, fishing, snorkeling, hiking and boating.
Salt Springs is located between the St. Johns and Ocklawaha Rivers, 35 miles
east of Ocala, Florida.  
  
The national forest spans four counties and 383,000 acres. It is the
southernmost and oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River, and
protects the world's largest, contiguous sand pine scrub forest.

## Recreation

The natural springs, nearby Lake George and many surrounding rivers and
streams provide ample opportunity for water recreation. Anglers can try a good
fishing spot on Salt Springs Run, downstream of the swimming area, boat ramp
and marina. Boat rentals are nearby.  
  
For those who wish to explore on land, the facility has basketball courts and
a horseshoe pit. Hikers have easy access to the Bear Swamp Trail and a segment
of the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail.

Big Bass Campground (FL)

## Overview

A massive patch of blue in a sea of green - that's Lake Dorr, one of the
prettiest big lakes in the Ocala National Forest. Experience outdoor
recreation at either the Lake Dorr Recreation Area - campground or day use -
or by renting the cabin for your family or group. Along the northwest shore of
the lake, the recreation area is set under the deep shade of an oak hammock.
Offering RV camping, we also have a boat ramp and picnic area overlooking the

Lake Dorr Campground

The 19-mile Pipeline OHV Trail is one of the easiest OHV trails to access
within the Ocala National Forest, with a prominent trailhead along SR 316
between Salt Springs and Eureka.  
  
Open to motorcycles and ATVs, the trail includes some sharply banked curves
through the scrub at the north end of the northernmost of the three stacked
loops. Use the Pipeline Trail to access to the Tobacco Patch OHV Trail, Hog
Valley OHV Trail, Longleaf OHV Trail and the Motorcycle Loop.

**OHV Riding  **

  * To ride our OHV trails, you'll need a pass and safety gear. Riders under 16 must pass an online course. Our OHV web page has all the information you need for a safe, enjoyable trip. 

**Camping - Dispersed/Primitive Camping **

Pipeline OHV Trailhead

## Overview

Lake Dorr Cabin is set along the south shore of beautiful Lake Dorr, ideal for
a family getaway. The cabin is open year-round and creates a great setting for
plenty of outdoor water fun. The rental includes a private boat ramp, canoes
and a fishing dock. It's located just over an hour from popular amusement
parks and other exciting attractions in Orlando.  
  
The cabin entrance and bathroom is accessible. A flat section on the property
fits two tents if guests wish to camp outside.

## Recreation

Boating, skiing, jet skiing, fishing and swimming are among the most popular
activities for guests. The abundance of largemouth bass, crappie and pan fish
entice anglers.  
  
A private boat ramp, fishing dock, picnic table, grill and three canoes with
life vests are provided.

## Facilities

Lake Dorr Cabin is a modern, newly restored facility with polished hardwood
floors and large windows that overlook the lake. The cabin sleeps 10 guests,
with a queen bed in one bedroom, two sets of bunk beds in the other bedroom
and two sleeper sofas in the living room. Electricity and drinking water are
available, along with a flush toilet and hot shower. Modern amenities in the
kitchen include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and electric stove.

Lake Delancy West is an OHV recreation area along Lake Delancy that houses OHV

south runs to Salt Springs.

**OHV Riding**

  * OHV riders are welcome to camp at Lake Delancy, the major entrance point for the Ocala North OHV Trail System. A large OHV corral outside of the campground area gives you a place to park your ATV at night.

## Overview

Clearwater Lake Recreation Area offers a quiet getaway along the southeastern
edge of the Ocala National Forest, just outside the community of Paisley,
Florida. With a shaded campground, day use picnic area, beach and a nature
trail that winds through the pine woods and scrub around Clearwater Lake, this
facility has plenty of activities to keep campers occupied.  
  
The Ocala National Forest, in north central Florida, spans four counties and
383,000 acres. It is the southernmost and oldest national forest east of the
Mississippi River, and protects the world's largest, contiguous sand pine
scrub forest.

## Recreation

The abundant water in the area offers many opportunities for recreation. In
addition to swimming in the lake, a 7-mile canoe trail meanders not far from
Clearwater Lake. Canoe rentals are available at the campground. Campers can
fish for largemouth bass, brim or catfish. Hikers have access to the
Clearwater Lake Loop Trail, a 1.3-mile nature trail; a segment of the
1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail; and mountain bikers can ride the
Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail, a 22-mile forested path. This is bear country;
practice safe food storage techniques. It is also alligator country; practice
caution around water.

Clearwater Lake. Sites accommodate motor homes, trailers and tents, and flush

Access this 14-mile system of stacked loops from the Motorcycle Loop Trailhead
along FR 66 west of Lake Delancy, or from a number of connecting trails - the
Hog Valley Trail, Tobacco Patch Trail, Longleaf Pine Trail and Pipeline Trail.

The Ocala North OHV Trail System offers 125 miles of trail which includes a
14-mile motorcycle-only trail; 35 miles of trail usable by motorcycles, all
terrain vehicles (ATVs), and utility vehicles (UTVs) less than 50 inches wide;
and 76 miles classified as "mixed use," which means OHVs share the trail with
licensed vehicles.
