Mill Dam Group Camp

Overview

Mill Dam Group Campground offers a fun and relaxing setting for groups of up to 150 to enjoy Ocala National Forest. Large picnic shelters and access to outdoor and water recreation make this area ideal for family reunions and other large parties.

Recreation

The campground sits along the 168-acre Mill Dam Lake, and water activities are popular among campers and day-use visitors.

Anglers come from all over to enjoy bass fishing. Campers can bring their boats, canoes and kayaks for easy access to the water via an adjacent boat ramp.

A large swimming beach and picnic area are great ways to keep the kids entertained.

Facilities

In the spring, summer and early fall, Mill Dam is a day-use area only. For the remainder of the year, it becomes a group campground and recreation area for both day-use and tent camping.

Amenities include a picnic shelter, group grills, picnic tables and flush toilets. The parking lot can hold up to 70 vehicles.

A boat ramp adjoins the recreation area, on a separate entrance.

Natural Features

Located in north central Florida, the Ocala National Forest spans four counties and 383,000 acres. It is the southernmost and oldest national forest east of the Mississippi River and protects the world's largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest.

The campground and recreation area sit in the shade of live oak trees overlooking Mill Dam Lake. Numerous animals make their home in the area, including alligators, turtles, deer, raccoons, black bear and many bird species.

Nearby Attractions

The Ocala National Forest is notable for its extensive off-road trail system catering to both ATV enthusiasts and Jeeps, as well as being a traditional destination for deer hunters from around Central Florida. These opportunities are available within a short drive.

This is a beautiful park with lots of level, paved parking spots for large gatherings. There are no electrical hookups for power or any showers but there are bathrooms and potable water. In warm weather you can cool off in the lake. There are plenty of picnic tables under the beautiful live oak trees along with a covered pavillion. The camp hosts this season have been awesome!

Another great meetup being held at Mill Dam. Our large group of 80 women had an awesome time. No complaints, just phrase. I'd like to thank our camp host, Kayla. She goes beyond her duties to make sure all of us are comfortable and happy. I loved how she would walk around and check on us to make sure we were all having a good time. The park is so well maintained and it's the reason why I keep booking my meetups here at Mill Dam!

We had an awesome meetup!!! I host 6 all women meetups a year and I keep coming back because the staff is amazing. Our camp host is always there when we need here and she is a huge help to us. The bathrooms are always clean and the trash is always cleared and picked up. We have no complaints and everyone loves how beautiful the park is maintained.

My group had an excellent time. There were 70 of us women, and we were all parked in our Vans, RVs, Trucks, and SUVs in the parking lot. We loved the entire park area. We utilized the beach for a beach party. We paddle boarded, and kayaked. We had campfires every night. The restrooms were clean. The entire park was clean. We were all impressed by the camp host and how helpful she was. The GM stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. We/I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We're booking again!!!

Rangers/Hosts we’re so nice and attentive. We totally enjoyed this location. The space was delightful and clean. We were concerned about our new campers camping without electricity, showers and far from the bathrooms. We would like to book Mill Dam again on the same weekend next year from Thursday to Monday. When can we block this out.

Overall we had a great time, bathrooms were poorly maintained before we got there though... spiders and spider webs everywhere. Love the atmosphere and the fire pit was really nice at night.

The site was more than we could have hoped for with a lot more room than expected. The entire area was clean with fresh garbage bags in every trash can and the bathrooms/changing rooms were spotless. The beach was beautiful and well taken care of. The covered pavilion was helpful as our group, only about 20, cooked and ate together the whole weekend. The site was easy to find and the nearby town and Winn-Dixie was very convenient. If you like to shoot, the free gun range is a short drive away which was a big plus for our group. We can't wait to book again next fall/winter. Absolutely no complaints from anyone.

Mill Dam Group Campground was one of the best campsites that I have ever taken my Boy Scout Troop. The facilities are excellent, clean, and well cared for. The campsite is picturesque. Also, it was nice being able to lock the gate behind you, knowing you were not going to disturb any other guest, nor be disturbed. We are already planning our next trip.

Beautiful location and very well kept with a friendly host. The only thing that gave us trouble was the gate. It wasn't clear that the gate had a padlock that is not visible from the approaching side and it says "road closed." It looked like it was a staff only entrance so I thought Google maps had gotten me lost and drove around looking for a typical campground entrance gate or a sign for the campground for 30 minutes. Remember also there are not showers and no warm water.

nice beach and lake the kids from our group enjoyed. beyond the lake and activities on or around the lake, there were limited activities to do otherwise. there are no real hiking trails leading away from the campground, no biking trails. the grounds are nice. the picnic tables were rather spaced out and not quite adequate for our group of 80 youth and families. while there are lights in the parking lot and in the bathroom, there is no sockets or other electrical outlets for visitors to use.
