Cathedral Rock Picnic Area
Overview
Cathedral Rock Group Picnic Area is located at the top of beautiful Kyle Canyon in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 30 miles from Las Vegas. Visitors enjoy hiking, horseback riding and scenic driving in this forested desert oasis.Recreation
No trails can be accessed through the Picnic Area at the present time. Trails may be found at the Forest Service Trailhead on the other end of Cathedral Rock Picnic Area. The new Spring Mountain Visitor Center is a 15 minute drive down the canyon, with guided hikes and educational programs.Facilities
The picnic area is for day-use only. Two group sites are available, both with large picnic tables, serving tables, grills and cement site pads. Parking areas are paved. Vault toilets, drinking water, trash collection are provided.Natural Features
The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is a beautiful island in the desert, brimming with breathtaking scenery and diverse flora and fauna. The Bristlecone pine, the world's oldest organism, and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly are both found within the Spring Mountains.Over 100 springs create the namesake for the mountain range, creating the perfect place to escape the heat of the city.
The picnic area is set among a forest of ponderosa pine, white fir, aspen, mountain mahogany and Gambel oak, which provides partial shade. The area affords views of the surrounding Spring Mountains.
Nearby Attractions
More than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area; two trails allow mountain biking. Rock climbing, picnicking and scenic driving are popular activities.Directions
From Las Vegas, Nevada, take Highway 95 north to junction with Highway
157/Kyle Canyon. Turn left and travel approximately 21 miles to the picnic
area at the end of the highway.

Great time celebrating the beauty of God’s handiwork! When we arrived the restrooms were clean but there was another group in the picnic area next to ours and I think they destroyed that bathroom! Other than that we have no complaints

The location was clean and beautiful. We were given a couple trash bags, but we had brought our own as well. The host wasn't the friendliest, but okay. We had a issue with the amount of parking for the area, He charged some of our guest a fee to get in after the 1st 12 cars had come through, even though we had some guest leave and we had parking available. He said he was going to keep count even though we told him when we were checking in that some guest would be leaving early. That's a flaw in his system. He gave us no way to contact him.

The facility was nice and clean. However the website says it’s still 6 pm
The park staff came by at 4 pm and said we had 1 hour to clean up and be out.
Not sure if they were trying to go home early or the website info is wrong. But our group was not thrilled to leave earlier than expected.
We had to move the birthday party back to a park in Vegas to finish up.

Very nice area for large group. The grills were much larger than expected. Clean restrooms. I do suggest if you plan on going on a sunny day that you bring something to provide shade as there wasn’t much shade over the benches.

We had a blast! Weather was great! View was great! (We did reserve both adjacent areas, the Cliff Group and the Canyon Group, so we'd have some "privacy.") We enjoyed the short walk up to the Fossil Discovery Area and meandering around all the little trails connecting the various picnic benches (no one was there at all). We appreciated the reserved signs that made it clear that no one not connected with the reservation was allowed to drive in there -- but still there were 2 rude cars that ignored the very obvious signs (incredible!), but they did turn around and leave. Thanks to the picnic host for setting everything up and coming around to check on the restroom condition, etc.

The campground caretakers we’re excellent and very helpful. They made our groups experience and day much more enjoyable.

We had an excellent experience with the place and during the reservation. Marian was very helpful and very accommodating. Before our event, we wanted to go see and check the place so that we can prepare more on our few decorations and set up. They were very nice to let us in and check the place out.
Everything went smoothly during the event. And they were also making sure the place was okay, they would do their rounds to the place. This area is actually good and nice for some mini gatherings outdoors :)

Great picnic area in a great location on the cliff, very well maintained, and very very friendly staff. The grill is new and the spot has close access to restrooms. We spent a great time with friends and family at this spot.

We absolutely love the site. We will be planning our next summer outing for there again. But, will probably take both sites as we have expanded our team.
