Fletcher View

Overview

Fletcher View Campground is set in the beautiful Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 24 miles from Las Vegas. Visitors enjoy hiking, horseback riding and scenic driving in this forested desert oasis.

Recreation

There is paved nature trail.

Facilities

This recently updated campground is open year-round and contains several single and double-family sites, all of which have electric hookups, tables, campfire rings and grills. Drinking water is provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved. Due to this campground being located in a flood plain, during the monsoon season (mid-July to mid-Sept.) reservations may be cancelled and the campground temporarily closed. During this time, overnight stays are available only as weather permits.

Natural Features

The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is a beautiful island in the desert, brimming with breathtaking scenery and diverse flora and fauna. The Bristlecone pine, the world's oldest organism, and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly are both found within the Spring Mountains.

More than 100 springs create the namesake for the mountain range. It's the perfect place to escape the heat of the city.

The campground is set in an open forest of ponderosa pine, mountain mahogany and Gambel oak, paralleling a seasonal stream and the highway. Most sites have views of the surrounding towering canyon walls.

Nearby Attractions

More than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area; two trails allow mountain biking. Rock climbing, picnicking and scenic driving are popular activities.

Camp site features

Across 11 camp sites:

  • Electric hookups: all 11 sites
  • Picnic table: all 11 sites
  • Pets allowed: all 11 sites
  • Longest rig: 40 ft
  • Largest party: 16 people
  • Power up to 30 amps
  • Equipment: RV, Tent, Trailer

Directions

From Las Vegas, Nevada, travel north on Highway 95 to the junction with Highway 157/Kyle Canyon. Turn left and travel approximately 18 miles; campground is on the left side of the highway.

Stay Limit

Check in from 2 PM, check out by 12 PM.

Fletcher View is a very nice small campground. Our stay was peaceful and quiet, due to the size of the campground. The campground hosts are the nicest people you could ever meet. Our site was shaded and roomy, even though it was a double site. I would recommend this place anytime.

Although the website had a accessible graphic for this campsite, it was not wheelchair accessible. There were several steps to get from the car park to the tent set-up. Luckily, my husband was able to power himself up the steep dirt to the tent area. Bathrooms were accessible. Camp site was clean and pretty. The website needs to be updated so only the plots without stairs (there were a couple) are marked as accessible.

We tent camped at site #7. It was a cozy spot with a nice view, especially in the morning when the sunrise illuminates the rocky mountains. The camp host was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were very clean, well stocked, and pleasant. Since there are so few spots, there is not much vehicle or foot traffic. Although, there is a bit of noise pollution coming off the main road, which is visible from the site (and from most of them, I think). I suppose it's a trade off for the electricity, water, cell service, and clean bathrooms. Hilltop has better, more expansive views and is more secluded. Fletcher has amenities and much nicer bathrooms. Many people camping around us brought dogs that were yappy/barky and reacted to every dog nearby and that walked passed. I get it, dogs are family and deserve a camping trip, but they can quickly become a nuisance to others camping in such close proximity. Sites #7, #8, and #9 are visible to each other, so any dogs at these sites will be aware of each other. When we were there, sites #8 and #9 had dogs barking back and forth, echoing off the canyon walls. Consider this my friendly public service announcement to dog owners. The camp host keeps the access road to the campground coned off, which is nice to keep traffic down, but I don't know how easy it is to get in for FF sites with this arrangement. We reserved ahead of time, but I'm curious how early you are allowed to arrive to scope the FF sites. With so few sites (5 FF), I imagine it's quite a crapshoot.

This place is beautiful, peaceful, and spaces are pretty private. Nice concrete pads and fire pits. Clean bathrooms. I only wish they had showers, they could easily add at least one to the building where the bathroom is. Would stay again.

What a great little campground offering nice level paved sites with tall pines and lots of brush adding privacy. A quiet place, and though next to main highway the traffic volume wasn't bad. And what a gem to be in such a wooded area, beneath the high mountain peaks, yet only about a half hour from Las Vegas where we could do laundry and get groceries! Also good phone and internet reception!

We scheduled our trip for NYE after we were there for Halloween. Only to get rained on continuously throughout our stay. The elements of nature are undefeated! We got a story out of it and we'll come back in April when the weather is a little nicer.

I can imagine this being a good site during the summer because of the shade. After snow and ice...it was a bit cold for camping. The picnic table had to be scraped from the ice and snow. Also, the fire ring was full of ice and snow. Perhaps not the best for winter season tent camping.

Overall, the experience was very pleasant and the place itself is very welcoming. Mount Charleston is always a beautiful and relaxing destination to spend a few days in an RV. The only small drawback was our interaction with the gentleman at the entrance (I don’t recall his name), who seemed a bit less approachable than expected. Aside from that, everything else during our stay was enjoyable and we truly appreciated the environment.

We made it just as it started to snow. We received much more snow than we expected. The camp hosts were amazing! Very friendly and helpful. They worked so hard keeping the road plowed and even our site so we were able to get out when needed. The hosts checked in with us during our stay. The bathroom were some of the cleanest I’ve seen at campgrounds. The campground was spotless and free of any trash.

What made our trip better was the campground host. I'm terrible at back into any space and he helped me without any issues. Also gave us an education about the surrounding area and gave us a map of all the trails. Great place to camp! Restrooms are clean which was a big plus!

1. Check-In Upon arrival, we found our access blocked by an employee named Bob, who placed a traffic cone in front of the entrance. When I informed him that I held a reservation, he appeared skeptical and called to Liz to verify that my name was on the list. Once confirmed, Bob informed me that the power had been out all day and, consequently, campfires were prohibited. Neither I nor my party had received any prior notice of this restriction. When I expressed concern, Liz stated that she had assumed I would learn of the outage from local news broadcasts. I'd checked the website and there was no notice. 2. Inadequate Notification of Power Status  Although Bob subsequently advised that power had been restored “for now,” he could not specify how long it would remain on, nor how we would be alerted should it fail again—simply remarking, “Oh, you’ll know.” As many guests are employed during daylight hours, reliance on news reports alone is neither practical nor sufficient.  3. Nighttime Construction and Disruption  Bob and Liz then informed me that construction crews and power trucks would be operating “near” our campsite. They did not define “near” nor indicate a timeframe. In fact, the vehicles were parked immediately adjacent to our site, and the crews worked throughout the night, shining headlights directly into our tent and generating continuous noise. After approximately two hours of attempting to rest and shouting above the equipment, we vacated the site—despite having paid nearly $80 for that night’s stay.  4. Post-Departure Response  When we discussed these issues with Bob, he stated he was a third party with no authority to issue refunds or otherwise assist.
