Mahogany Grove

We liked the fact that it is a small camping area so it was quiet. There is no running water, but we knew that so it wasn't a problem. Tent pads are installed & that was very nice because we didn't have to worry about raking the site before pitching our tents.

Site was wonderful (with the exception of being a little close to the road) and bathrooms were some of the cleanest I’ve seen at a campsite.

We love this campsite. It’s clean and big enough for our large family. The rangers take such great care of the facilities. Thank you for an amazing vacation from the Vegas heat!

We were a group of eight and had plenty of room for eight 4-person tents. Parking was ample and the pit toilets were clean. There was no water available, but we knew that ahead of time and brought our own. Campground was close to the North Loop and Wildhorse Canyon trailheads, which was very convenient this is the third time I have stayed here and all the sites are great. The park ranger who came by was very friendly.

Among the best group campsites in the entire Las Vegas area--especially if you are trying to escape the summer heat.

This is a great group campsites. It has lots of room, plenty of picnic tables, and a beautiful 360 view of the mountains, trees, and the desert. Only complaint is that there is NO WATER ON SITE.

Nestled in a stunning location with sweeping views, Mahogany Grove Campground is the perfect spot for groups. Each site boasts spacious, level ground—enough room for at least large tents six tents—alongside generous picnic tables, a large fire ring, and several charcoal grills. Conveniently located near the restroom facilities, the only thing you’ll need to bring is your own water, as there’s no on-site supply. Overall, it’s a fantastic, well-appointed group campsite that’s hard to beat.

Peaceful and relaxing as always, one of my favorite places to camp . Never want to leave when we have to , to enjoyable. Can’t wait till our next trip.

This is a great group site. Plenty of parking, graded tent sites and tables. The only challenge is there is no running water or flushing toilets. Be sure to bring plenty of water :)

Bathrooms were disgusting the camp site had a lot of trash around the area which is not normal as we’ve stayed here numerous times to which this has never occurred. Bring extra trash bags to pick up prior to starting camp.

We loved this camp site! 10/10. The area was spacious and the kitchen area was HUGE! The bathrooms were also close by. Such a beautiful view and the hikes nearby are fun

Wow! What an experience. As the valley sweltered, we enjoyed cool breezes and even a thunderstorm and overnight rain. We felt safe an secure when the park rangers came by to check on us. What a great place to get away without having to travel too far and enjoy nature. I’m planning another trip back to “the Grove next month.!

This is my second time at Mahogany Grove campsite. I love the site and it’s a great price for the size and the beautiful view. The only problem I had was that there was a lock on the water spout.

was a very private camping and the park rangers were very helpful. Area was clean and well kept.

First, the campground was excellent. plenty of room, lots of tables, and fire pit very safely placed in reference to the tent pads. We will be going again, for sure. I rated it three starts because we have four different groups of people try and set up on our site. these sites have more than one tent pad and are intended for groups.... we booked the site two months ago and paid for the entire site. i had to ask the ranger to ask them to leave, and (if what the people said was true), the ranger told them that i asked them to leave. if that is true, it shouldn't happen like that. even if it isn't true, it shouldn't happen that way. the rangers should be going around every day and asking for the reservation numbers -- if the site is booked (and is reservation only), there is no reason that i should have to ask as a paying customer. the ranger was present and did several circles, so the fact that i had to ask was slightly disappointing.

We reserved camp loop CCC for the weekend with our scout troop for what’s supposed to be up to 40 people. It was only 6 camp pads for tents for which isn’t listed in the description when we reserved it. The bathrooms didn’t keep toilet paper and then fence ends to where my 5 year old walked around it and down the mountain/cliff. If I could get a refund, I’d like it. I paid $168 per night for two nights which is absolutely ridiculous. We went in October and had a much different experience than this time around.

I found it frustrating this website does not tell you how many tent pads and parking spots there are for each site, so here you go: McNutt - 7 tent pads and 6 parking spots, plus one handicap spot (my favorite) CCC - 6 tent pads and 8 parking spots, plus one handicap spot Smith - 6 tent pads and 9 parking spots, plus one handicap spot Young - 7 tent pads and parking spots, plus one handicap spot (best views) FDR - 7 tent pads and 10 parking spots, plus one handicap spot Scrugham - 7 tent pads and 9 parking spots The tent pads are 12ft x 12ft. One of my favorite places to go camping. The site is at 8,300 ft, so the air is a little thin and the temps are 20-25 degrees cooler than Las Vegas. Make sure to secure your food at night because there are a couple of foxes who aren't afraid to help themselves. We secured our food, but they still managed to chow down on some spilled dog kibble 20 feet away from where we were sitting by the fire. Speaking of fire, to find the current fire restrictions, I went here https://www.nevadafireinfo.org/restrictions-and-closures and click on "Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest- NEVADA Fire Restrictions" Also, the rangers like to keep the front gate closed with a "Road Closed" sign. Just push it open, and the rangers ask you to close the gate behind you.

Great campground honestly. My small group were refugees from the California fires and came to enjoy climbing in the area. Very well kept campground with nice views of the desert floor. The rangers were great too. Will be back

Very clean, well developed, great facilities, simply beautiful

The camping site itself is fine. There is plenty of space for multiple tents, lots of concrete picnic tables, charcoal grills and a fire ring (although there were fire restrictions when we camped). You have great views and lots of hiking nearby. It's a great site for big families and groups who want to spend some time outdoors. That's about where the good stuff ends. There is no onsite camp host or even a ranger/park employee who stops by to monitor the site. My group of friends was looking for a peaceful night in the mountains to get out of the 100+ degree heat in Vegas & this was probably the least peaceful camping experience I've ever had. There was a huge obnoxious family at the site next to us who partied until around 4:00 a.m. & then proceeded to drunkenly fight with each other until 5:30 a.m. Every other group camping got no sleep at all and was kept awake until daybreak. I'm all for having a great time & celebrating with family but there should have been a camp host there. There was nothing we could do to ask this family to calm down - they were getting violent with each other so that made us afraid to approach them to ask if they would calm down. There was also a fire restriction in effect & all of the fire rings were roped off. This didn't stop another group who started a huge bonfire even though the wind was strong that night. My group talked about leaving because we were worried they were going to start a forest fire. Again, if there was a camp host or even just a ranger periodically passing through to make sure everything was fine, both of these incidents could have been prevented and everyone could have had a nice time. Lastly, the toilets are absolutely terrifying. No one likes camp toilets but these - disgusting. There are flies everywhere inside the bathrooms. The toilets looked like they hadn't been emptied in weeks.

Beautiful spot to spend the night.

The campground itself was fine. My only complaint would be that there is no onsite campground host, so random people just post up and camp without a reservation. When I showed up for my reservation, there were people camped out. I had to tell them to leave.

The best... and so close.

Campsites were clean, secluded from the other campsites and well maintained. Would def go here again. Parking was limited to 10 cars per site and some campers tried taking our parking spots, but otherwise a real nice camp!

It is wonderful to be in the mountains above Las Vegas and to enjoy to cool mountain air. The group campground has nice sand-filled tent pads and good concrete picnic tables and a fire ring. It can be a challenge to reserve a site far enough ahead in time, but not as difficult as many national parks. The big down side is that the pit toilets are some of the worst we have been to for two years in a row. There were thousands of flies. They fly in and out of the toilet and bump into you. It is disgusting. You can smell the toilets from over 100 feet away, and further depending on which way the breeze is blowing. Aaah, the smell of camp food... and toilets. Unless we hear that they have improved the toilets, we will probably travel a little further for our summer camping in mountains in southern Utah, California, or Arizona. In my opinion, the Mt. Charleston area over all is being used at a rate that maintenance and forest service employees cannot keep up. Trails are getting eroded, parking lots are often full, snow sledding is difficult to access, and facilitates such as toilets are not in great condition. I have heard others suggest making Lee and Kyle canyons a fee area, and this may help increase payment for maintenance, but the population and growth of Las Vegas combined with the fact that this is the only cool mountain area within 1 hour of just about any part of Las Vegas Valley, may mean other measures will be needed to avoid having the area feel too overrun.
