Mcwilliams

Overview

McWilliams Campground is located in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 50 miles from downtown Las Vegas. Visitors enjoy hiking, mountain biking and scenic driving in this forested desert oasis.

Recreation

Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities on the 6.2-mile Bristlecone Trail. Upper and lower trailheads are located just above and below the campground. The 1.3-mile Sawmill Trail begins about four miles below the campground just off State Route 156.

Facilities

This campground contains several single and double-family sites with picnic tables, grills and campfire rings. Flush toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved.

Natural Features

The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is a beautiful island in the desert, brimming with breathtaking scenery and diverse flora and fauna. The Bristlecone pine, the world's oldest organism, and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly are both found within the Spring Mountains.

More than 100 springs create the namesake for the mountain range, making it an ideal place to escape the heat of the city.

The campground is situated in a scenic Ponderosa and white pine forest, which offers partial shade. The area affords breathtaking views of the surrounding Spring Mountains.

Nearby Attractions

More than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area. Rock climbing, picnicking and scenic driving are popular activities.

The Spring Mountains Visitor Center in Kyle Canyon offers guided hikes and educational and evening programs. Interpretive displays provide information on local plants, animals and history.

Great spot close to restroom and water supply. One down side is smoke and fire pit dust does come down from upper campsite.

This is the perfect place to camp with family. We have a little 5 year old who was so excited to go camping for the first time and she had a blast! We all did! Everything and everyone was so nice. Love it! We are coming back soon!

Nice campground. Clean and quiet with sufficient amenities. One complaint, there was a female ranger or attendant who just stared at us with the unfriendliest look. She stood at the edge of our campsite and just looked at us for a long time. I waved, and she did nothing but continue to stare. There was no one camped next to us or behind us. It was quite obvious she did not approve of us being there. We were quiet and just lounging near the fire pit, no fire was burning. She made my youngest son very uncomfortable. We’ll try another campsite next time.

Very nice campground. Restrooms are well-kept! You definitely need to reserve well in advance if you have a specific date or campsite in mind. Love that you can build a fire, there is a picnic table at each site, and there are plenty of trees to help with shade.

Okay, the campsite is great and well equipped but : 1. The restroom are really basic and every evening, they ran out of toilet paper. 2. Going from the bottom of the camp to the campsite is a real hike with high D+. Trust me, don’t buy 2 bags of woods and walk back to your campsite ;) 3. Generators all day long…

We stayed at McWilliams just prior to the 4th of July weekend and the campground was full. The host/staff did a great job keeping the restrooms clean and stocked. In spite of the crowd, it was usually quite and peaceful. We had a wonderful stay and rate McWilliams as one of the best with spacious sites and great views. Remarkable given its close proximity to Las Vegas.

You site is wonderful and beautiful, Everything is clean and easy to navigate. A big suggestion is to mark the location of your bathrooms on the map on your website. For us older folks that is very importiant to know so we can reserve a site close. We left a day early because the wind was just too much to take with all our tents blown over and such but thats not your fault

We had a peaceful and relaxing time during our stay and the view was amazing! The staffs are friendly and informative, the restroom and campsite are well maintained. We love visiting McWilliams and would recommend others as well. Although it's summer, come prepared with something to keep you warm. It gets a little chilly at night time.

Restrooms need to be cleaned more frequently. Of the two that I attempted to use, one was completely out of toilet paper at 9:00 in the morning. Another was disgusting with toilet paper thrown around.

A great get away from the big city. The campsite is massive and well kept. The spots are not on top of each other. The camp host was great to talk to about the camp. Overall a nice place to camp at. The only thing that annoyed us was an RV ran his generator all night when they should have turned it off at 10 pm.

it is a clean and peaceful place to camp at. tall trees around you that provide lots of shade. Flush toilet, dump station nearby. My 71 spot has no fresh water and charge station. I do see some of spots has fresh water foset though. You can drive next to the camp side. 100% satisfaction for this camping ground, 99% for 71 spot(near road/round about, can hear car flash pass by). will come back.

Our experience left us wanting to come back in the spring! The restrooms were clean, and the campsite was pretty clean overall. If I had a complaint, it would probably be about the rib bones that were left by the previous campers at our site. They were dumped right in the middle of the walkway to the tent along with some charcoal briquettes. Not a huge issue, but one of our friend’s dogs found one of the bones and then kept coming back to see if he could find more. Other than that, our camping experience was fantastic, and we will be back!

Generators at 3am and starting up at 5am would not a good experience. Having to listen to music all night. Inconsiderate campers would be reasons I don't come back.
