Site 3 had no shade, it was miserable. The people at site 4 took over the day use area and were with the campers at site 5 that had a dog roaming without a leash that came at my dog that was leashed at my campsite. Due to this dog being unleashed, I was unable to enjoy the public day use area. I left a day early and was only reimbursement for the night I didn't stay when the whole trip, outside of paddleboarding, was awful. There's no cell service so you can't get ahold of anyone about the issues and there's no one on site to report it to, so it felt unsafe to address it with those at site 4 and 5.

The camp host was very accommodating in allowing us to switch our campsites to a first come first serve rather than have to move two or three times in order stay in one site for the entire visit we had planned

Although we have been fortunate over the years to find a campsite at Cooper's Gulch when it was first come first serve, I like the reservation system. Even though we are almost local (1.5hr), it is nice to have multiple friends join us for the experience, and not "hope" the camps are occupied. Kayaking is a pleasure, the birds & wildlife are abundant. It would be nice if Campsite 4 was cleared to the water for a nice view like the rest. The little town of Lewiston is a step back in time. The lunch at the hotel was excellent. Prior stays we were pleased with the BBQ place above town. Weaverville is worth the drive.

The was no water at Cooper's Gulch when I was there. But, the fee was the same. Shame on you.
Site 4 is still labeled as a double site and it should not. It's a single site. Finally since the locals know the camp host never comes around I saw a couple from Hayfork stay 3 nights without paying. Two other couples also stayed without paying. I was at Cooper's Gulch 5 days and 4 nights. I saw the host once. He collected fees from the iron ranger but never came through the campground. Overall, I give the host a D.
Even with an absentee camp host an no water Cooper's Gulch is still a beautiful campground.

We had a great time until a group of 30 people, who weren't camping, took over the picnic benches and whole area to get into the water. I feel like that area shouldn't be open to the public, but only to the people who are paying to camp. One of the reasons we chose this campsite was because there are only 5 sites and it sounded very secluded.
Otherwise it's a great spot and we really enjoyed it! Looking forward to our next visit!
