2.6 mile OHV Road 4S21 runs from State Highway 243 to the junction with San

These six remote camping sites offer isolated scenic locations ideal for tent
and car camping or a relaxing picnic far from the crowds. Some have great
views of San Jacinto Mountain and the San Gorgonio Pass area.  
  
These sites are first-come, first-served and are generally open in the late
spring, summer, and fall months. During winter, Black Mountain Road closes due
to snow accumulation, but it is still possible to hike, snowshoe or cross-
country ski to these sites.  
  
Other than a pit for campfires and a picnic table, these sites do NOT contain
the amenities found at developed campgrounds. There is no water, no restrooms,
and no trash containers. Please pack it in - pack it out!  
  
Campfire permits are required for any type of fire use - campfires, charcoal
BBQ`s, or gas stoves. Campfires and charcoal BBQ's may not be allowed certain
times of the year. See "Current Conditions" box below.  
  
Where are the Sites? These Yellow Post Sites are reached via forest road 4S01
off of Hwy 243 north of Idyllwild and south of Banning. This is a dirt road
and is not suitable for trailers or RV's. High-clearance vehicles are
recommended.

Boulder Basin Campground offers solitude and primitive camping in a scenic
mountain landscape. The area provides ample recreational opportunities,
including hiking, mountain biking, boulder climbing and more. Black Mountain
Road, which accesses Boulder Basin Campground, is a narrow rough dirt road
which may not be suitable for all vehicles.

## Recreation

The campground provides access to a number of trailheads, including the Black
Mountain Trail, a 3.6-mile, moderately strenuous hiking, mountain biking and
horseback riding trail that travels through the forested slopes of Black
Mountain.  
  
The trail provides excellent views of the Banning Pass and Mt. San Gorgonio.
The trail provides access to the famed Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail,
which begins at the Mexico border in Southern California and leads to
Washington border of Canada.

## Facilities

The campground offers multiple single-family campsites, available for tent and
small RV / van camping. Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings
with grills. Vault toilets are also provided.

The campground is located in a mixed conifer forest, which provides ample
shade throughout the day. It is situated at an elevation of about 7,300 feet.
Roads to the campground are not paved but the campground does have paved

forest so be sure to bring warmer clothes during the cooler months.  
  
Campfires are only allowed within the fire rings provided if current fire
restrictions allow. Firewood is not sold at the campgrounds, and trailers are
not recommended. The road is rough, so high clearance vehicles are
recommended. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.

Holders of Golden Age, Golden Access, America the Beautiful Senior or Access
Passports are entitled to 50% campsite fee reduction. Holder of the passport
must be present. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance at

strenuous climb to San Jacinto Peak, at 10,804 feet in elevation.

The campground provides one large group campsite that can accommodate up to
100 guests for tent camping. A parking area can accommodate up to 25 vehicles,
but rough roads to the site are not recommended for trailers of any kind.
