Clark Mountain Camp is located on the southern end of the Clark Mountain
Range. It is also within the Clark Mountain Area of Critical Environmental
Concern (ACEC). The site contains several picnic tables, a dual pit cooking
grill and a parking area. The Clark Mountain area has a record of aboriginal
occupation spanning a period of over 4,000 years. The area is also known for
its mining history. The rugged terrain, variety of vegetation, and degree of
color contrast contributed to Clark Mountain's rating of outstanding scenic
quality. Mule deer and desert bighorn sheep can also be found throughout the
area.

Clark Mountain Camp

The small but pristine Stateline Wilderness contains the eastern terminus of
the 15 mile long Clark Mountain Range. The limestone/dolomite mountains are
steep and rugged. Dominant vegetation includes creosote brush and bursage on
the bajadas and Mojave yucca, Joshua tree, cacti, and various mixed shrubs on
the slopes. The highest elevations contain some pinyon-juniper habitat.
Wildlife is typical for the Mojave Desert; including coyote, black-tailed
jackrabbits, ground squirrels, kangaroo rats, quail, roadrunners,
rattlesnakes, and several species of lizards. The wilderness consists of 6,963
acres.

The Ivanpah Dry Lake is considered one of the top wind sailing sites both
nationally and internationally. The International championship land sailing
racing, and land sailing high speed records by a wind powered vehicle have
both been set on Ivanpah Dry Lake. The dry lake consists of two parts, the
East dry lake bed is great for large groups, speed events, long distance
events; it can be accessed from behind the California Lottery store. The West
dry lake bed can be accessed from behind Whiskey Pete's. Due to the importance
of the dry lake bed for setting speed records its surface must remain smooth,
this is achieved by locking the gates during wet seasons. Individual use of
the dry lake bed for non-motorized sports is allowed with a permit;
commercial, organized groups, competitive events and film are required to
contact the Bureau of Land Management for a Special Recreation or Film Permit.

Mesquite Valley, and the Clark Mountain Range. Numerous small caves are found
in the porous rock of the Clark Mountains. Dominant vegetation ranges from the
creosote brush sage association on the bajadas to blackbrush, Joshua trees,
and pinyon-juniper at the higher elevations. Barrel cactus gardens are also
found in some locations. Wildlife is typical for the Mojave Desert. The
southwestern corner of the wilderness provides critical habitat for the desert
tortoise. The wilderness is in the eastern portion of the sector and consists
of 44,805 acres.

The North Mesquite Mountains Wilderness consists of the broad western end of
Sandy Valley and the northern portion of Mesquite Mountains. Rolling brown
foothills, a few steeper mountains, and medium sized buttes comprise the
reddish-brown geologic features in the wilderness. Dominant vegetation
includes creosote brush scrub, blackbush, Joshua tree woodland, yucca, cacti,
and some grasses. Wildlife is also typical for the Mojave Desert. Due to the
lack of naturalwaters, bighorn sheep do not inhabit the area on a permanent
basis but do transverse the area. The southern tip of the wilderness provides
critical habitat for the desert tortoise. The wilderness is located in the
northeastern portion of the sector and consists of 28,955 acres.
