​The Garfield Ridge Shelter is located at approximately 3,900 ft. on the
eastern shoulder of Mt. Garfield just off the Garfield Ridge Trail
(Appalachain Trail). The shelter is a 12-person 'Adirondack' style shelter.The
site also has 7 4-person tent platforms, a composting privy, bearbox and
dishwashing area. A fine spring is nearby. This site is staffed by a caretaker
during the summer months.

​Franconia Brook Tentsite is located on the Eastside trail, on the East side
of the Pemigewasset River, 3 miles in from the Lincoln Woods trailhead. There
are approximately 20 tentsites available for overnight use. The tentsites are

stake. There are two pit toilets and water is available at the nearby East
Branch. A bear box is available. When possible, please use the bear box
instead of hanging food.  Please note: the bear box does become full quickly,
so plan accordingly and bring rope as a precaution. Remove all food and trash

picnic tables. A self-service pay system collects the fees on a first come,
first serve basis.

TIPS:

* Allow no more than 8 people and 2 vehicles per site and keep all equipment (including tents, tables and motor vehicles) on the graveled area. This will minimize compaction, allow low vegetation to grow, and enhance privacy between sites.

* Build all fires in the ring provided. “Only YOU can prevent forest fires,” says Smoky Bear. This will eliminate unsightly charcoal spots that soil camping equipment and clothing.

* Observe quiet hours between 10 PM and 7 AM. Turn off audio devices during these times and play them at a reasonable volume at all other times. See the bulletin board for the rules about operating generators.

* Gather only dead and down firewood.

waste containers, and restroom facilities. The Civilian Conservation Corps
(CCC) built the picnic pavilion. A riverside setting offers one of the most
beautiful views of Mt. Moosilauke.

Off the beaten path, Russell Pond Campground is nestled into the hillside
overlooking Russell Pond, a popular boating and fishing site (due in part to
regular fish stocking by the State Fish and Game Department). The 84 campsites

This hidden gem of a campground has both RV and tent sites that accommodate a
variety of camping preferences. Water faucets are located a short walk from
the campsites. There are flush toilets and hot showers (coin-operated). You
can enjoy free interpretive nature programs at the amphitheater on summer
Saturday evenings. At the pond, you will find a boat ramp, dock and beach.

provide plenty of shade. The 40-acre spring fed Russell Pond provides many
non-motorized, water based recreation opportunities. The White Mountains are
home to many species of northern wildlife, including moose, white-tailed deer
and black bear. Almost 200 species of birds, including the rare Bicknell's
Thrush, live in the forest.

experience. This area is not a good choice for campers seeking a tranquil out
of the way spot. It is reached by taking exit 31 off Interstate 93. Travel
east on Tripoli Road two miles to the registration trailer.

6.3 miles along the Dry River Trail from Rt. 302 will bring you to one of the
more remote shelters, Dry River Shelter #3. The shelter is a 3-sided structure
that will sleep eight people with a rock fire ring in front of the shelter.
There is no toilet at this shelter. The shelter sits along the Dry River and
is approximately 2.5 miles from treeline and the Alpine zone south of the
summit of Mt. Washington.

<p>6.3 miles along the Dry River Trail from Rt. 302 will bring you to one of the more remote shelters, Dry River Shelter #3. The shelter is a 3-sided structure that will sleep eight people with a rock fire ring in front of the shelter. There is no toilet at this shelter. ​The Beaver Brook Shelter sits at 3750 ft on the northern flank of Asquam
Ridge which extends east from Mount Moosilauke. The shelter is 1.5 miles from
NH Rte 112 in Kinsman Notch just off the steep Beaver Brook Trail (Appalachian
Trail). The shelter accommodates approximately 8 people and provides a
sweeping view of the White Mountains to the north. The campsites also includes
2 platforms (total capacity of 9), and a composting privy. A side trail leads
to a small stream which may not be reliable.

beginner backpacker, or camper who can only hike in a short distance. Only 1.5
miles from the end of Sawyer River Road, and 4.5 miles from the Kancamagus Hwy
(Rt 112). Sawyer Pond Campsite has 2 toilets.
