The Warnock Trailhead is located on Summit Ridge along the western edge of the
Hells Canyon Wilderness area. This site provides access to Temperance Creek
trail #1778 which enters Hells Canyon Wilderness. The trailhead is also the
main entrance to Lord Flat and the Summit Ridge-Western Rim National
Recreation Trail.

This remote site is popular with Summer hikers, OHV riders, and in the late
Summer and Fall with big game hunters.

along the Hat Point Road. With 7 walk-in tent-only sites, visitors can enjoy a
remote campout or just picnic and look across Hells Canyon at the Seven Devils
Mountains in Idaho. The area was heavily burned with wildfires in the past so
shade and mature trees are scarce near the campground.

Freezeout Trailhead is one of the early season routes into the Hells Canyon
Recreation Area and Hells Canyon Wilderness due to the low elevation of the
saddle. This moderate sized trailhead accommodates trucks with stock trailers
and has a stock loading ramp, hitch rails, and stock water.

The Seven Devils Campground is a small rustic facility located near the Hells
Canyon Wilderness. The site is set in a cool fir and spruce forest and has 10
tent-only campsite sites. A short walk from the campground is Seven Devils
Lake which offers fishing, photography and a chance to view scenery and
wildflowers.

The Snake River Trailhead is the main northern portal for the Snake River
National Recreation Trail (#102) which provides access to the Hells Canyon
Wilderness.

This trailhead provides a large parking area located along the Snake River
with views of the canyon and grassy uplands.  The site has a toilet and a
parking for trucks with trailers.

Located nearby are Pittsburg Campground and Pittsburg Landing Boat Launch.

ALERT: Two rockslides on Bernard Creek Trail #58 above McGaffee Cabin have
left the trail unpassable for stock and unsafe for hikers.

The accessible facility has accessible campsites and toilets with paved roads
and camp spurs. Drinking water is available from April to October (pending
weather conditions). With access to the Snake River for fishing, boating,
historic intepretation, exploring and hiking within minutes of the campground,
the facility is popular throughout the year. The Deer Creek road is maintained
by the County and is steep and narrow for the last few miles after entering
into the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.

Single unit campsites = $15.00/night. A fee station is available at the
campground.  This is a year-round fee and is still charged even during the
winter months. Visitors going on the river for extended trips will need to pay
for the multiple nights they occupy a campsite.

SNAKE RIVER FIRE RESTRICTION

Pursuant to 36 CFR, Sec. 261.50(a), the following acts are prohibited on all
National Forest System Lands  
within the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, in the State of Oregon and Idaho
within a ¼ mile of the Snake  
River between Hells Canyon Dam, River Mile 247.5, downstream to the Oregon-
Washington border at Snake River Mile 176.0. This Order is effective from
06/01/2025 to 09/30/2025 and from 06/01/2026 to 09/30/2026.

**_PROHIBITIONS:_**

1\. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire
(36 CFR 261.52(a)).

**_EXEMPTIONS:_**

Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this
order:

  1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the  
performance of an official duty.

  3. Any person is exempt from prohibition 1 (above) when using a fire fueled by charcoal where the fire is  
contained in a firepan, defined as a device made of fire-resistant material or
metal, with raised edges of height sufficient to contain all residue from the
charcoal fuel and where flammable vegetation is cleared a minimum 3 feet away
from the firepan on all sides.

  4. Any person is exempt from Prohibition 1 (above) when using a fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or  
LPG fuels and flammable vegetation is cleared a minimum 3 feet away from open
flame on all sides.

  5. Any person is exempt from Prohibition 1 (above) when using a wood burning stove equipped with a  
chimney, minimum 5-foot length, spark arresting screen, consisting of ¼-inch
mesh hardware cloth, and remove all flammable vegetation within a 3-foot
radius, including overhanging material.

Any persons exempt from Prohibition 1 (above) under exemptions 3, 4, or 5 must
always attend the fire and  
completely extinguish the fire prior to leaving. People attending a fire are
required to have a tool that can serve as a shovel and one gallon of water in
their possession. The intent of this requirement is to ensure individuals have
the tools necessary to completely extinguish their fire.
