Pigeon point is a great campground, for a lot of reasons. There is easy access to the river from the camp, it's a beautiful spot, and even though it is close to highway 299 you don't get a lot of noise. There are a few downsides, no available drinking water, and the wind can whip through pigeon point with some zeal. The price for the group campsite is excellent, and it is a very comfortable place to camp with a covered meal prep and serving area. I will definitely return.

My major complaint is with recreation.gov. I reserved a group campground and when I arrived it was locked and inaccessible. There was no one around. I could not stay at the campground I paid for. I called and left messages with the National Forest site and my call was never returned. Getting a refund through recreation.gov is a joke. The actual campground is along the Trinity river. The regular sites look nice and from what I could tell, the facilities seemed clean. There are river access beaches. It is right off the road (299).Not far from Weaverville.

There is one other 1 star review mentioning the 'wind being horrendous' they are NOT exaggerating! I know camping and I know it's outside; I grew up on Hwy 36 which is the neighboring Hwy to 299... the wind is NO joke at this campsite; we ended up having to leave early it was just so bad. ALL the tents blew down, it was too dangerous for a campfire, the stuff on the tables (even heavier things) were just blowing all over the place. Also, there is NO where to swim! The toilets were clean. The picnic area for the group campsite, where we were booked, is beautiful though, so so pretty... but, there are better spots. I won't be camping here again. If you go, I hope you fair better than my group did.

sweet location right on the river. lots of picnic tables and grills under a very large awning. plenty of spots for a small tent along the fence, which overlooks the river. the bathrooms are vented in such a way that the air is pulled down into the pit toilet and vented above. NO WATER. limited cell service. perfect location for whitewater fun.

The wind was absolutely hellacious. There is no potable water anywhere at this camp. There is tremendous day use as there is no fee.
