The reason I mark this a poor experience has nothing to do with the conditions of the campground as a whole. The weather turned out to be very warm and, unfortunately, for the second time this summer, we were swarmed by yellow jackets the whole 4 days. The yellow jacket traps I brought were some help but the insects seemed desperate for water and landed in every dish or bowl and on every water bottle. They swarmed our food while we tried to eat. I got stung within the first 20 minutes and my partner was stung twice before the trip was over. We were so determined to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the majestic Ponderosas that we stuck it out and found ways to cope. We're giving it another try for the season in September but I have promised myself that if it is as challenging as this trip, I will just leave. If either of us had been allergic to yellow jacket stings, it would have been a very dangerous situation and we would have been forced to leave immediately. Truly I have never seem them so bad.

Campground is poorly laid out so that many are much too close together.

Great site! It was well-maintained and beautiful. Our spot at 45 was perfect as it was on a hill and offered additional privacy, space, and forest views. Make sure to bring your own potable and non-potable water. In addition, the bathroom were standard vault toilets with little to no toilet paper so make sure you bring your own as well. There were also a lot of nosy hover flies so I recommend bringing some sort of bug repellant or have a fire especially while cooking or handling food. We will come back!
