Phelps Creek Campground/Horse Camp
A closure impacting a number of storm damaged roads located on the Wenatchee River Ranger District. This closure includes the Chiwawa River Road. There is currently not an estimate for when these roads will reopen.
Pursuant to 16 USC § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Wenatchee River Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. This Order is effective May 20, 2026, and will remain in effect through December 31, 2027, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITIONS:
- Use of vehicle on National Forest System Roads described below and displayedon the attached map, Exhibit A [36 CFR § 261.54(e)].
CLOSURE AREA DESCRIPTION:
The Weather Emergency Closure is defined as follows:
The closure on Forest System Road 6200 starts at the junction with Atkinson Flats Campground in Sec. 23, T. 29 N., R. 16 E., and continues north to Trinity on Sec. 27, T. 30 N., R. 16 E. The closure on Forest System Road 6700 starts at the junction with FSR 6701 in Sec. 10, T. 27 N., R. 15 E., and continues up to the junction with the Pacific Crest Trail in Sec. 25, T. 27 N., R. 14 E. Forest System Road 6701 is closed from the junction with Forest System Road 6700 in Sec. 10, T. 27 N., R. 15 E., and continues through the junction with 6701-400 and ending at Top Lake Trailhead in Sec. 36, T. 28 N., R. 14 E. Forest System Road 6701-500 starts at the junction with Forest System Road 6701 Sec. 36, T. 28 N., R. 14 E and continues to the end. Forest System Road FSR 6702 starts in Sec. 15 T. 28 N., R. 15 E and continues to the end and include Forest System Road 6702-300. Forest System Road 6704 starts at the junction with Forest System Road 6700 in Sec. 24 T. 27 N., R. 14 E and continues to the end. Forest System Road 6705 starts in Sec. 25 T. 27 N., R. 14 E and continues to the end. Forest System Road 7100 is closed from the gate at Sec. 6, T. 22 N., R. 19 E., and continues up the road to the junction with Devil’s Gulch Trailhead in Sec. 18, T. 28 N., R. 19 E. The
closure on Forest System Road 7322 starts at the junction with Old Blewett Pass Hwy in Sec. 13, T. 22 N., R. 17 E., and continues west to the junction with County Line Trail # 1226 in Sec. 21, T. 22 N., R. 17 E. and includes the spur roads Forest System Road 7322-200, 7322-230 Forest System Road7322-232 Forest System Road FSR 7322-400. Forest System Road 7600 is closed starting in Sec. 1, T. 24 N., R. 15 E and continues to the end. Forest System Road 7905 is closed starting in Sec. 9 21, T. 25 N., R. 17 E and continues to the end.

EXEMPTIONS:
Pursuant to 36 CFR § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
- Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads,Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation Order), specifically exempting themfrom this Order.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for a corporation, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. (16 USC § 551; 18 USC §§ 3551, 3571, and 3581.)

Located near the confluence of Phelps Creek and the Chiwawa River, about 23 miles from Fish Lake, there are 7 tent sites and 6 equestrian sites at this campground.
