Big Piney, Wyoming**. The cabin makes an excellent destination for outdoor
enthusiasts looking to hike, mountain bike, horseback ride, snowmachine, hunt
or fish. Photographers are enchanted by the region's landscape and
opportunities for wildlife watching.  
  
  
Open year-round, the cabin provides a horse corral for equestrian campers and
allows pets as well. **Winter access is by snowmobile, snowshoes or cross-
country skis on a 10-mile trail.**

## Recreation

The Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail can be accessed nearby within the
basin, offering exciting hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding
opportunities. Nearby streams provide trout fishing.  
  
In winter months, nearly 100 miles of snowmobile trails are open for
exploring. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are other popular cold weather
activities.

## Facilities

The rustic log cabin sleeps four people and has propane heat and propane
lights. Propane will be shut off at the cabin upon arrival. **Guests will need
to turn the propane on upon arrival. The cutoff valve is located on the SW
corner (Fridge corner) on the outside of the cabin. Please turn propane off at
the cabin upon departure.** A wood burning stove was installed in 2018 to help
with the heat. A vault toilet is located outside next to the building. Two
bunk beds with mattresses are provided, as well as two dressers, a cabinet,
and two chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a propane cook stove, a variety
of cookware and utensils, a table with four chairs, a refrigerator and a sink.
No electricity is available, guests must bring their own supply of water for
drinking, cooking and cleaning. Recommended items to bring include food,

Mice, bats, birds, spiders and other small rodents and insect do live in the
wild and mountain areas. Be prepared to have them in and around the cabin

can accommodate up to 25 guests and is most appropriate for groups camping in
tents. Two vehicles can be parked at the site (van-sized vehicles are the
largest the site will accommodate) and six additional vehicles can be parked
at the adjacent Cottonwood Lake Day Use Area.

Cottonwood Group Campsite is located near the scenic Cottonwood Lake below
Salt River Pass in the forest of western Wyoming.

## Recreation

The lake offers great canoeing and boating for smaller craft and fishing for
brook and cutthroat trout. Hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails
are in the area, as well as a motorized route for trail vehicles <50". The
west loop of the campground includes horse corrals. The east side, where the
group site is located, includes the motorized trail head, so trail vehicles
are allowed passage.

## Facilities

This group campsite can accommodate up to 25 guests and is most appropriate
for groups camping in tents. Two vehicles can be parked at the site (van-sized
vehicles are the largest the site will accommodate) and six additional
vehicles can be parked at the adjacent Cottonwood Lake Day Use Area. Single-
family sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  
  
Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.

## Natural Features

Peaceful North Fork Creek flows through the campground. Its banks and the
surrounding canyon are forested by dense stands of pines and aspens, which
offer excellent shade and privacy. Vibrant summer wildflowers are abundant.

Cottonwood Group Campsite

The Cottonwood Lake Campground is located next to Cottonwood Lake in the Salt
River Mountains at an elevation of 7,000 feet, approximately 13 miles
southeast of Afton, Wyoming. North Fork Creek runs near this site where pines
and aspens offer partial shade. The lake offers great boating for smaller
craft (there is no ramp available) and fishing for brook and cutthroat trout.
Trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and ATVs begin within the site.

This campground offers 18 campsites total. On the west loop, 6 sites have
hitching rails for horses, and three small pipe-rail horse corrals are
provided. Water must be carried to corrals. On the east loop, ATVs are allowed
because a trail allowing motorized use takes off from the back of the loop,
and 3 walk-in sites are also available for tent campers. Except for site 13,
these sites are all single-family campsites which are available on a first
come, first served basis. Site 13 is a reservable group tenting site--see
recreation.gov. Potable water is available in the east loop, as well as vault
toilets. The stay limit at this campground is 14-days.

Hobble Creek Campground. Lake Alice provides beautiful views, fishing and a
variety of hiking and horseback opportunities to visitors. Visitors are
strongly encouraged to practice clean camping techniques and to store
attractants (e.g. food, toothpaste) in a manner that makes them unavailable to
bears.

Forest Park Campground is located 34 miles from the north end of the Greys
River Road, shaded under tall pines. 13 campsites share a hand pump; vault
toilets are available at both ends of the large loop. Sites accommodate
trailers up to 30 feet long. Many nearby trails and forest roads are available
for exploration, including a number of roads well suited for side-by-side
trail vehicles. Free Motor Vehicle Use Maps help visitors know more about
those opportunities. They are are available at Forest Service Offices or for
download from our website. This web page also includes info about a free map
app for smartphones. The stay limit is 14 days at this campground.

The Hobble Creek Campground is a beautiful and remote campsite on the Kemmerer
Ranger District. The Hobble Creek Campground is located at the trailhead to
Lake Alice and offers 18 campsites, toilet, trash and potable water in the
summer on fish-filled Hobble Creek. Corrals are available for stock. Lake
Alice, is a short 1.5 mile hike east from the campground. Trailers longer than
30 feet are not recomended. The Hobble Creek Campground is also located close
to the Hobble Creek Trailhead where visitors and continue along Hobble Creek
and eventually connect in to the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail.
