Holy Ground Battlefield Park is a beautiful day-use park located in Lowndes
County, Alabama. The group shelters are available to be rented with a per day
fee. Come and enjoy all that Holy Ground has to offer. From bank fishing or
hiking, to swimming and picnicing at the beach area, this park has a little
something for the whole family to enjoy. Restrooms and shower house on site.

## Overview

Prairie Creek Campground is situated beneath moss-draped oaks on the banks of
Woodruff Lake. The lake is part of the scenic Alabama River in the region's
Black Prairie Belt.  
  
For sportsmen, the campground offers a wonderful opportunity to relax between
fishing and hunting trips. Water sports and hiking are also popular
activities.

## Recreation

Woodruff Lake offers excellent fishing for bass, crappie, bluegill and
catfish.  
  
Boating, jet skiing and other water sports are big draws to the lake, and a
boat ramp is provided for easy water access.  
  
The Lowndes Wildlife Management area, located nearby, covers 12,500 acres and
provides prime hunting for whitetail deer, wild turkey, hogs and a variety of
small game and waterfowl.

## Facilities

This waterfront campground offers 55 family RV sites and seven tent-only
sites, all with electric hookups.  
  
  
  
Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station and
laundry facilities.  
  
  
  
A boat ramp, dock, playground, basketball court and picnic shelter make the
campground ideal for families.

rolling grasslands and dense hardwood and pine forests.

Gunter Hill Campground offers a peaceful scene of trees and nature on the
backwaters of the Alabama River.  
  
The fishing is excellent, providing challenges for the master angler as well
as the occasional cane pole fisherman. Boating, hunting and hiking are popular
activities.

The area's waterways offer excellent fishing for crappie, bass and catfish. A
boat ramp is provided for easy river access.  
  
The Lowndes Wildlife Management area, located nearby, covers 12,500 acres and
offers prime hunting for whitetail deer, wild turkeys and hogs, and a variety
of small game and waterfowl.  
  
The campground provides a basketball court and playground, offering additional
recreation opportunities for visitors.

are newly renovated sites and have concrete pads and sewer. Amenities include

Claiborne Lake is the most primitive of the Alabama River Lakes. Nestled in
Alabama's southwest hill country, the lake encompasses over 60 miles of the
Alabama River, stretching from the Claiborne Lock and Dam to Millers Ferry
Lock and Dam. Claiborne Lock and Dam was completed in 1971 but was opened for
navigation in November 1969. It has no power installation. Although the lake
remains mostly within the original river banks, Claiborne provides extensive
opportunities for water-related recreation.  
Bisecting Alabama's Black Prairie Belt, the William "Bill" Dannelly Reservoir
encompasses 105 miles of the Alabama River. Dannelly Reservoir boasts an area
of about 27 square miles and a shoreline of more than 500 miles. Since opening
in 1974, the lake and its surrounding parks have become a recreational center,
offering excellent fishing, skiing, boating and hunting. With its great appeal
to sportsmen, birders, naturalists and those who just want to "get away from
it all," it's little wonder that almost 3 million people visit Dannelly each
year.  
Woodruff Lake offers such activities as fishing, boating, water-skiing,
picnicking, camping, swimming and hiking. The project features 11 parks that
are well-facilitated for visitors. Conveniences at the parks include beaches,
campgrounds, picnic areas, trails and boat launching ramps. Since construction
of the first park in 1975, annual attendance figures have soared to over 2
million.
