Colorado River between Kremmling and State Bridge. Those floating downriver
access calm flat water to Class III whitewater rapids.

The Gore Canyon Whitewater Playpark is located just above Boat Ramp #2 and
provides a manmade wave that is popular for kayakers, stand up paddle boarders
and other small watercraft. It is also an exciting splash feature for
watercraft coming downriver from Boat Ramp #1.

Hiking opportunities accessed from the Pumphouse Recreation Area provide ample
access for wade fishing and exploring along the Colorado River.

The Gore Canyon Trail is open to foot travel only providing access upriver for
1.5 miles. Keep an eye out for the historic retaining walls holding the trail
in place that early surveyors of Gore Canyon and homesteaders developed to
access this area of the river for finding a railroad route and efforts to
divert water for irrigation.

The Gore Canyon Ranch Trail is open to foot travel only and provides access
downriver for 1.25 miles connecting to the Gore Canyon Ranch Trailhead and
Parking Area. This undeveloped area was the site of a homestead ranch and was
acquired by the BLM to improve public access, restore habitat for wildlife and
provide educational opportunities on the area’s history, wildlife and
responsible recreation opportunities.

The historic Argentine Trail is open to foot travel only and is accessed from
the Gore Canyon Ranch Trail. This trail is not for the lighthearted as it has
steep drop offs from a trail that was blasted into the cliffs of Hartman
Canyon. Those floating down stream can see this trail high up the canyon wall
on river left.

Kremmling Recreation Management Area

The Colorado River headwaters begin in Rocky Mountain National Park in
northwest Colorado, about 55 miles from Kremmling. From the trickle of
snowmelt starting in the Never Summer Range to the Colorado River Delta near
the Gulf of California, the Colorado River runs about 1,450 miles. Once the
river flows past Kremmling, it drops into Gore Canyon, cutting through the
Precambrian gneiss and schist of the Gore Range. This section of river, which
drops at 68 feet per mile for three miles, is considered the most challenging
commercially-rafted stretch of river in Colorado—and possibly the United
States! Once the pounding river gushes out of Gore Canyon, the river calmly
continues its journey through Lower Gore/Hartman Canyon and Red Gorge Canyon,
past Bull Gulch Wilderness Study Area, and into Glenwood Canyon. The area
between Pumphouse and State Bridge receives heavy public use. The stretch
below State Bridge has traditionally seen far fewer boaters. In some cases,
regulations may differ between these two sections of river due to the
differences in public use.

This section of river, which drops at 68 feet per mile for three miles, is considered the most challenging commercially-rafted stretch of river in Colorado—and possibly the United States! Once the pounding river gushes out of Gore Canyon, the river calmly continues its journey through Lower Gore/Hartman Canyon and Red
Gorge Canyon, past Bull Gulch Wilderness Study Area, and into Glenwood Canyon.
The area between Pumphouse and State Bridge receives heavy public use. The
stretch below State Bridge has traditionally seen far fewer boaters. In some
cases, regulations may differ between these two sections of river due to the
differences in public use.

The Upper Colorado River Recreation Area spans a unique and beautiful
landscape, known for its diverse water features, abundant wildlife, and
cultural landscapes along the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway. There
are many notable segments of the Upper Colorado River Area, but the popular
Pumphouse Recreation Area offers camping opportunities. This area combines
calm boating waters through heritage ranchlands with more challenging rapids
in the intervening canyons.

The dam is on the western slope 13 miles southeast of Kremmling, Colorado, on
the Blue River, a tributary of the Colorado. Recreational developments include
6 campgrounds, 208 campsites, and 2 boat-launch facilities. Good access. One
swim beach. Water surface for fishing is approximately 2,125 acres. Fishing is
the primary recreational activity, followed by power boating and camping.
Primary sport fish available are brown trout, rainbow trout, and salmon.
Campgrounds closed in winter due to snow and ice.Green Mountain Dam and
Reservoir are features of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Current Reservoir
