Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge is a natural oasis with native wildlife and
plants in an urban setting. It offers beautiful views of the Rocky Mountain
Front Range with a network of trails meandering through prairie grasslands,
woodlands, and wetlands. This 72-acre Refuge is managed to restore and
preserve native prairie ecosystems, protect habitat for migratory and resident
wildlife, and provide wildlife-dependent recreation opportunities for all
ages.

Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge

This 15,000 acre site provides a Refuge for both wildlife and visitors.
Through wildlife management, species like the endangered black-footed ferret
are thriving in the wild and raising their young. The bison herd continues to
grow and graze keeping native grasses healthy and robust.

Planting and restoring native grasses and plants provide shelter, food, and
nesting materials for wildlife. As these species and others continue to thrive
so do visitors and their experiences. With 20 miles of hiking trails,
bicycling, fishing, archery, photography, and nature programs visitors can
disconnect from the busy urban world, relax in nature, and get some exercise
too!

The Refuge continues to see a steady increase in visitation as more urban
people seek opportunities to connect with nature. This Refuge is here for
wildlife, our communities, and visitors from all over the world. And best of
all, it's free to visit!

Bear Creek Dam, the last of three dams built to protect the Denver region from
floods, is located on the southwest edge of suburban Lakewood at the
confluence of Bear Creek and Turkey Creek. This project is known for its
diverse bird and waterfowl population and its striking scenic views.
Recreation opportunities include camping, horseback riding, picnicking,
hiking, boating, archery and nature study.

than 100 years. Recreational opportunities include camping, fishing,
picnicking, an archery/rifle range, a horse stable, nature and bike trails, a
marina, and a swimming area. The park is open year-round.
