Management Land within Iron and Beaver Counties, Utah. There a wide variety of

## Overview

Pyramid Ridge Campground sits at just over 6,000 feet above sea level and
looks out to a backdrop of the red rock pyramids along the Hurricane Cliffs.
This campground gives visitors a remote and backcountry feel while only being
a few minutes drive from I-15 and the amenities of town. The campground also
serves as one of the trailheads to the Iron Hills Trail System.

The site is located 3.4 miles outside of the south end of town. Temperatures
typically remain cool in the spring and late fall with low's during these
times approaching or below freezing. Summer temperatures can often bring the
high's into the range of 90-95 degrees Fahrnheit.

The Iron Hills Trail System began as just a 5 mile loop and has since emerged
into almost 30 miles of high quality mountain bike trails. While riders from
all over the country have begun to travel to Cedar City to ride these trails,
hikers, dog walkers, and nature lovers of all sorts will enjoy them as well.
No matter which one of the 14 sites you chose from, you can access the
Turnpike Trail from your campsite.

## Recreation

The Turnpike trail leads straight out of the campground and provides bikers,
hikers, trail runners, and more with access to almost 30 miles of singletrack.
Almost all of the trails in this Iron Hills Trail System have been
professionally constructed, and they have played a big role in Cedar City
emerging as a premier mountain biking destination.

## Facilities

Each campsite at Pyramid Ridge Campground has in-site parking, a large picnic
table, fire ring with optional grate for grilling, and at least one tent pad.
Select sites contain parking spots to hold a large RV/camper or multiple
vehicles and have multiple tent pads. While there is no water available at the
campground, visitors can access water and other amenities in town just a few
minutes away. The campground also serves as a trailhead which gives campers
the opportunity to access almost 30 miles of trail from their campsite. The
trailhead contains a bicycle repair station as well as the campground's
restroom.

Nestled into the base of the mountain, the Pyramid Ridge Campground gets its
name from the geologic features that tower above it. Campers will get to
experience sunrise and sunset in one of the most beautiful locations that
Cedar City, UT has to offer. Large sandstone monoliths emerge out of the
mountain in multiple locations, adding beautiful red, orange and yellow
contrast to the green pinyon-juniper forest that blankets the mountain side.

The Iron Hills Trail System is a 30-mile network of beginner, intermediate,
and advanced trails located on Bureau of Land Management land in beautiful
southwest Utah. The trails span from the “C” Overlook, and head south to
Pyramid Ridge Campground.  The trail system is known for its premier mountain
biking opportunities and is a popular destination for hikers, trail runners,
and wildlife viewers.

The Iron Hills Trail System is designated as a National Recreation Trail. You

There are several trailheads near Cedar City that provide access to the trail
system. In some cases, navigating to the trailhead will require a vehicle with
4WD.

## Facilities

Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring with grill grate, and is in close
proximity to a vault toilet. There is no drinking water or electricity hookups
in the campground, but drinking water can be found at the nearby trailheads.

Group campsites have three picnic tables, an oversized fire ring, charcoal
grills, and a pavilion.

Ancient volcanic activity has shaped the surrounding area's rocky terrain into
what it is today. Granite boulders are mixed into the patches of Pinyon and
Juniper all throughout the campground. Many sites throughout the campground
offer views of the Hurricane Cliffs range that rise above Cedar City.

onsite by donation. Two of our camping spots are wheelchair accessible. Three

Cedar Breaks National Monument charges an entrance fee separate from the
camping fee. You may pay the fee upon arrival at the Information Center (on
the south side of the national monument) or purchase in advance . The park
also honors Federal interagency passes (e.g., annual, senior, access, 4th

Tent and RV rates are $30/night. For those with an Interagency Senior Pass or
Access Pass, Tent and RV rates are $15/night.

Spring Creek Canyon Wilderness Study Area (WSA) is located in the southeastern
corner of Iron County, Utah about 7 miles southwest of Cedar City. The WSA is
4,433 acres and measures approximately 6 miles from north to south and 3 miles
from east to west. Private and state land surrounds most of the WSA with the
state land nearly bisecting the study area. The southern boundary adjoins Zion
National Park. All land within the WSA is managed by the BLM Cedar City Field
Office. Spring Creek Canyon WSA includes a portion of the Hurricane Cliffs, an
awesome west facing escarpment that extends from north of Cedar City into
northwestern Arizona. Two major canyons, Kanarra Falls and Spring Creek
Canyon, bisect the WSA with elevations ranging from 5,600 feet at the base of
the cliffs to almost 7,900 feet on the ridge tops. Vegetation consists
primarily of juniper, scrub oak, shrubs, and grasses; however, along the
riparian zone, sedges, rushes, cottonwoods, and willows are prevalent. The
area provides habitat for various birds of prey such as the bald eagle and
peregrine falcon as well as 13 species of animals and 4 plant species that are
considered sensitive. The majority of the WSA is rated outstanding for scenic
quality due to the stunning, narrow red rock canyons that offer spectacular
hiking along the streambeds. In particular, hiking in Kanarra Canyon involves
traveling (and sometimes wading) along Kanarra Creek and climbing up and over
several beautiful waterfalls. Due to its immense beauty and unique hiking
opportunities, this area sees a large number of visitors every year.

Spring Creek Canyon

The LaVerkin Creek Wilderness now contains a total of 445 acres and is managed
by the Bureau of Land Management. All of the Wilderness is in the state of
Utah. In 2009 the LaVerkin Creek Wilderness became part of the now over 109
million acre National Wilderness Preservation System. In wilderness, you can
enjoy challenging recreational activities and extraordinary opportunities for
solitude. In an age of _"...increasing population, accompanied by expanding
settlement and growing mechanization,..."_ you play an important role in
helping to _"...secure for the American people of present and future
generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness"_ as called for
by Congress in the Wilderness Act of 1964. Please follow the regulations in
place for this area, and use Leave No Trace techniques when visiting to ensure
protection of its unique natural and experiential qualities.

Deep Creek North Wilderness

At 445 acres, LaVerkin Creek is the largest of four BLM managed Wilderness
areas that border Zion National Park. Its southern boundary with the park is
over 1.25 miles long. Like Goose Creek Wilderness, this area consists of steep
canyon walls that drop into a creek drainage. This drainage is LaVerkin Creek,
a wild river in the National Wild and Scenic River System. The northwest
corner of the Wilderness contains the lower reach of Bear Canyon. Access to
this Wilderness is difficult as the area is surrounded by private property on
its western, eastern, and northern borders, and is remotely located at the
northern boundary of the National Park. Similar to Goose Creek, Bear Trap, and
Taylor Creek Wilderness, the habitat value of LaVerkin Creek Wilderness is
greatly enhanced by its proximity to Zion National Park and the thousands of
acres of remote, private wild lands surrounding it. The Wilderness sits at an
elevation of 6,800. Dense vegetation including pines, juniper, and scrub oak;
canyon wall created shade; access to water; and other factors create habitat
suitable for a large of plants and animals.

Largely a rugged, steeply sloped area, this Wilderness contains the headwater
areas for many tributaries that flow through Bear Trap Canyon on Kolob
Terrace. A very short segment of stream in Bear Trap Canyon is designated as
wild in the National Wild and Scenic River System. Beartrap Wilderness is an
isolated parcel of land managed by the BLM. While its western boundary is
contiguous with Zion National Park, its northern, southern, and eastern
boundary borders private land. The terrain within its 40 acres consists of a
sandstone finger of a mesa and the upper reach of the Beartrap Canyon. At a
top elevation of 7,500 feet, both the mesa top and canyon bottom sustains Utah
juniper and ponderosa and pinyon pine trees. Despite its small size, but
because of its proximity to adjacent wilderness and other relatively
undisturbed lands, a wide variety of wildlife lives here. Hawks, falcons, and
eagles soar above the canyons, while ringtailed cats, mountain lion, and black
bear hunt in the uplands and along the canyon bottoms. The dissected remote
canyons also offer suitable nesting habitat for the Mexican spotted owl, a
threatened species.
