## Overview

Aquatic Park Cove is a vibrantly urban harbor that mimics a natural anchorage
and is located on the Pacific shores of one of America's great West Coast
cities. San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park's Aquatic Park Cove is
the small craft gateway to San Francisco. Vessels entering Aquatic Park Cove
are instructed to contact the Park's permit officer on VHF marine radio
channel 83A (157.175Mhz) using the call sign "Aquatic Park NPS" followed by
transmission of the vessel's name. Reservations serve as a permit for visiting
sailing vessels to stay overnight in the cove. Sailing vessels with auxiliary
engines are authorized to use engines to maneuver at very low speed within the
cove in order to safely enter, anchor, and depart the cove. Use of small
outboard engine on dinghies is authorized for safe transit to and from vessel
to shore only. Vessel and dinghy operators using auxuliary engines are to be
aware of swimmers and wildlife at all times. Vessels or watercraft without
sailing rigs whose primary design falls into the class of motorboat,
speedboat, & powerboat (including jet skis), are strictly prohibited from
entering or anchoring in Aquatic Park Cove.

## Recreation

The Cove offers aquatic opportunities to many park users such as kayakers,
paddle boarders, rowers, as well as open water swimming in a semi-protected
environment.

## Facilities

Overnight Use: A reservation serves as your permit to bring a sailing vessel
(auxiliary engine OK) and anchor overnight in the cove. There are no dinghy
docks or boathouse facilities. Access to the shore is island-style beach
landing. Visitors are asked not to secure dinghies to historic lamp posts but
to use wooden pilings adjacent to the Dolphin Club for this purpose (see map).
Once ashore, visitors can enjoy a well-maintained soft sand beach near a
relaxing grassy park perfect for picnics and panoramic views of San Francisco
Bay immediately south of iconic Alcatraz Island & Angel Island. Restrooms and
open outdoor showers are available on park property during the park's regular
business hours. Day Use: Day use of the Cove by visiting vessels does not
require a reservation, except during high use days and special events within
the Cove, or during major events occurring along the San Francisco Waterfront.
Days when a day-use permit will be required will be posted on the park's
website . This reservation serves as an anchor permit application. Upon
entering Aquatic Park Cove, the National Park Service requests the vessel
operator hail Aquatic Park Cove NPS on marine channel 83A to confirm APA

dominated by the Streamline Modern Aquatic Park Bathhouse with the slopes of

Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary protects the wildlife and
habitats of one of the most diverse and bountiful marine environments in the
world. This sanctuary shelters a diverse collection of marine habitats and
supports an abundance of life, including many threatened or endangered
species. Located 30 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Farallon Islands
are a national wildlife refuge that offers resting and breeding sites for
marine mammals and seabirds. Camping, tidepooling, and surfing are activities
visitors can enjoy to see each of these protected wildlife, habitats, and

by the Greater Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary Visitor

## Recreation

Visitors who wish to take advantage of the Presidio's many scenic bike routes
can rent bikes through the Bay Wheels Bike Share program or at the Sports

## Facilities

**Rob Hill is generally open for camping between April 1 and October 31 each
year.** The campground has four group campsites that can accommodate up to 30
people each. Two of the sites, the Ishmen and Yunahia sites, are accessible
campsites that contain raised tent pads. Each campsite is equipped with a fire
ring, a large charcoal grill, four picnic tables, and two food storage boxes.

**Rob Hill is a tent-only campground. RVs, pop-up trailers, camper vans, or
other similar camping-vehicles are not allowed.** All four of the campsites
can be reached by an approximately 200 ft walk up a paved, accessible path.

Rob Hill has indoor toilets with running water, but no showers. The restrooms
are ADA compliant. A set of utility sinks are located near the bathrooms where
campers may wash their dishes. Potable water is available at the drinking
fountain near the restrooms or the water faucets on the east and west sides of
the campground.

There are landfill, recycling, and organics/compost bins on the east and west
sides of the campground. Campers at Rob Hill can help the Presidio’s goal of
becoming a Zero Waste park by separating their compostable items, recyclable
items, and landfill waste into the appropriate bins provided at the

**Small lockers for personal items** are available at the campground located
in the scullery. Each site is offered one (1) locker which corresponds with
the name of the campsite. Information on how to open and lock lockers is
available on the front and back of each locker door. You may utilize the
locker for your entire reservation and all items must be removed by 11 AM on
the day of check out. If you forget your code, call the camp site manager at
(415) 314-8135. Please allow 72 hours for a response as staff is limited.
Items left behind will go to Lost and Found at the Presidio Field Station and
be held for 14 days.

**Four parking spaces are allocated per campsite at the campground parking lot
on Central Magazine Rd. Additional vehicles will need to park off-site, in any
public parking lot in the Presidio.** The nearest parking lots are
approximately a 5 minute walk away. Please see your reservation confirmation
for suggested off-site parking lots. Additional information about

page .

## Natural Features

The Presidio is a natural oasis right next door to a big city – a place where
you can experience wildflowers, watersheds, and wildlife on an afternoon hike.
It is also a where important work is being done to revitalize natural areas
and to show how people and the environment can thrive in harmony. At the
Presidio, you can explore habitats that have been lost in the urban Bay Area;
see a fox or a hawk hunt for their next meal; or stroll around a natural lake
that has been brought back to life.

Mountain Lake, one of San Francisco's last surviving natural lakes, is located
less than two miles south of Rob Hill on the southern edge of the Presidio.
Since 2013 the Presidio Trust has been working with scientists, academic
institutions, and volunteers to help revitalize the lake. Polluted soil and
invasive species were removed from the lake, and native plant and animal
species, such as the Western Pond Turtle and Pacific Chorus Frog are being
reestablished. In addition to the many resident species that call Mountain
Lake home, 65 migratory bird species have been document visiting the lake on
their journey along the Pacific Flyway.

Experienced and newer birders alike will also want to visit Crissy Marsh and
Quartermaster Reach Marsh , located about two miles northwest of Rob Hill. The
fresh water that flows through the Presidio's largest watershed, the Tennessee
Hollow Watershed ultimately meets the salty waters of San Francisco Bay here,
creating a vibrant destination for more than 100 bird species, including those
stopping for rest as they make their long journey along the Pacific Flyway.

Campers interested in learning more about some of the unique plant life that
can be found in the Presidio are encouraged to visit the Ecology Trail . A
little over one mile in length, this trail passes through lush restored
serpentine grasslands where, from spring to early summer, you may see the
endangered Presidio Clarkia and other native wildflowers in bloom. You'll also
find yourself amid towering redwoods, oaks, eucalyptus, Monterey pine, and
Monterey cypress at various points along the trail.

campground makes for an excellent base camp for groups wanting to walk or bike

Campers looking for more national park experiences can explore the other units
of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), including Fort Point
National Historic Site , Muir Woods National Monument , and Alcatraz Island .
Stretched across 80,000 acres north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge, the
37 parks sites of the GGNRA constitute one of the world’s largest national
parks in an urban setting. In total, the GGNRA has more than 130 miles of
trails, and 1,200 historic structures, making it a wonderful place to explore
for nature lovers and history buffs alike.

## Charges & Cancellations

**Reservation holders may make up to two changes per reservation.** A service
fee may be charged at the time a modification is made depending on the
changes.

**Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and
through the call center.** A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund
for a cancellation. Cancellations less than 14 days before the arrival date
will pay a $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee.

<p>The Presidio is a natural oasis right next door to a big city – a place where you can experience wildflowers, watersheds, and wildlife on an afternoon hike. It is also a where important work is being done to revitalize natural areas and to show how people and the environment can thrive in harmony. At the Presidio, you can explore habitats that have been lost in the urban Bay Area; see a fox or a hawk hunt for their next meal; or stroll around a natural lake that has been brought back to life.   </p>
<p><a href="https://www.presidio.gov/places/mountain-lake" rel="nofollow">Mountain Lake</a>, one of San Francisco's last surviving natural lakes, is located less than two miles south of Rob Hill on the southern edge of the Presidio. Since 2013 the Presidio Trust has been working with scientists, academic institutions, and volunteers to help revitalize the lake. Polluted soil and invasive species were removed from the lake, and native plant and animal species, such as the Western Pond Turtle and Pacific Chorus Frog are being reestablished.  In addition to the many resident species that call Mountain Lake home, 65 migratory bird species have been document visiting the lake on their journey along the Pacific Flyway.  </p>
<p>Experienced and newer birders alike will also want to visit <a href="https://www.presidio.gov/places/crissy-marsh" rel="nofollow">Crissy Marsh</a>  and <a href="https://www.presidio.gov/places/quartermaster-reach-marsh" rel="nofollow">Quartermaster Reach Marsh</a> , located about two miles northwest of Rob Hill. The fresh water that flows through the Presidio's largest watershed, the <a href="https://www.presidio.gov/places/tennessee-hollow-watershed" rel="nofollow">Tennessee Hollow Watershed</a>  ultimately meets the salty waters of San Francisco Bay here, creating a vibrant destination for more than 100 bird species, including those stopping for rest as they make their long journey along the Pacific Flyway. </p>
<p>Campers interested in learning more about some of the unique plant life that can be found in the Presidio are encouraged to visit the <a href="https://www.presidio.gov/trails/ecology-trail" rel="nofollow">Ecology Trail</a> . A little over one mile in length, this trail passes through lush restored serpentine grasslands where, from spring to early summer, you may see the endangered Presidio Clarkia and other native wildflowers in bloom. You'll also find yourself amid towering redwoods, oaks, eucalyptus, Monterey pine, and Monterey cypress at various points along the trail. </p>

difference will be refunded to you. Discount requests that are submitted less
than one week in advance of check-in cannot be guaranteed.

Acceptable forms of proof include a copy of a Military ID card, Veteran ID
card, driver’s license with a veteran designation, issued identification card,
DD214, or a membership card to a veteran’s group (such as VFW, American
Legion, AMVETS, etc). Please redact any sensitive information (such as a
Social Security Number) that appears on any document that you attach. Name on
the proof of service must match the name of the primary occupant listed on the
reservation.

The Bay Model was built in 1957 as a research tool to test the impact of
proposed changes to San Francisco Bay and its related waterways. The model has
been used to study the effects of chemical/oil spills, altering of shipping
channels, levee failures, and bay in-filling. The hydraulic model was used to
simulate currents, tidal action, sediment movement and the mixing of fresh and
salt water. In 1980 the visitor center portion was added, and the Model
adopted the function of an Educational Center for learning about the
geography, ecology and natural history of the bay and delta areas. Although
today no active research takes place using the actual model, the facility
still remains open to the public and the visitor center still serves as a
public education center.

campers need to bring any water necessary for drinking/cooking/etc. The

Valley Trailhead parking lot, or a 3.5 mile uphill hike from Miwok Trailhead

within a biodiverse coastal scrub landscape. While the campground itself is
situated under a cluster of Monterey cypress and pine, the undulating hills
leading up to it are dotted with manzanita, coyote brush and sagebrush.
Raptors frequently soar overhead, and deer, coyotes, foxes and bobcats share
the landscape with campers. The geology that underlies the Marin Headlands and
Tennessee Valley is unique and world-renowned; for example, the outcrops of
radiolarian chert that line the trails are frequently admired by visitors from
near and far. There are multiple black sand beaches within hiking distance of
the campground.

Temperatures are mild year-round. Expect lows from 50-55 degrees and highs
from 60-65. Fog is prevalent in the summer months from May-Sept. It is best to
bring clothing that can be layered. Lightweight summer clothes are rarely
comfortable to wear at Hawk Campground.

and see. The 150-year-old Point Bonita Lighthouse (a secret jewel of the Bay

Tennessee Valley Trailhead parking lot or. Awe-inspiring Muir Woods National

the dramatic geology and colorful sand of this unique beach.

at the Tennessee Valley Trailhead parking lot. Please be prepared for a 1 mile
walk from the parking area to Haypress Campground. The trail is flat and
partially paved/partially packed dirt.

eucalyptus trees. California quails frequent the area, and raptors are often
soaring overhead. Deer, coyotes, foxes, and bobcats share this open space. The

example, outcrops of radiolarian ribbon chert that line the trails are
frequently admired by visitors from near and far.

Temperatures are mild year-round. Expect lows from 50-55 degrees and highs
from 60-65. Fog is prevalent in the summer months from May-Sept. It is best to
bring clothing that can be layered. Lightweight summer clothes are rarely
comfortable to wear at Haypress Campground.

<p>Haypress Campground is nestled within the coastal scrub of Tennessee Valley, near Mill Valley. The hike to this campground is 1 mile from the Tennessee Valley Trail head parking lot, which means car or RV camping is not allowed. Typical Haypress campers enjoy hiking to Tennessee Cove, where they can admire the dramatic geology and colorful sand of this unique beach. </p>
<h2>Recreation</h2>
<p>Tennessee Valley and the Marin Headlands are noted for great hiking, and trails are often populated with hikers regardless of the time of the year. Consider hiking to Tennessee Beach (2 miles), Muir Beach (3.5 miles), historic Battery Townsley (3.5 miles), or Rodeo Beach (4 miles). Contact the Marin Headlands Rangers at (415)-331-1540 to inquire about a ranger-led program or guided hike during your stay.</p>
<h2>Facilities</h2>
<p>This primitive hike-in campground has five overnight sites that accommodate up to four guests, and one group overnight site that accommodates up to 25 guests. Water must be packed in, and trash must be packed out. There is no water available at this campground. Each campsite has a tent pad and a food locker, and the group site has two picnic tables. The campground has two vault toilets in total. There is generally no cellphone service at the campground or at the Tennessee Valley Trailhead parking lot. Please be prepared for a 1 mile walk from the parking area to Haypress Campground. The trail is flat and partially paved/partially packed dirt. </p>

<p>Haypress Campground spans over a large grassy swath that is lined by eucalyptus trees. California quails frequent the area, and raptors are often soaring overhead. Deer, coyotes, foxes, and bobcats share this open space. The geology that underlies Tennessee Valley is unique and world-renowned; for example, outcrops of radiolarian ribbon chert that line the trails are frequently admired by visitors from near and far. </p>

<p>Temperatures are mild year-round. Expect lows from 50-55 degrees and highs from 60-65. Fog is prevalent in the summer months from May-Sept. It is best to bring clothing that can be layered. Lightweight summer clothes are rarely comfortable to wear at Haypress Campground.</p>

Kirby Cove is located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge at historic Battery
Kirby. Visitors are awarded breathtaking views of San Francisco, its famous
Golden Gate Bridge, and the rugged Pacific Coast of northern California.
Please note: The parking area for the campground is a short walk from the
campsites, so RV or car camping is not allowed at Kirby Cove Campground.

## Recreation

Hiking, picnicking and taking in the beautiful views from Kirby Cove are among
the park's most popular activities.  
Visitors also enjoy exploring Battery Kirby, a historic army battery in use
from 1898-1934. The Point Bonita Lighthouse and Nike Missile Site SF-88 are
also close to the campsite.

reached via driving on a steep access road. **Vehicle parking is separate from
the individual campsites - please be prepared for up to a 200 yard walk from
the parking area to your campsite.** There is no water available at this

etc. The day-use site is available as an accessible picnic site for persons
with a disability or otherwise limited physical mobility. Sites 2 and 5 are
available as accessible campsites for persons with a disability or otherwise
limited physical mobility. Access to the first Kirby Cove gate is available to
all campers. Access to the second gate is **only for persons with a disability
or otherwise limited physical mobility**. Contact the Marin Headlands Rangers
at least **48 hours in advance** by **emailing your name, phone number, date
of visit, and photo of your ADA vehicle placard to
goga_marinheadlands_info@nps.gov** to receive the second gate codes.
