Recreational Hot Springs (Tubs)

The Lower Rock Creek trail is 7.8 miles long. It begins at Rd. 4s80 at Hwy.395
Jct. and ends at Rd.4s80 at Paradise Lodge. The trail is open for the
following uses: Mountain Biking, hiking. The trail follows a single track
through moderately technical to technical terrain through, sagebrush to aspen
stands.

The diverse wild lands of the Granite Mountain Wilderness offer excellent
opportunities for day hiking, backpacking and horseback riding. A climb up the
nearly 9000 foot Granite Mountain or Horse Peak yields one of the most amazing
views in the whole Eastern Sierra: a complete 360 degree vista encompassing
the Sierran scarp, the volcanic Mono Craters and Glass Mountain, the rugged
White Mountains, Adobe Valley, the Excelsior Range in Nevada, the Bodie Hills,
and Mono Lake.

Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot
high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. The formation is a rare
sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of
columnar basalt. Its' columns tower up to 60 feet and display a striking
symmetry.

its unique geologic features formed by the cataclysmic volcanic eruption of
the Long Valley Caldera 750,000 y.a. which left a highly dissected landscape
of Bishop Tuff. Through time, this once barren tableau has evolved to support
a unique and fragile environment that takes a keen eye and time to appreciate.
The Volcanic Tablelands is situated at the ecological cusp of the Northern
Mojave and Great Basin floristic Provinces where plants and associated
wildlife species combine to make this an unusual and biologically diverse
landscape. It has taken millennia for this environment to evolve and it will
take responsible recreational users to preserve it into perpetuity - so enjoy
and protect this place
