Plumas National Forest

The camp sites and campground was great. However RECREATION.gov gets a ONE STAR!! Ever since the reservations have gone through your company the people of California can't get into our own campgrounds. Through the past years I've been to multiple campgrounds, Kings Canyon, New Brighton, Bernal Falls and now Long Point. At every location it took several attempts to get a reservation and when we got there many of the campsites were not even occupied. Online all the campgrounds said they were full. During our latest visit we had to move to another camp site because the fist one where we were at was "reserved". For the rest of our time that particular site was never occupied. The camp host said people keep canceling there reservation in order to get the dates they really want. At Bernal falls the majority of the campground was empty, but the sign outside said full. When we asked the park ranger he said its because no one showed up. He also said "its OK because this means less work for us". Same attitude art Kings Canyon. One whole campground wasn't even occupied during peak season.

Had a great time with my cousins here lake is absolutely beautiful and the site itself was the perfect vibe. The water was nice and cold felt great especially with the crazy hot weather. The hosts cleaned the bathrooms every morning of our stay there and were super sweet people. Would definitely recommend to anyone the only thing to keep is mind there is no service so just plan accordingly and download music/maps.

Lakes Basin is wonderful. Great hikes, with several beautiful accessible lakes, wildflowers and nearby waterfalls. A positive shout out to our camp hosts! Their hospitality was so welcoming. Needless to say, our campsite was clean and well-maintained.

We have been going to this campground for almost 40 years. We make it a point to get back here at least one time each summer. It was better than ever this summer, thanks to an awesome campground host duo. John and Sugie both have a month history in the Lakes Basin area and therefor have an amazing commitment to keeping the place beautiful and respectful. There's been some not so great camp hosts and concessionaires in other seasons. This year was the best.

Our camp host, David was very helpful and friendly during our stay. He not only helped us with several issues regarding our campsite, offered to help us move our boat trailer and since we did not have any cell service and we needed to contact our son, he offered his satellite phone if we needed. He cleaned the toilets several times while we were there, but unfortunately since a service does not come to the campground as often as they used to, the toilets smelled so BAD. We did not have to use them as we had a toilet in our RV, but there were times we could not sit outside at the campsite because of the stench. And all the people who did have to use them were covering their faces to try to lessen the smell. Hopefully, for next season, you will hire a service to empty them more often.

We love going to this camp ground, however, this trip was the first where we encountered a bear (or two?). I'm very surprised there aren't bear boxes installed by now. We believe two bears cane to our site four times in one night. We chased them away each time, and barely got any sleep.
