amongst old-growth trees, one can relax at Susan Creek Campground, take a hike
along the river on the 1.5 mile long Emerald Trail or stroll up the short
trail to 50’ tall Susan Creek Falls. Anglers from across the country, flock to
the North Umpqua to fly-fish for the elusive salmon and steelhead. The 79-mile
long North Umpqua Trail is perfect for longer distance hikes and mountain bike
excursions.

Of the pavilions in the North Umpqua River Recreation Area, Rock Creek is the
quietest and most secluded from neighboring group areas and is surrounded by
old growth trees that reach over 150 feet.  
  
The nearby North Umpqua River was designated as a Wild and Scenic River in
1988. This classification protects 34 miles of the river for its outstanding
scenery and exciting outdoor recreation activities.

## Recreation

Play some volleyball on the grass volleyball court or challenge your group to
a round of horseshoes.  
  
The stretch of Rock Creek outside the pavilion is a destination for spawning
salmon and steelhead in the spring and fall. Because of this, fishing is not

## Overview:

Pack a lunch in your backpack and head out for an attractive hike through an
old growth forest. This 1.2 mile forest trail leads to a cascading two-tier
waterfall that plummets 75 and 50 feet into plunge pools. During the rainy
seasons of winter and early spring, the massive upper Wolf Creek Falls puts on
a display of strength and power. Spring brings on lush vegetation and vibrant
colors for photographers. The reduced water flows in the summer months reveal
the complex channels and pathways the water has carved into the bedrock cliffs
underneath Wolf Creek Falls.

## Know Before You Go:

  * The trailhead provides ample parking, a vault toilet, and a picnic table across the road from the trailhead.
  * A single picnic site is located approximately one-half mile up the trail.
  * Please stay on the trail to avoid starting new trails.
  * Open year round.

<p>Pack a lunch in your backpack and head out for an attractive hike through an old growth forest. This 1.2 mile forest trail leads to a cascading two-tier waterfall that plummets 75 and 50 feet into plunge pools. During the rainy seasons of winter and early spring, the massive upper Wolf Creek Falls puts on a display of strength and power. Spring brings on lush vegetation and vibrant colors for photographers. The reduced water flows in the summer months reveal the complex channels and pathways the water has carved into the bedrock cliffs underneath Wolf Creek Falls.</p>

<h2>Know Before You Go:</h2>

	<li>The trailhead provides ample parking, a vault toilet, and a picnic table across the road from the trailhead.</li>
	<li>A single picnic site is located approximately one-half mile up the trail.</li>
	<li>Please stay on the trail to avoid starting new trails.</li>

Wolf Creek Recreation Area

Welcome to the North Bank Habitat Management Area. North Bank offers visitors
the opportunity to hike, bike, and horseback ride on miles of roads and
trails. With hidden creeks, high ridgelines, oak-savannah woodlands, and
thickly forested canyons, the opportunities for wonderful views are nearly
endless. Two access points offer access into the heart of North Bank. At the
Comstock day-use area, a pavilion, picnic tables, barbecue grill and vault
toilet offers a superb venue for your post-outing picnic.

## Know Before You Go:

  * BLM-host on duty at main entrance.
  * The main entrance gate is open Friday through Monday, 8am to 8pm.
  * West Entrance: Can accommodate 4-5 horse trailers or 10 vehicles, and has a small Informational kiosk.
  * Comstock Day Use Area: Can accommodate 6-8 horse trailers and 8 vehicles.
  * There is no potable water at North Bank so be sure to bring your own.
  * North Bank is closed to all motorized use.
  * Hunting is a popular activity in the fall. Use caution if recreating this time of year.

North Bank has been set aside for the conservation of Columbian white-tailed
deer habitat. Bring your binoculars and try and spot this elusive deer along
with many other types of wildlife including black bear, cougar and fox.

North Bank Habitat Management Area

China Ditch was a 33-mile project dug by 200 Chinese laborers in the 1890's to
supply water for gold mining operations. The China Ditch is over one-hundred
years old, but it is still clearly visible on the hillsides. A trip to the
ditch can help to re-live the history of the golden years of western mining.
The BLM, along with the Umpqua National Forest have set aside some 11 miles of
the ditch for preservation. The BLM maintains a 4000 foot section of the ditch
as a trail where the public can experience the history of Oregon's mining
days. The self-guided driving tour is yet another way of getting to know the
history of the China Ditch. Along the tour are informative signs that explain
the history of the ditch. Also, there are areas on the driving tour where
artifacts of the past are clearly visible, such as the hydraulic piping used
to transport water down the steep hillsides. At the end of the loop you reach
the town of Myrtle Creek. There, you can try your luck at panning in the
scenic and gold-laden South Umpqua River. The driving loop is accessible by
most vehicles depending on weather conditions. Be sure to have your camera in
hand, because there may be numerous wildlife photo opportunities.
