The wetlands of Mortenson National Wildlife Refuge provide important water
resources that support resting, nesting and foraging areas for migratory birds
in the semiarid environment of the Laramie Plains basin. The three Laramie
Plains refuges, Bamforth, Hutton Lake and Mortenson Lake are designated as
Important Bird Areas by Wyoming Audubon.

Executive Order. Consisting of 1,928 acres, the refuge is located
approximately 10 miles southwest of Laramie. The refuge include Hutton Lake,
Rush Lake, Creighton Lake, and Lake George. Mallards, redheads, teal,
pintails, great blue herons, black crowned night-herons, phalaropes, western
grebes, bitterns, and black terns use the refuge during fall and spring

of the Michigan River. The elevation here is 9,200 ft.

The small quaint Aspen Campground offers a peaceful, scenic setting in the

in Routt National Forest at an elevation of 9,052-ft., and is adjacent to Owl
Mountain with easy access to OHV and Wilderness trails

This campground offers access to many recreational opportunities for the
adventurer. OHV and Wilderness hiking are the two most popular options. OHV
options include skill levels from beginner to expert riding. For those looking
to take it easy, use the Forest Road 740 for scenic forest riding. For those
looking for more of a challenge, use the Silver Creek road (780) or Calamity
Pass. Those looking for wilderness access, use the Silver Creek, South Fork,
Jack Park, Jack Creek, Illinois River, or Illinois Pass Trail Heads. All of
these trail heads take you into the Never Summer Wilderness which is the back
side of Rocky National Park.

The popular Big Creek Lakes Campground offers a peaceful, scenic setting in
the heart of the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. The campground is
located in Routt National Forest at an elevation of 9,000-ft., and is adjacent
to Big Creek Lake, where fishing, boating and hiking are available. Trails and
one corral are available for the Equestrians.

## Recreation

This campground offers boating and fishing on Colorado's second largest
natural lake, hiking in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness and ATV trails nearby.
There are also ample opportunities for viewing wildlife, including moose.  
  
Fishing for trout, muskie, grayling and Kokanee salmon is available in the
lake. Anglers also have access to a creek. Non-motorized boats are allowed on
the upper section of the lake and motorized boats are permitted on the lower
section.

## Facilities

This facility has a campground and day use area. There are 24 reservable
campsites and 30 first-come, first-served campsites, all of which are near Big
Creek Lake. Two boat ramps are provided for the convenience of boaters and
anglers. A campground host (When available) is on-site for visitor assistance
and one horse corral, located near site 17, is provided on a first come first
served availability.

Big Creek lies among Lodgepole pine and fir trees. Some previously forested
areas of the campground have been thinned due to pests and now provide more
sun. The campground offers beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness.  
  
The wetlands around the lake are prime moose territory. Black bear, bobcat,
coyote, elk, mule deer and moose are just some of the many animals that
inhabit these rich and diverse lands.

## Overview

Resting atop of a nearly 11,000-foot summit, Blackhall Mountain Lookout is
perched in the Sierra Madre Range in southeast Wyoming. Traveling to the end
of one of the highest roads in Wyoming rewards the visitor with panoramic
views of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.

Built in 1963, and listed on the National Historic Registry, this remote
lookout tower sleeps 4 comfortably with one queen sized bed, and one twin
sized bunk bed. The tower is equipped with LED solar lights, and strong AT&T;
and Union signals. Don’t miss the beautiful Wyoming sunrises and sunsets and
an occasional lightning storm from the wrap-around catwalk offering 360-degree
views!

**Being a remote cabin, water & Propane are not available, please plan ahead
and bring your own drinking water and your own propane stove so you can cook
during your stay.** A vault toilet is located nearby. Also, please bring your
own bedding, dishes, silverware, and cooking utensils. Outlets and charge
ports are not available. Additionally, the last 3 miles leading to Blackhall
Mountain Lookout require a high clearance vehicle with 4WD. Packing a saw in
case of fallen trees on the road is also recommended. Lastly, please be
advised this is a functioning fire tower and therefore availability of the
cabin could be modified on the reservation system at any time to be utilized
during a fire.

## Overview

**Bottle Creek Group Picnic Site offers a large area for groups of up to 75
people to gather and enjoy the outdoors allow for up to 10 cars any more are
subject to a $5 day use fee.**

The facility lies at an elevation of 8,800 feet within the Bottle Creek
Campground in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The area's year-round
recreation opportunities offer something for every adventurer and outdoor
lover. Hiking, fishing and camping are available nearby.

**Trash Service is NOT Provided.**

## Recreation

Visitors come to Bottle Creek to picnic, fish, hike, camp and relax in the
shade of the forest. Fishing for brown and rainbow trout is available on the
Encampment and North Fork Encampment River. The adjacent campground is fairly
open and makes an excellent base for fall hunting.  
  
Day hiking is popular on the Green Mountain Falls and Encampment River Trails.

## Facilities

The Group Picnic Site has numerous large picnic tables, two serving tables,
two large pedestal grills and one large wood grill. Approximately 150 feet of
picnic table space on site. Camping is not permitted in the group picnic site.
However, adjacent campsites in Bottle Creek Campground allow for overnight
events. The campground offers 12 campsites available by reservation. The
campground provides picnic tables, toilets, drinking water and fire grates.

Bottle Creek Group Picnic Site offers a large area for groups of up to 75 people to gather and enjoy the outdoors allow for up to 10 cars any more are subject to a $5 day use fee.The facility lies at an elevation of 8,800 feet within the Bottle Creek Campground in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The area's year-round recreation opportunities offer something for every adventurer and outdoor lover. Visitors come to Bottle Creek to picnic, fish, hike, camp and relax in the shade of the forest. Fishing for brown and rainbow trout is available on the Encampment and North Fork Encampment River. The adjacent campground is fairly open and makes an excellent base for fall hunting. 
 
Day hiking is popular on the Green Mountain Falls and Encampment River Trails.<h2>Facilities</h2>
The Group Picnic Site has numerous large picnic tables, two serving tables, two large pedestal grills and one large wood grill. Approximately 150 feet of picnic table space on site. Camping is not permitted in the group picnic site. However, adjacent campsites in Bottle Creek Campground allow for overnight events. The campground offers 12 campsites available by reservation. OHVs can explore the Campbell Lake Loop after July 1, approximately 9 miles
south of the campground. Pick up a motor vehicle use map for free at the
Ranger station in Saratoga or call to have one emailed to you.

Nearby hiking trails include Rock Creek, Sheep Lake, and Crater Lake.

## Recreation

The Snowy Range offers endless recreational activities for any kind of
visitor. Specifically, the Snowy Range contains a network of hiking trails
suitable for day hiking and for extended, backcountry trips. Additionally,
Streams and over 100 lakes in the area provide a variety of challenging
recreational-fishing opportunities in the area. Popular attractions near this
campground include Silver Lake, Lake Marie Falls, Mirror Lake, Medicine Bow
Peak Trail, French Creek Canyon Trail and Miners Cabin Trail. Winter
activities in the area include snowshoeing and skiing.

Adventurers love sleeping under the towering trees and night sky of the
secluded Brooklyn Lake Campground in the mountains of southeastern Wyoming.
Located eight miles northwest of Centennial, Wyoming, the facility is situated
along a small, picturesque lake at an elevation of 10,500 feet.

This campground will have a mix of reservation sites and first-come, first-
served sites for the 2026 season. If you are not reserving your site, you may
be able to pay for your campsite(s) by cash or check once you are at the
campground.

## Recreation

Popular activities include hiking, fishing and non-motorized boating. The
36-acre lake is a nice canoeing spot with calm water. Non-motorized boats are
allowed on Brooklyn Lake with carry-down access for small recreational
watercrafts. There is no boat ramp and trailered vessels cannot be used at
this location.  
  
Fishing is good for brook trout. From the campground, hikers can access the
Sheep Lake and Lost Lake Trails. Sheep Lake Trail also allows horseback
riding.

Brooklyn Lake Campground has 19 campsites, 5 of which can accomadate longer or
trailered setups in a pull-through site. Sites are equiped with campfire rings
and picnic tables.

All sites have access to two water handpumps, two vault toilets, and trash

are available.

Handpump water is typically available in this campground from July to
September. These dates may vary due to weather, well and/or pump maintenance,
and water testing requirements. As such, we encourage you to bring your own
water or call ahead.

Brush Creek Hiking/Ski Trails, the Brush Creek Pavilion is an aproximately 32
feet by 40 feet structure with 6 picnic tables with additional space within
the Pavilion for vistors to set up their own small portable tables and chairs.
The maximum capacity at the Pavilion is 75 people. Adjacent to the Pavilion is
one barbeque grill, and outside of the Pavilion is a fire ring. An accessible
toilet is located approximately 300 feet away. Overnight use or camping is
prohibited at the Pavilion. However, Ryan Park CG, South Brush Creek CG and
Lincoln Park CG are located just minutes away. A bear resistant dumpster is
located approximately 100 yards from the Pavilion. The Pavilion is surrounded
by historic structures constructed by the Civil Conservation Corps in 1930's.

The cabin offers an ideal winter playground, with a snowy landscape perfect
for recreation. Snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities.
The Brush Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails are made up of loop trails winding
through aspen, lodgepole pine stands and reclaimed clear-cuts. The frequency
of trail grooming depends on weather conditions and equipment.

## Recreation

After the Wyoming Highway Department closes their gate for the winter the
highway becomes a popular snowmobile trail. The Wyoming State Trails map shows
over 300 miles of groomed and ungroomed trail. A new map is created each year.  
  
Other recreational opportunities in the area include cross country skiing on
the trails behind the Barracks and sledding at the old Ryan Park Ski Area.

## Facilities

This bi-level house can accommodate up to eight people comfortably in four
bedrooms with a set of twin beds in each. The small living room has a TV, but
reception is weak.  
The large kitchen and dining area is equipped with a refrigerator, stove,
microwave, basic kitchen utensils and cooking supplies. Two bathrooms include
showers and  
flush toilets. The house has electricity and heat.  
  
  
  
**Guests should bring a few of their own supplies, including food, sleeping
bags, pillows, towels, dish soap, extra toilet paper and garbage bags.
Additional light  
sources should be brought for emergencies. All trash and food should be packed

## Overview

Campbell Creek Campground sits at an elevation of 7,920 feet in a remote area
at the western end of the Laramie Mountains on the Douglas Ranger District.
There are 6 sites under mature pine trees with picnic tables, fire rings,
pedestal grills, a vault toilet, pump water well, and trash bins. This is
possibly the most peaceful and popular campground on the Douglas Ranger
District.

Recreation

The Laramie Peak area in the Medicine Bow National Forest is located in
Central Wyoming. The Douglas Ranger District manages the Laramie Peak and
Thunder basin National Grasslands areas. Year-round recreation uses include
hiking, fishing, hunting, OHV riding, camping, biking and horseback trail
riding. Primary access across the district is by I-25 and Highway 59.

## Facilities

There are 5 single campsites and 1 double campsite in a lightly wooded, area
with picnic tables, fire rings, pedestal grills, vault toilets, trash
collection, and potable water. Most campsites have a dispersed feel as they
are widely spaced apart.

Potable water is typically available in this campground from mid-May to late
November. These dates may vary due to weather. Potable water availability may
vary due to well and/or pump maintenance, and water testing requirements. As
such, we encourage you to bring your own potable water or call ahead.

## Natural Features

Campbell Creek Campground sits at an elevation of 7,920 feet in a remote area
at the western end of the Laramie Mountains on the Douglas Ranger District.
Visitors can enjoy listening to the gurgling of Campbell Creek which runs
through the middle of the campground while staying cool under the thick forest
canopy. The road leading into the area passes through the scenic LaPrele
Canyon and crosses the LaPrele Creek multiple times.

## Nearby Attractions

Nearby attractions include the #618 Twin Peaks Trail, #659 Deer Creek Trail,
#696 Elkhorn Trail, the historic LaPrele Guard Station, and Little Medicine
Falls. The open season generally runs from early June through early November,
weather dependent. All sites are first-come first-serve if not reserved
through Recreation.gov.

**ABOUT:** Cold Springs Campground is located approximately 16.5 miles outside
of Yampa, Colorado with views of the Flat Tops Wilderness. This is a small,
very popular campground with 5 campsites. The area accesses some great fishing
and hiking, with a nearby boat launch at the Yamcolo Reservoir as well as 2
other reservoirs nearby.

**AMENITIES:** 1 vault toilet, potable water, and each campsite has a picnic
table and fire grate. No electric or showers.

**HIKING:** This is a prime area as the campground is close to the Stillwater
and Smith Lake Trailheads on Forest Service Rd 900. Paper trail guides for
hiking as well as other information are available at the Yampa Ranger Station
in downtown Yampa.

**DIRECTIONS:** From downtown Yampa, take County Road 7 just behind the local
General Store, (Montgomery’s Grocery) for approximately 6 miles. The paved
road turns into gravel where it becomes Forest Service Road 900. Cold Springs
Campground is 16 miles on the right side after passing Bear Lake and Horseshoe
Campgrounds.

Curtis Gulch Campground sits at an elevation of 6,640 feet, at the end of the
long and scenic LaBonte Canyon. There are 6 sites along a bend in the creek
with picnic tables, fire rings, pedestal grills, a vault toilet, pump water
well, and trash bins.

## Recreation

Recreation

The canyon bottom is about 6,700 feet in elevation and has granite rock
formations for technical rock climbing and photography. LaBonte Creek runs
through the entire length of the canyon and offers anglers many opportunities
to catch the rainbow trout stocked annually by the WGFD. For OHV riding, the
LaBonte Canyon Trail starts at the back of the campground, and The Big Bear
Trail System is located just 1/4 mile up the canyon. Both are 50” or less OHV
trails but are also commonly used for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.
FSRD #610, Devil's Pass, and the South Fork LaBonte Trails to the south offer
additional opportunities for adventure. The Curtis Gulch Trail is non-
motorized and starts at the trail parking area just outside the campground.

Canyon. The natural beauty of the steep canyon sides, LaBonte Creek running
the length of the entire canyon, and patches of aspen within the mature
conifer forest, makes this area one of the most popular and frequently visited
on the district.

Brumley FSRD 690, Devil's Pass FSRD 610, and the FSTR 635 S Fork LaBonte

## Overview

Deep Creek Campground is located near Sand Lake at an elevation just over
10,000 feet. The summers are cool and autumn is brief. Winter comes early and
stays late.

Campground facilities include 11 small campsites, one pull through site,
picnic tables, toilets, drinking water, fire rings. **This is a pack-it-in-
pack-it-out campsite. No trash service in the area.**

For hiking, the Rock Creek Trail and Sheep Lake Trail are nearby. Crater Lake
Trail provides a short hike to a beautiful lake. Boats must be carried a short
distance to reach the lake.

## Recreation

The Snowy Range offers endless recreational activities for any kind of
visitor. Specifically, the Snowy Range contains a network of hiking trails
suitable for day hiking and for extended, backcountry trips. Additionally,
Streams and over 100 lakes in the area provide a variety of challenging
recreational-fishing opportunities in the area. Popular attractions near this
campground include Silver Lake, Lake Marie Falls, Mirror Lake, Medicine Bow
Peak Trail, French Creek Canyon Trail and Miners Cabin Trail. Winter
activities in the area include snowshoeing and skiing.

acres in size with a maximum depth of 15 feet. Sand Lake is stocked by the

rainbow trout and Splake (hybrid of a male brook trout and female lake trout).

Use of live-bait fish is prohibited in lakes and streams within the Forest.

Deep Creek Campground is located near Sand Lake at an elevation just over 10,000 feet. The summers are cool and autumn is brief. Winter comes early and stays late. 
Campground facilities include 11 small campsites, one pull through site, picnic tables, toilets, drinking water, fire rings. This is a pack-it-in-pack-it-out campsite. No trash service in the area. 
For hiking, the Rock Creek Trail and Sheep Lake Trail are nearby. Crater Lake Trail provides a short hike to a beautiful lake. Boats must be carried a short distance to reach the lake.

Specifically, the Snowy Range contains a network of hiking trails suitable for day hiking and for extended, backcountry trips. Dry Lake Trailhead is located off County Road 60 (Buffalo Pass Road) and is
near the Dry Lake Campground. This trailhead provides access to both non-
motorized and motorized trails. Access for dirt bikes and other recreational
vehicles on Buffalo Pass Road. This is a very high-use year-round trailhead
and a gateway to exploring the aspens, sub-alpine firs, and wildflowers of the
mountains of the Park Range. A vault toilet is provided at the Trailhead. Dry
Lake Trailhead is managed by the Hahn’s Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District in
Steamboat Springs.

In the summer and shoulder seasons, there is access to multiple hiking trails
which are also beginner through advanced mountain bike trails (Panorama,
Fiddlehead, Flash of Gold, Spring Creek, Spring Roll, BTR, Soda, Buffalo
Billy's, and several others) and single-track dirt-bike trails (Great White
Buffalo and upper Flash of Gold). Continental Divide Trail heading south from
the top of Buffalo Pass is open to ATC 50” or less. Heading north from the top
of the pass users almost immediately enter Mount Zirkel Wilderness.

In the winter, Dry Lake Trailhead is the primary access to the Buffalo Pass
Winter Backcountry Permit Area. This area has special regulations to ensure

Located at an elevation of 6,300 feet, the campground sits in an open forest of ponderosa pine. 

The Laramie Peak Unit of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland encompass approximately 352,000 acres of the Laramie Range in central Wyoming.

Mule deer, elk, black bear, whitetail deer, antelope, bald eagles, gos hawks, bobcat, coyote, big horned sheep, yellow-bellied marmots, and mountain lions are just some of the many animals that inhabit the diverse lands on Laramie Peak.

If your new stay dates are completely different from your original stay dates, there is a $10 change fee (per reserved site). There are no additional fees for:

You can cancel the reservation any time before the date of your scheduled arrival. You will receive a refund for your stay, minus the following fees:

French Creek Campground is located on Forest Road 206. Facilities include 11
campsites (small trailers only up to 32 feet), water, picnic tables, toilets,
fire grates and **Trash Service is NOT Provided**. Note: No water or trash
services beyond mid September.)

Fishing access is available nearby in both North and South French Creeks.

The Lower Tie Hack trailhead is .25 mile east of the campground.

## Recreation

The Snowy Range offers endless recreational activities for any kind of
visitor. Specifically, the Snowy Range contains a network of hiking trails
suitable for day hiking and for extended, backcountry trips. Additionally,
Streams and over 100 lakes in the area provide a variety of challenging
recreational-fishing opportunities in the area. Popular attractions near this
campground include Silver Lake, Lake Marie Falls, Mirror Lake, Medicine Bow
Peak Trail, French Creek Canyon Trail and Miners Cabin Trail. Winter
activities in the area include snowshoeing and skiing.
