Bar-K Wrangler Camp is a quiet campground located on the west bank of Swan
Creek and serves as a Trailhead for the Swan Creek Trail.  The campground is
used frequently by equestrians. Whether you choose one of the designated sites
or decide to spread out in the big field across the road you'll have plenty of
room for yourself and your horse when you visit.

During the summer months you can cool off with a quick wade in Swan Creek.

At night you can enjoy the quiet  in a primitive horse camp, surrounded by
maples, oaks, hickories, and dogwood. During the day you'll have access to the
23-miles of riding, hiking, and mountain bike trails in Swan Creek.

Barn Hollow Float Camp is on the left bank of the Eleven Point National Scenic
River. This camp is located 10.4 miles downriver of Greer Crossing. Access is
by river only.

Canoes may be launched anywhere upstream but the closest accesses are Turner
Mill about 5 miles and McDowell Primitive Access about 2 miles above Barn
Hollow. The nearest takeout point below this camp is Whitten Access, about 1.3
miles.

This small, remote campground and picnic area located at the site of a
Civilian Conservation Corps camp of 1937 provides a quiet setting for escaping
from your normal routine. With just 8 individual campsites and a picnic
shelter, it is enjoyed by campers, picnickers, mountain bikers, equestrians,
and hikers.  

The Berryman Trail leaves from this recreation area, and traverses 24 miles of
scenic Ozark countryside and winding through timbered stands and fields. The
hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding offer one a pleasant measure of
solitude and quiet.

The western section of the trail also serves as part of the Courtois Section
of the Ozark Trail.

_**History of the Berryman CCC Camp**_

The Berryman CCC Camp, also known as Lost Creek, was home to the 3733rd
Company and was designated Camp Number F-MO-13.

The camp's initial construction began on May 29, 1935, under the command of
Lieutenant Charles C. Isely. Twelve men were selected from Company 732 at
Boss, Missouri to be the first enrollees of the 3733rd Company and were to be
in charge of the cooking, road work, and other work that required special
training.

The early camp conditions were described by Robert Fechner, author of What the
CCC Is and Does: Company 3733, Berryman, MO, as follows: "The men lived in one
of the uncompleted buildings for two weeks, cooking and eating in the open,
and in all enduring hardships that in the light of the present conditions,
seem unreal." The initial camp enrollees were tasked with "lifting the camp
out of the mud and brush" (Direct Advertising Company 1937:146). Presumably
this colorful language meant that the camp location was cleared of brush,
trees, and other vegetation and the landforms leveled so that construction of
buildings could begin.

By July 5, 1935, George E. Maness, Relief Director for Washington County,
directed that a total of 41 men and seven alternates between the ages of 18
and 28 on the county relief rolls were to be sent to the Berryman CCC Camp. A
total of 176 recruits arrived on July 5, 1935, to begin the construction of
the camp. Frank D. Crawford was assigned by the Forest Service to be Project
Superintendent and he arrived at the camp on July 9, 1935. The forestry office
was temporarily housed in the Camp Headquarters Building until the completion
of the Forestry Building in November 1935. The initial camp projects completed
were the construction of the camp road and the establishment of a telephone
line into the camp.

Between 1935 and 1937, the Berryman (Lost Creek) CCC Camp had "built over 50
miles of forest road, erected five steel fire lookout towers, built more than
40 miles of telephone line, planted approximately 320,000 pine trees, 280,000
black walnut trees and cleaned up several hundred acres of standing timber"
(Direct Advertising Company 1937:147).

In June of 1938, an open house for the general public was held at the Berryman
(Lost Creek) CCC Camp, at which over 5,000 people attended.

By 1942 and the participation of the United States in World War II, all
activities of the CCC were discontinued. It is likely that most of the
buildings, supplies, and materials from the Berryman (Lost Creek) CCC Camp
were removed and put to other uses. A series of foundation remnants remain in
the site area, which currently serves as a trailhead and campground.

Situated in an open pine forest, this area serves as one of 3 trailheads for
the 18-mile Big Piney Trail, which travels through the Paddy Creek Wilderness.

Designed as an equestrian camp, the area has a trail register station and 5
campsites accommodating horse trailers, with picnic tables, fire rings and
high line posts.

Hitching rails  available near the bathroom and a mounting block area is
available at the trail register station. A vault toilet is on site, but
drinking water is not available.

Boze Mill Float Camp, located on the Eleven Point National Scenic River, can
be accessed from the river or down a short path from a parking area.

Boze Mill Spring forms a sparkling blue pool which produces between 12-14
million gallons of water per day. Aquatic plants add many shades of green to
the spring branch. The historical 1880's turbine and hand-layered rock wall
from the Lucas Boze grist mill still exist today. Boze Mill is nestled in a
beautiful glen beside the Eleven Point River just above Riverton, and was once
an important center of commerce where farmers could get wheat and corn ground
into flour. Boze Mill Spring is 423 feet in elevation.

_**Campground:**_ Primitive dispersed camping is allowed. A vault toilet is
centrally located.

_**Canoeing:**_ This is a popular stopping point for people canoeing on the
Eleven Point River.

_**Fishing:**_ Wade or float fishing for bass, rainbow trout, and pan fish.
Wading occurs, but the extremely cold water and swift current may be
hazardous.

Travelers by road, park at the trailhead and can walk in to gain river access
and picnic. Tables and grills are available. If you are floating into the
camp, the access upriver is Whitten (FS), downriver is Riverton East (FS).

the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps camp of 1937 and winding through
timbered stands and fields. This section of the **Ozark Trail**is part of the
over 200 mile through-trail. Camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback
riding here offer the recreationist a pleasant measure of solitude and quiet.

The trailhead is located past the campsites, on the right-hand side, down a
short gravel path. You will need to cross a creek to get onto the trail.

The other two are KC Pavilion and Oak Camp. Riders can also access the trail
from Cobb Ridge Campground.

Cobb Ridge Campground is adjacent to the Chadwick Riding area, which is
popular among and off-road vehicles (dirt bikes; ATVs and side by sides 50
inches or less) enthusiasts. Numerous trails provide nearly 80 miles of
interconnecting loops that vary from easy to difficult terrain, winding in and
out of deep, forested hollows and down long ridge tops. Family and group
camping is available, providing access to Missouri's beautiful Mark Twain
National Forest.

## Recreation

Visitors to the area mostly come for the plentiful off-road vehicle trails
(motorcycle; ATVs and side by sides 50 inches or less). Some trail segments
are very rocky, steep, rough, rutted and are technically challenging, while
others that don't drain well have been built up with concrete. Hiking on the
trails is also permissible but requires caution. If using the trails, you will
need a Chadwick riding permit - they are available at our District office;
Casey's General Store in Sparta, MO. Cost is $60 for an annual; $10/day for
motorcycles, ATVs and side by sides. $3 for mountain bike. You will need
make/model and VIN# of vehicle along with rider information. The permit is
valid for the machine and cannot be transferred.

The Cobb Ridge Campground provides a variety of campsite sizes, styles,
development and locations. Single, double and triple camp units are designed
to accommodate groups of various sizes. Campsites include traditional back-in
units and easily maneuvered pull-through units; some with electrical hookups
and others with only basic facilities. Tent camping is also an option. At each
electric site, there are 30 and 50 amp service along with a 110 outlet.  
  
Most sites are fairly private, but some are close together and open enough to
promote visiting between other camps. Additional sites are available on a
first-come, first-served basis. When available, an on-site host is at the
campground.  
  
The sites are equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Flush
toilets, vault toilets, and showers are provided. Hydrants are located
throughout campground for all campers to use - no individual water hookups
available. Trash collection facilities are provided.  

## Natural Features

The Chadwick area is mostly forested with oak, hickory and pine woods on rocky
ridge tops, with a few small open forest glades. Steep ridges break into
narrow hollows with scattered surface rock and occasional rock ledges and
patches of eastern red cedar.

## Nearby Attractions

The campground is 30 miles from Springfield, Branson, Silver Dollar City and
Shepherd of the Hills attractions. Lake Taneycomo is 20 miles south of Cobb
Ridge.

## Overview

The Council Bluff Recreation Area is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the
outdoors. The Wild Boar Campground and sheltered picnic area, available for
individual families or large groups, is next to the largest lake in the Mark
Twain National Forest. The area provides ample opportunities for camping,
picnicking, hiking, fishing, swimming and more.

## Recreation

Boating is a popular pastime on the lake, but all boats on the lake must
operate at a no-wake speed. Visitors can access the water via the two boat
ramps located at the lake.  
  
Canoeing, swimming and fishing are also available. Anglers can expect a catch
of a variety of freshwater fish, including bass bluegills, catfish and
crappies.  
  
The 12-mile Council Bluff Trail encircles the lake, with spurs to the
campground. Hikers can enjoy scenic views of the lake and a look at the Mark
Twain wilderness.  
  
Waterfowl hunting is permitted on Council Bluff Lake and the nearby Enough
Fields provide upland game opportunities. A variety of wildlife makes its home
in the heavily wooded area.

## Facilities

The Wild Boar Ridge Campground offers multiple single-family, large group and
walk-in sites, available for tent and RV camping. Each is equipped with
tables, lantern posts and campfire rings or campfire circles, with grills.  
  
The large group sites can accommodate up to 50 people and a nearby picnic
pavilion can hold up to 75. The pavilion is paved, with a roof overhead and is
equipped with multiple tables and grills.  
  
Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Electricity is not
available, but some sites will accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length. Some
sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  
  
The beach provides accessible flush toilets, drinking water and coin-operated
showers. A small play area with a slide and climbing structure is adjacent to
the beach.

## Natural Features

Located in southern Missouri, the Council Bluff Lake was created by a dam
across Big River. It is 440 acres in size and 87 feet deep in some places.  
  
The Chapel Hill Beach is at the eastern end of the campground and provides
54,000 square-feet of sandy beach. Visitors can either walk or drive to the
lake.

Council Bluff Recreation Area

The Council Bluff Recreation Area, located next to the largest lake on the
Mark Twain National Forest, is perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the
outdoors. The area provides ample opportunities for camping, picnicking,
hiking, fishing, swimming and more.

The site is large and spread out, the campground and beach are about a 1 mile
hike apart, the hike/bike is downhill from the campground to the beach, but
uphill coming back.

Located in southern Missouri, the Council Bluff Lake was created by a dam
built across Big River. It is 440 acres in size and 87 feet deep in some
places.

The **Wild Boar Campground** and sheltered picnic area are available for
individual families or large groups.

The **Chapel Hill Beach** is at the eastern end of the campground and provides
1.25 acres of sandy beach. The beach is accessible via a short walkway from
the parking area.

**Boating and paddling** is a popular pastime on the lake, but all boats on
the lake must operate at a no-wake speed. Visitors can access the water via
the two boat ramps located at the lake.

**Fishing** is also available. Anglers can expect a catch of a variety of
freshwater fish, including bass, bluegills, catfish and crappies.

The 12-mile **Council Bluff Trail** encircles the lake, with spurs to the
campground. Hikers can enjoy scenic views of the lake and a look at the Mark
Twain wilderness. The Ozark Trail connects to the Council Bluff Trail at Trace
Creek mile 15.

**Waterfowl hunting** is allowed on Council Bluff Lake and the nearby Enough
Fields provide upland game opportunities. A variety of wildlife makes its home
in the heavily wooded area.

**In 2012** , The Mark Twain National Forest completed soil sampling in many
areas of Southeast Missouri lead mining area. A few recreation sites were
found to have elevated concentrations of lead, but there was not a clear trend
indicating where we would find lead.

In **Fall 2014** , we partnered with the Missouri Department of Natural
Resources to sample every campsite and day-use area at in the area for lead
(Pb) in surface soil and crushed rock, which led to the current action.

In the **Summer of 2015** , we capped contaminated areas at 100 campsites and
day use areas. The intent of this action is to reduce human contact with lead
in soils by putting down a layer of clean material that has low lead
concentrations. This project was a clean-up action under the Comprehensive
Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and is
categorized as a Time Critical Removal Action

The Forest Service plans to review the protectiveness of a CERLCA Time
Critical Removal Action after elevated levels of lead (Pb) were discovered.
This protectiveness review will allow us to determine if any additional work
needs to be conducted at these sites.

The risks of lead exposure at these sites are generally considered to be low,
especially if you are only at these sites a couple of times a year.

The Deer Leap Recreation Area is situated on the east bank of the Current
River, this site is not one of the busier campgrounds so is often a great
place to get away from the crowds. Expect some activity of outfitter-guides
utilizing the non-motorized launch in the campground, though. Deer Leap
provides primitive camping, a boat launch and floater access/tuber launch.

When you veer off the road, the boat launch is a short 80 yards from the Y.

When you head to the campground, the road follows the river for a short
distance before entering a stand of pines. The campground is shady and quiet.
There is a busy canoe/tubing launch in the center of the campground. This
campground is good for visitors who like a little privacy while camping.

equestrian trailhead of the 36-mile Cedar Creek Trail.  This area, located in
central Missouri near Fulton serves recreationists with or without horses.
This campground is situated in a quiet mostly oak/cedar forest.

It is comprised of 8 single primitive campsites that can accommodate RVs up to
30 feet in length, each with table, fire ring, and lantern post.  Other
amenities include drinking water, vault toilet~~s~~ , and hitching rails.
There is a picnic area across the road with picnic tables that can accommodate
small groups.

**The Float Camp Campground** is adjacent to the day use area. This is a
large, open campground with little privacy screening between campsites. While
there's not much solitude, but you'll enjoy level, roomy campsites and have a
good opportunity to socialize with adjacent campers. Trash cans or dumpsters
and vault toilets are centrally located. No sewage disposal is available.

**Hiking:** Woodchuck Trail is a half mile long trail connecting Float Camp
Picnic Area with the campground. White Oak Trail is a 1.5-mile loop trail
originating at the Float Camp Picnic Area's parking lot.

**Fishing:** Wade, bank and boat fishing permitted.

Mark Twain National Forest Seasonal parking passes are not accepted at this
site for day use or camping. There is a 50% discount for camping for anyone

launch parking. If you drive a little further you pass some campsites. At the
very end there is a loop where the toilet is, in the day use area.

The campground is surrounded by a oak, pine, and hickory forest. The campsites
are spaced out among the trees, to give some privacy.

stone house for his family, and also built the present wheel house to produce
electricity for his needs. Power was obtained by building a dam in a semi-
circle below a large spring forming a small pond. The water was to pour
through a chute on the wheel to produce electricity; however, electricity
arrived to the site before the wheel ever needed to do its job. The area had
an undershot wheel providing power to a grist mill in the late 19th century.

## Recreation

The Black River boasts bass, sunfish, walleye and catfish. Many anglers fish
from boats, but others fish from the riverbanks. Canoeing and kayaking is also
possible on the river. Various day hikes within the Markham Springs Trail
System are accessible from the campground. Eagle Bluff Trail is a one and a
half mile loop along the river, where birding and wildlife viewing are
favorite pastimes. The day use area has a two-acre, 20 foot deep mill pond
that dates back to the 1800s, several picnic sites, open fields; river access
for boating, fishing and float tubes and canoes; and short hiking trails that
provide views of the river, the pond, the springs and the uplands.

## Facilities

The house has two downstairs bedrooms with queen beds, a single bed and a
shared bathroom. Upstairs has a bathroom and three bedrooms each with a bunk
bed and twin bed. The kitchen comes fully furnished as well as all the other
rooms; however, you must bring your own linens, pillows and towels.

## Natural Features

Located adjacent to the Black River, the recreation area contains a small pond
that dates back to the 1800s. The area is covered by a dense forest of
colorful trees, including ash, elm, maple and poplar. Six springs pour almost
five million gallons of water per day into the pond, and the bubble spring, a
smaller outlet of Markham Spring outside of the pond that has air with it
which rises in the soft sand forming unique air bubbles.

The Fuchs House is located in the Markham Springs Recreation Area. Camping
with both electric sites and primitive sites, day use, and pavilion rental is
available. The town of Williamsville is three miles from the Fuchs House and
offers a general store ad fuel station.

The Greenbriar Float Camp is located on the left side of the Eleven Point
National Scenic River. This is a primitive dispersed campsite with a pit
toilet. This float camp is located 2.9 miles downriver of the Whitten access.
The next access downriver is Riverton.

<p>The Greenbriar Float Camp is located on the left side of the <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21676">Eleven Point National Scenic River</a>. This is a primitive dispersed campsite with a pit toilet. This float camp is located 2.9 miles downriver of the <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21694">Whitten</a> access. The next access downriver is <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21702">Riverton</a>.</p>

Greenbriar Float Camp

A you exit the highway, the campground is located to the left with campsites
located off of a loop road that circles through the campground. If you stay
straight you will get to the boat launch and day use area.

This campground is primarily used by people using the river. It's a nice flat,
level area immediately adjacent to the highway.

This campground is a hub that puts you in the vicinity of Greer Mill, Greer
Spring, and numerous other historic mills and springs. There are several
historic sites in the area also. These sites are not within walking distance,
but are a reasonable drive away along Highway 19.

When you access the site from the river, it will be located on the right-hand
side.

### Camping

The campground is set back away from the water's edge. A campground host is on
site in the summer. Sites, which offer seclusion and privacy, each with a
table, fire ring, and lantern post.

### Picnicking and Boating

A picnic area is near the boat access. The boating access is one of the most
popular launch sites for people floating the Eleven Point.

### Hiking

There is one trail available for hikers; a 4-mile trail that follows the river
and through typical Ozark hills up to McCormack Lake then circles back for a 2
mile walk back to Greer. This trail runs along the river and then back along
the hillside above the river.

### Fishing

Fishing is plentiful, there are rainbow trout, small mouth bass, and sunfish,
just to name a few.

Hazel Creek is in a remote area without cell phone service.  This primitive
campground is popular with OHV/ATV riders, equestrians, and mountain bikers.

There is a trailhead for the Ozark Trail is on the road leading into the
campground.

Hazel Creek is part of the Old Lead Belt, where much of the nation's lead ore
was once mined. This site features a foundation from a historic lead smelter.

The Trail of Tears National Historic Trail goes through the site.

Forest Order 09-05-19-03: Palmer Lead Smelter Area

Horseshoe Bend Float Camp is a primitive float camp located on the left side
of Eleven Point National Scenic River. The camp is located 9.5 miles downriver
of Greer Crossing. Access to the camp is by river only, the nearest put-in
upriver is McDowell. There are 5 primitive campsites available.

The nearest take-out downriver is Whitten.

<p style="margin-left:7.55pt;">Horseshoe Bend Float Camp is a primitive float camp located on the left side of <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21676">Eleven Point National Scenic River</a>. Lane Spring Recreation Area provides a peaceful setting along Little Piney
Creek and a scenic patio overlooking beautiful Lane Spring. A large,
accessible picnic area with two pavilions can be reserved. The site has
multiple first come first serve campsites if an overnight stay is desired. A
variety of outdoor recreation opportunities are in the area.

## Recreation

Trout fishing is popular along the portion of the creek nearest Lane Spring,
as it is managed by a wild trout fishery. The fish population is self-
sustained instead of being stocked. Only artificial lures and flies may be
used, and a daily limit is applied of one trout measuring 18 inches or longer.
Bass and sunfish are also plentiful.  
  
The 1.25-mile Blossom Rock Trail and the 1.5-mile Cedar Bluff Trail traverse
through lush bottomland vegetation with abundant wildflowers, before climbing
to views of the river and rock outcroppings. Birding and wildlife viewing is
popular along the trails.

## Facilities

The recreation area offers a picnic area with two group picnic pavilions, each
equipped with tables, grills and electric outlets. Each can accommodate up to
100 people. If unreserved, the pavilions are available on a first-come, first-
served basis. Each pavillion has 10-20 parking spots with handicap accessible
paths to pavillions. These parking spots are not reservable, however there are
additional parking spaces that have access to the spring. Additional
individual picnic sites are available near the spring. Several family
campsites are available as well. Each site is equipped with a table, lantern
post and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are
provided.

campsites available. A beautiful hardwood forest covers the area, which lies
in the northwestern portion of the Mark Twain National Forest.

catfish. The Day Use area has a small swim beach, boat ramp, picnic tables,
and grills.

The campground area is located on the southeast lakeshore and all sites have a
view of the lake, with only light vegetation in between. There are 14 sites
with each site offering a table, fire ring, tent pad, and some offer lantern
posts. Drinking water and vault toilets are centrally located. There are two
boat ramps, and a barrier-free fishing pier. Group camping is available at Oak
Knoll.

Loggers Lake Recreation Area

Marble Creek, which travels through the National Forest for about 20 miles, is
named for its colorful deposits of dolomite, which was mined and used as "Taum
Sauk Marble" many years ago.  

The mineral dolomite is the main component of the sedimentary rock that is
also called dolomite. It is similar to the mineral calcite but contains
magnesium as well as calcium. Just based on looks, the rock dolomite is often
impossible to distinguish from limestone, which is composed mainly of calcite.

Previously, a grist mill operated in the area operated until 1935. Remains of
the grist mill dam and building are still visible today.

The site is remote, with the nearest town about 20 minutes away and there is
no cell service.

This is a great campground to visit if you are looking for a quiet visit to
the forest. This is also a great place for swimming and fishing. Campsites are
shaded by the tall trees around the area. There are several Creekside sites
available.

Located in the campground is the main trailhead for the Marble Creek Section
of the Ozark Trail. The trailhead is across highway D, directly across from
the campground entrance.

but others fish from the riverbanks. Canoeing and kayaking is also possible on

the campground. Eagle Bluff Trail is a 1.5-mile loop along the river, where

MARKHAM SPRINGS

Markham Springs

Located adjacent to the Black River, the Markham Springs Recreation Area
contains bubbly springs and a small 2-acre pond that dates back to the 1800s.
The area is covered by a dense forest of colorful trees, including ash, elm,
maple and poplar. Six springs pour almost 5 million gallons of water a day
into the pond, from there the water eventually makes it's way to the Black
River. The bubble spring, a smaller outlet of Markham Spring outside of the
pond area, has air with it, rises in soft sand forming the unique "air
bubbles".

This area gets its name from former owner, M. J. Markham, who acquired the
property in 1901 and operated a lumber mill at the site until the 1930s.

The Fuchs House, a five-bedroom concrete and native stone home, also sits on
the property, along with a neighboring mill. The historic Fuchs house was
restored by a group of craftsmen under permit from the National Forest.

In the late 1930's, Rudolph Fuchs built a 5-bedroom concrete and native stone
house for his family, and also built the present wheel house to produce
electricity for his needs. Power was obtained by building a dam in a semi-
circle below a large spring forming a small pond. The water was to pour
through a chute on the wheel to produce electricity; however electricity
arrived to the site before the wheel ever needed to do its job. The area had
an undershot wheel providing power to a grist mill in the late 19th century.

River and stream fishing are popular activities near the campground. The Black
River boasts bass, sunfish, walleye and catfish. Many anglers fish from boats,
but others fish from the riverbanks. Canoeing and kayaking is also possible on
the river.

Markham Springs Recreation Area provides opportunities for camping, hiking,

Markham Springs Recreation Area

Visitors to McCormack Lake, Beaver Lake, and Markham Springs mill pond may
notice lower water levels than normal. Be aware that lowering of water levels
can leave slick mud or other trip hazards that aren’t normally encountered.
Please be extra careful walking around the edge of the lakes during periods of
drawdown.

Mark Twain National Forest will conduct assessments and needed repairs on
control structures when the water is lowered. Invasive aquatic plants will
also be removed, improving fish habitat.

No long-term closures at these sites are planned at this time; but some
temporary closures may occur during times when heavy equipment is in
operation. If heavy equipment is operating, stay a safe distance away and
follow closure signage for your safety.

<p>Visitors to McCormack Lake, Beaver Lake, and Markham Springs mill pond may notice lower water levels than normal. Be aware that lowering of water levels can leave slick mud or other trip hazards that aren’t normally encountered. Please be extra careful walking around the edge of the lakes during periods of drawdown.</p><p>Mark Twain National Forest will conduct assessments and needed repairs on control structures when the water is lowered. Invasive aquatic plants will also be removed, improving fish habitat.</p><p>No long-term closures at these sites are planned at this time; but some temporary closures may occur during times when heavy equipment is in operation. If heavy equipment is operating, stay a safe distance away and follow closure signage for your safety.</p>

**_Hiking -_** There is hiking at McCormack Lake Recreation Area. This is a
trailhead in McCormack Lake Day Use Area for the 1.07-mileMcCormack Lake spur
trail, which connects to the Eleven Point River Section of the Ozark Trail and
the Lazy C Trail.

**_Fishing and Boating -_** The 15-acre lake is stocked annually with panfish
and bass being the catch of the day. During the warm months the vegetation in
the lake can make fishing and boating difficult. The lake is a non-motorized
area; boat motors are not allowed. An electric trolling motor is permitted.
There is ample parking for picnickers and fishermen.

**_Camping -_** The campground is primitive with limited picnic tables,
firerings and lantern posts. A vault toilet is provided. No water is
available.

from Morgan Spring. This camp is 7.7 miles downriver of Riverton. Footpaths
lead from the float camp to Morgan and Blue Springs.

There are three campsites available on a first come basis at this primitive
site. The vault toilet is located just up the trail from the campsites.

From this float camp the next take out is at Hwy 142 Access.

Old Thomasson Mill Spring was the original name for this beautiful spring back
in the days when a small grist mill by that name stood nearby. The area
contains unique geographic landforms and associated deep blue, mineral rich
springs that add 140 million gallons of brisk 58° water to the Eleven Point
River daily.   The site has a colorful history.  Thomasson water mill operated
along the Morgan Spring branch until the early 1900's and B.B. Morgan operated
an aquaculture business that provided millions of aquarium plants all around
the world.

All of this beauty could have been at the bottom of a lake if the Army Corps.
had not met such fiery opposition from Morgan and others who wanted to
preserve the Eleven Point River for posterity. The Eleven Point River was
protected by the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, and the Narrows
property entered into Forest Service ownership in 1972.

The Mark Twain National Forest manages this site to protect natural features,
preserve historical aspects, and provide for a enjoyable user experience.

Morgan Spring Float Camp

## Overview

Noblett Lake Picnic Pavilion provides a sheltered place among forests, streams
and wildlife, for groups to picnic near Noblett Lake. It is a great location
for birding, canoeing and boating.

## Recreation

Noblett Lake is a popular location for boating, canoeing and fishing. Only
electric trolling motors or non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake.  
  
Visitors enjoy the day-use picnic area and the Ridge Runner Trail, a 22-mile
remote path that loops hikers through the scenic Ozark Mountains.

## Facilities

The pavilion offers seating for up to 75 people. If over 75 people, a special
use permit is required; please contact Tray Hall at 417-967-4194. It is
equipped with electricity, tables and grills. There is a vault toilet. Trash
collection services are provided. There is no water available; visitors must
bring their own. There is no overnight camping allowed in the day use area.
Dispersed camping (no amenities provided) is allowed in area across from
Noblett Trailhead (old Oak Hill camping area) and below dam (old Sycamore Loop
camping area). A parking area for the pavilion and the adjacent trail is
available.

The pavilion is set in a forest of oak and pine trees, on the Salem Plateau.
It is near Noblett Lake and south of the town of Willow Springs.

North Fork Recreation Area provides camping, picnicking, boating, canoeing,
hiking and fishing access to the beautiful North Fork of the White River,
which has a total of nine major springs flowing into it.

As you drive into the site, the first right takes you to the boat access area.
If you go straight you'll hit a t-intersection, if you go left you enter the
campground, if you go right you enter the day use.

The site is surrounded by an oak/hickory forest, there are a lot of tulip
poplar and sycamore in that area.

From the day use area, and sometimes the campground, you have amazing views
looking across the river of the mixed hardwood and pine forest and the rock
bluffs that envelope the river. On the other side of the river is the
beginning of the Devils Backbone Wilderness Area. Some sites have views of the
river before trees and bushes leaf out.

North Fork Recreation Area serves as trailhead for the 35-mile long **Ridge
Runner National Recreation Trail** and the **Blue Spring Trail**.

There are multiple springs that contribute to the river, one of the largest is
Blue Spring, which contributes around 7 million gallons  of cold, clear water
every day to the river. Near North Fork, from the river you can paddle up into
Blue Spring or hike the Blue Spring Trail. The spring is about 30 feet in
diameter. One three sides, the stone wall is made of cherty Gasconade dolomite
that surrounds the spring and represents the karst topography of Ozarks.

This is one of the three trailheads for the Chadwick Trail System. The other
two are KC Pavilion and Camp Ridge. Riders can also access the trail from Cobb
Ridge Campground.

<p>This is one of the three trailheads for the <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21762">Chadwick Trail System</a>. The other two are <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=84209">KC Pavilion</a> and <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=84210">Camp Ridge</a>. Riders can also access the trail from <a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21744">Cobb Ridge Campground</a>.</p>

Oak Camp Trailhead

This campground is near the Paddy Creek Wilderenss Area.  It is just a short
drive or walk from the Paddy Creek Recreation Area's picnic and day use site.
At the day-use site, there is a trailhead to enter into the Paddy Creek
Wilderness Area.  

The campground is usually open from April 1 through December 1 each year.

This area is perfectly located one hour southwest of Rolla and only an hour
drive from Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, Paddy Creek Campground is nestled in a
hollow along Paddy Creek, a major tributary to Big Piney River, just a few
miles away.  Paddy Creek flows year-round and is a crystal clear, wading creek
with a few swimming holes. This is one of the most scenic areas on the Mark
Twain National Forest.  Paddy Creek Trail offers several spectacular scenic
overlooks.  Located adjacent to the east boundary of the Paddy Creek
Wilderness, which offers hiking and dispersed camping opportunities.

surface and is accessible. The entire trail is relatively flat, with no
difficult sections. Circling the 32-acre lake, the trail provides views of the
lake, songbirds and wildlife, and an abundance of wildflowers.  
  
The lake offers a floating fishing pier and a concrete boat ramp. Anglers can
enjoy fishing for bass, sunfish and catfish.

## Facilities

The day-use picnic shelter can accommodate up to 75 people. It is equipped
with tables and large grills. Accessible vault toilets are provided. Trash
collection service is not available; visitors must carry out all garbage.

The lake is located on the southeastern quadrant of the Mark Twain National
Forest. The area is densely wooded.

Pinewoods Lake Recreation Area

Red Bluff Campground is named for towering red bluffs along Huzzah Creek,
carved by the elements over the past 10,000 years. The area used to be home to
timber mills, but now provides a serene spot for camping and enjoying nature.

Early settlement of the area surrounded the Boyer Mill constructed around
1830. Railroads created a thriving timber industry till the supply was
depleted. The land was purchased by the U.S. Forest Service in 1940 and has
been used as a recreation area.

Red Bluff is located in the Potosi-Fredericktown Ranger District of the Mark
Twain National Forest. Large, red bluffs on the opposite side of Huzzah Creek,
gravel bars along the creek, a mixture of pools and riffles and natural
vegetation provide a backdrop for a very relaxing camping experience. Wading
and swimming in Huzzah Creek are enjoyed by visitors. The water can be swift-
moving at times and rocks and drop-offs are not marked. Fishing is also
popular in the area and anglers can expect to find bass, sunfish, suckers, and
catfish.

Three new camping loops were constructed above the Huzzah Creek floodplain –
Ridge Top Loop, Creek Loop, and Group Loop - each of which have modern
restrooms, water, and electricity on 2023.

A new shower house, a dump station, and second pavilion were also added for
visitor convenience. Camping spurs are variable in size and layout to
accommodate recreational vehicles and trailers of all types.

A fourth camping loop, Pines Overlook, was renovated but remains a non-
electric loop.

## Recreation

Many sites are within 200 yards of Huzzah Creek, where tubing and swimming are
enjoyed by visitors. The water can be swift-moving at times and rocks and
drop-offs are not marked. Fishing is also popular in the area and anglers can
expect to find bass, perch and catfish.

1.2-mile loop that winds through a pine plantation and big oak timber, into an
adjoining hollow before returning to the campground. The short trail provides
an opportunity for visitors to enjoy a variety of ecological communities,
while reaping the benefits of a half-hour of hiking.

## Facilities

The campground offers several large sites available for tent and RV camping.
All campground loops offer 30 amp & 50 amp pedestals, except for Pines
Overlook (PO). Individual picnic sites are available as well, some of which
have shelters. Two accessible group picnic shelters can be reserved and can
accommodate up to 74 people (PAV 1 has electric and lighting). Additional
sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  
Each site is equipped with a picnic table, lantern post and campfire ring with
grill. Vault toilets, flush toilets, showers and drinking water are provided.
The roads within the campground are paved.

<p>The campground offers several large sites available for tent and RV camping. All campground loops offer 30 amp & 50 amp pedestals, except for Pines Overlook (PO). Individual picnic sites are available as well, some of which have shelters. Two accessible group picnic shelters can be reserved and can accommodate up to 74 people (PAV 1 has electric and lighting). Additional sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. <br>Each site is equipped with a picnic table, lantern post and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets, flush toilets, showers and drinking water are provided. The roads within the campground are paved.</p>
<h2>Natural Features</h2>
Large, red bluffs on the opposite side of Huzzah Creek, gravel bars along the creek, a mixture of pools and riffles and natural vegetation provide a backdrop for a very relaxing camping experience at the campground. Red Bluff is located in the Potosi-Fredericktown Ranger District of the Mark Twain National Forest.
