Lassen Volcanic National Park is home to steaming fumaroles, meadows freckled with wildflowers, clear mountain lakes, and numerous volcanoes. Jagged peaks tell the story of its eruptive past while hot water continues to shape the land.

Directions

From Interstate 5 (Redding), take Hwy 44 - 48 miles east to the junction of Hwy 89. Follow Hwy 89 south 1 mile to the north entrance of the park. From Interstate 5 (Red Bluff) take Hwy 36 E - 51 miles east to the junction of Hwy 89. Follow Hwy 89 north 6 miles to south entrance of the park.

There is a stretch of gravel road here that can get dusty, so try to pick a spot as far away from the main road as possible.

Really enjoyed our visit to Lassen and Summit South Campground!! Our site was perfect, with lots of space. It's pit toilets, but surprisingly clean. It's centrally located to great hiking on 89. We enjoyed floating on the lake in the afternoon and walking around it in the evening. We came mid-week in August and loved that it wasn't overcrowded. Would highly recommend this park and campground!

We had the best time. The lake was very easy to get to from the campsite. The camp store and showers were also super easy to get to. Definitely check out the museum and visitors center. The kids were able to learn about the different types of volcanic rocks and we found out that there was a lave tube hike nearby.

Wonderful family camping trip despite the open fire ban which we completely understood. Disappointed though campers in loop D ( we were in loop C) on our last night did have a fire in the late evening. Reported it next morning to ranger station. Can’t with to camp here again.
