Katmai National Park & Preserve

Fure's Cabin is a great place to stay in a scenic location. The care, skill and extensive hard labor required to build it will impress you. We used it as a base for day trips to Brooks Camp. The downside is that sometimes the weather does not cooperate, so be prepared for extended cabin time. Fortunately, the weather was generally good and the morning fog burned off by noon.

Fure's cabin is awesome. We had two nights there and the day between was very stormy so we were thrilled to be in the cabin and not our tents. Beautiful place. Outhouse roof needs a little work. Two big bunks, which could fit two cozy people each, else the floor is pretty good.

Beautiful, historic cabin. Great spot to stage out of with a floatplane to access Brooks Lodge after the crowds have left for the day. Nice sandy spot about 60 yards to the west to beach the floatplane. Just a few submerged rocks. Very special cabin.

An incredible place. We spent three nights at the cabin and enjoyed every minute of it. We didn’t know what to expect and every of our expectations were exceeded. The cabin is top notch with bunk bed, table, wood burning stove, pots and pans and everything you need. The location is incredible with plenty of hiking to do around the cabin. If you want to turn off and recharge I can only recommend the cabin. It is a truly unique experience you will not find anywhere else.

Fure’s Cabin is remote, beautiful, and oh so cozy. The Portage trail is not very difficult and takes you to the amazing Grosvenor!

Gorgeous views and the most amazing sunset site of any rec.gov cabin we've been at! Easy walk up hill from rocky area boats use to tie up. With a small float plane, we opted to tie off on safer small beach shore down a bit longer trail from cabin. Note, sprinkling of very large submerged rocks at beach site, too. Took a lot of jumping in to maneuver and tie down ropes (100+ ft total tied on multiple angles from plane to trees) to safely secure overnight and slowly taxi in/out loaded. Doable with time and care. Saw resident bear folks have noted in cabin log book. It was walking beach and waterfront shore early morning. Lots of fresh prints. Cabin secure despite 2 broken windows with tape patching. Wood stove worked well to dry out our gear with minimum wood and banked coals overnight well. Note only a small hand saw for cutting more wood. We arrived to virtually none and left more. Old open water jugs at cabin. We filtered our own. Lantern provided was broken. We brought our own solar lantern and flashlights. Wonderful historic wall display, interesting cabin guest journal, deck of cards onsite.
