Grulla National Wildlife Refuge was officially established as a refuge when
the lands were transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from the
Bureau of Land Management in 1969. The refuge is 3,236 acres of which the
majority is a salt lake. The refuge is a protected roost site for lesser
sandhill cranes and provides quality winter habitat for migratory waterfowl.

Grulla is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, a national network of
lands and water set aside and managed for the benefit of wildlife, habitat and
you.
