watercraft coming downriver from Boat Ramp #1.

Hiking opportunities accessed from the Pumphouse Recreation Area provide ample
access for wade fishing and exploring along the Colorado River.

The Gore Canyon Trail is open to foot travel only providing access upriver for
1.5 miles. Keep an eye out for the historic retaining walls holding the trail
in place that early surveyors of Gore Canyon and homesteaders developed to
access this area of the river for finding a railroad route and efforts to
divert water for irrigation.

The Gore Canyon Ranch Trail is open to foot travel only and provides access
downriver for 1.25 miles connecting to the Gore Canyon Ranch Trailhead and
Parking Area. This undeveloped area was the site of a homestead ranch and was
acquired by the BLM to improve public access, restore habitat for wildlife and
provide educational opportunities on the area’s history, wildlife and
responsible recreation opportunities.

The historic Argentine Trail is open to foot travel only and is accessed from
the Gore Canyon Ranch Trail. This trail is not for the lighthearted as it has
steep drop offs from a trail that was blasted into the cliffs of Hartman
Canyon. Those floating down stream can see this trail high up the canyon wall
on river left.

The Upper Colorado River Recreation Area spans a unique and beautiful
landscape, known for its diverse water features, abundant wildlife, and
cultural landscapes along the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway. There
are many notable segments of the Upper Colorado River Area, but the popular
Pumphouse Recreation Area offers camping opportunities. This area combines
calm boating waters through heritage ranchlands with more challenging rapids

<p>The Upper Colorado River Recreation Area spans a unique and beautiful landscape, known for its diverse water features, abundant wildlife, and cultural landscapes along the Colorado River Headwaters Scenic Byway. There are many notable segments of the Upper Colorado River Area, but the popular <a href="https://www.blm.gov/visit/pumphouse-recreation-area" rel="nofollow">Pumphouse Recreation Area</a> offers camping opportunities. This area combines calm boating waters through heritage ranchlands with more challenging rapids in the intervening canyons.</p>

<p><strong>Please be aware of dangerous rapids and practice </strong><a href="https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit/know-before-you-go/water-safety" rel="nofollow">water safety</a>.</p>

Upper Colorado River Recreation Area

The Wolford Mountain Area is located adjacent to and north of the Town of
Kremmling and to the east of Wolford Mountain Reservoir. It offers 120 miles
of designated roads and trails for motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs and full-size
4-wheel-drive vehicles. Prominent features include an open OHV play area;
Wolford and Little Wolford mountains; Gunsight Pass; and the Kremmling
Creataceous Ammonite Locality. The area is closed to motorized use from
December 15 to April 15 annually to protect big game in their winter habitat.

the Wolford Mountain Special Recreation Management Area. Motorized use is
restricted to designated routes only. Some routes are open only to certain
types of vehicles – signs indicate allowable uses. Motorized use is prohibited
from December 15 through April 15 for the protection of wildlife and their
habitat during the winter and spring. You can obtain a free copy of the
Wolford Mountain Travel Management Area Map and additional information from
the Kremmling Field office.

  
**Cretaceous Ammonite ACEC**

> Fossil collection is prohibited at this site, where the fossils of more than
> 100 invertebrate species can be found. The Kremmling Cretaceous Ammonite
> Locality takes visitors 72.5 million years back in time where they can view
> well-preserved specimens of tropical and subtropical mollusk fossils. Even
> the smallest rocks may contain scientifically and educationally valuable
> finds. This area has the highest concentration of such fossils in the world
> and is perfect for avid fossil enthusiasts as well as those visiting for the
> first time.
