The East Park Dam and reservoir, of the Orland Project, is situated in the
rolling foothills of the Mendocino National Forest on Little Stony Creek. In
2013, Reclamation entered a partnership with Colusa County for long-term
management of the recreation facilities and opportunities at East Park
Reservoir. The County accepts reservations and issues passes for camping, boat
launches, groups, special recreation events and day use for the reservoir area

include blacktail deer, black bear, quail, dove, and wild turkey. For
wildflower enthusiasts, pockets of the rare Indian Valley Brodiaea and Adobe
Lily can be found within the area.

The nearby Indian Valley Reservoir provides an excellent locale for fishing,
boating, and swimming, although the water level can drop quite low in the
summertime, and boats are limited to 10 MPH on the lake (5 MPH within 200
yards of shore). Yolo County offers a for-fee RV campground near the dam. For
specific information about the reservoir and campground, contact Yolo County
at (530) 662-0265. Indian Valley Management Area is part of the Berryessa Snow
Mountain Monument administered by BLM's Ukiah Field Office.

Directions: From Highway 20, go north on Walker Ridge Road 5.4 miles to "T"
intersection. Turn left and proceed 2.4 miles to campground.

**Kowalski Camp** is on the west shore and is primitive camping with no
developed facilities. This is hike-in or boat-in access only.

Directions: From Highway 20, go north on Walker Ridge Road 5.4 miles to "T"
intersection. Turn left and proceed 4 miles to Indian Valley Reservoir. To
hike to site, cross Indian Valley dam to trailhead. Hike 2.5 miles to
campsites. To boat to site, proceed northwest approximately 1 mile to site.

habitat for migratory birds and other wildlife, provide habitat and manage for
endangered, threatened, or sensitive species, and alleviate crop depredation.
Historically, the area of the refuge was known as the Colusa Plains which was
a vacant, windswept plain with short grasses, shrubs and forbs. In January
1937, the federal government purchased 10,775-acre Spalding Ranch and
christened it the Sacramento Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. From 1937-1942 the
Civilian Conservation Corp's (CCC) "Camp Sacramento" housed up to 200 men at
the current headquarters area. The men constructed levees, water control
structures, and delivery ditches to create and sustain wetlands across the
majority of the refuge. Mosquito bitten, sunburned, dust-choked men worked
non-stop even on 100-degree days to create the refuge.

Today, the refuge is known as the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge and it
functions as the headquarters for the entire Sacramento National Wildlife
Refuge Complex. The refuge supports over 250 species of birds. Most notable
are the huge wintering concentrations (November - January) with regular peaks
of over 500,000 ducks and 250,000 geese. Raptor numbers swell as the waterfowl
numbers increase, including bald eagles and peregrine falcons. Waterfowl
viewing is good between October and March. In addition, shorebird numbers peak
in the spring and fall, while some waterfowl and numerous migratory songbird
species nest here during the summer. Many birds and mammals provide year-round
viewing.
