Crawford Reservoir was created by Crawford Dam which crosses Iron Creek, a
tributary of the Smith Fork of the Gunnison River. The reservoir is part of

Rock Natural Area, 3.5 miles east-northeast of the Town of Crawford in Delta
County, Colorado, United States. It stands 800 feet tall above the floor of

can enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities. There are several hiking and
mountain biking trails nearby, as well as opportunities for OHV use, including
ATV and motorcycle routes. Also, the ranger station has a horse barn and small
corral, offering the opportunity for horseback riding. The Uncompahgre
Wilderness is adjacent to the Ranger Station and a trailhead to Uncompahgre
Peak (a popular 14'er) is only a mile away.

can enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities. There are several hiking and

Black Bear Cabin was constructed in the 1930s, where rangers worked for years

Colorado, and plenty of canoeing, mountain biking and fishing activities are
within reach. From mid-August through October, guests can enjoy fall colors

Matterhorn Campground is located along the San Juan Skyway (Colorado Highway
145), near the quaint town of Telluride, at an elevation of 8,500 feet.
Visitors enjoy the area for its beautiful scenery, hiking and off-road
opportunities.

## Recreation

The Galloping Goose Trail #449 can be accessed from the campground. This
8.4-mile trail leads past a restored train trestle, over two trail bridges and
along segments of the historic Rio Grande Southern Railway. The trail is open
to hiking, biking and horseback riding.  
  
Many scenic driving routes, both paved and off-road, can be found in the area.
Additional hiking trails crisscross the surrounding mountains. Lizard Head
Wilderness is about 3 miles from the campground.

Just north of Montrose in west-central Colorado lies the Gunnison Gorge
National Conservation Area (NCA), a diverse landscape ranging from adobe
badlands to rugged pinyon and juniper-covered slopes. At the heart of the NCA,
the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness Area encompasses a spectacular black granite and
red sandstone double canyon formed by the Gunnison River. The NCA consists of
62,844 acres of public land managed by the BLM Uncompahgre Field Office under
the 2004 Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan
(9.2MB download). Initially designated through the Black Canyon of the
Gunnison National Park and Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area Act of
1999 (Public Law 106-76), the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Boundary Revision
Act of 2003 (Public Law 108-128) expanded the NCA from 57,725 acres to its
current size of 62,844 acres. The Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area
encompasses Gunnison Gorge Wilderness, Flat Top-Peach Valley, and Gunnison
River Recreation Area. The river cuts a wide path through the breathtaking

challenging whitewater boating, also features world class gold medal trout
