## Overview

Bonita Canyon Campground is located in Chiricahua National Monument, also
known as the "Wonderland of Rocks". Visitors love Chiricahua for its stunning
rock columns (hoodoos), hiking trails, and bird watching opportunities.

**NOTE:** **Vehicles and RV's longer than 24 feet are NOT permitted on the
scenic drive beyond the campground. Trailers are not permitted on the Scenic

Birders frequent this site for the diversity of species that reside in or
migrate through the area. Enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and

Point, the end of the 8-mile (13 km), paved scenic drive. No backcountry
camping is permitted in the park. The Coronado National Forest surrounds
Chiricahua and may offer dispersed or other camping opportunities as well as
reservations for developed campgrounds.

Visitors may explore Faraway Ranch , originally the Erickson family pioneer
homestead, converted into a 20th century guest ranch by the family daughters

For nearly 25 years, Fort Bowie stood at the crossroads of the Chiricahua
Apache's fight to defend their ancestral homeland and the U.S. Army's westward
expansion. Today, visitors embark on a 3-mile scenic loop trail traversing the
ground where this profound cultural collision forever altered the course of
both American and Indigenous history.

For nearly 25 years, Fort Bowie stood at the crossroads of the Chiricahua Apache's fight to defend their ancestral homeland and the U.S. Army's westward expansion. Fort Bowie National Historic Site

Approximately 500,000 acres of public land in the San Simon Valley provide
diverse recreational opportunities. In addition, the Hot Well Dunes Recreation
Area is located in the heart of the San Simon Valley. This Special Recreation
Management Area provides unique opportunities for off-highway vehicle riding
and hot-water soaking. Wildlife species in the area include quail, dove, deer,
and javelina.

the Bureau of Land Management. In 1990, the Dos Cabezas Mountains Wilderness
became part of the now over 109 million acre National Wilderness Preservation
System established by the Wilderness Act of 1964. In wilderness, you can enjoy
challenging recreational activities and extraordinary opportunities for
solitude. Please follow the regulations in place for this area, and use Leave
No Trace techniques when visiting to ensure protection of its unique natural
and experiential qualities. Motorized equipment and equipment used for
mechanical transport are generally prohibited on all federal lands designated
as wilderness. This includes the use of motor vehicles (including OHVs),
motorboats, bicycles, hang gliders, wagons, carts, portage wheels, and the
landing of aircraft including helicopters Contact the agency for more
information about regulations. Some lands adjacent to the wilderness are not
federally administered. Please respect the property rights of the owners and
