The majority of Blackwoods' sites are for small and large tents; other sites

## Overview

**Duck Harbor campsites are reservable starting on April 1st at 10:00am ET.**
Duck Harbor Campground is located on Isle au Haut, a rugged island off the
coast of Stonington, Maine. Remote and inaccessible to automobiles, Isle au
Haut is linked to the mainland by mailboat.

## Recreation

Isle au Haut offers excellent hiking. The remoteness of the island provides a
quiet experience along primitive trails with many great views of rocky cliffs
and coastal scenery. Bicycling is allowed but is very rigorous, on loose rock,
and unpaved road. No trail biking. You must bring your own mountain bike.
Bicycles can only be unloaded at the Town Dock. No bicycles may be loaded or
unloaded at Duck Harbor Landing.

## Facilities

This small campground contains five campsites. Each campsite has a fire ring,
picnic table, and a lean-to shelter which is three-sided with roof and floor.
Dimensions are 8' tall, 8' deep, and 12.5' wide. Use of tents is limited to
what can fit inside the shelters. There are three composting toilets at the
campground and a hand pump for non-potable water located 0.3 miles from
campground.  
  
  
  
There is a ranger station 4 miles from the campground but only 0.3 miles from
the Isle au Haut Town Landing. The ranger station is open mid-May to mid-
October, when there are rangers on Isle au Haut for the season. While the
rangers are typically out in the field and not at the ranger station during
most of the day, the lobby remains open, allowing visitors access to maps,
reading material, water, and the only public restroom in town. **Boat service
to Duck Harbor is limited at the beginning and end of the season. Please
review the Need to Know section**.

## Natural Features

Isle au Haut provides opportunities to explore rocky shorelines, wooded
uplands, marshes, bogs, and a mile-long freshwater lake. A section of Acadia
National Park covers about half of Isle au Haut. The campground is situated on
the western side of Isle au Haut. It is just south of the Duck Harbor Boat
Landing. The island is approximately six miles long by two miles wide.

## Nearby Attractions

There is a small, traditional village near the Isle au Haut Town Landing where
one can find a general store, seasonal gift shop, a seasonal food shack, and
post office.

  * If a camper does not arrive at his/her campsite by 11:00am check-out time the day after the scheduled arrival date, **their reservation will be cancelled, the camper will incur a $20.00 service fee, and forfeit the first night's camping fee**.

coast. Located on the Schoodic Peninsula, this campground is 1.5 miles (2.5
km) southeast of Winter Harbor. It is approximately 60-70 minutes from Bar
Harbor and the main section of the park. Visitors venture to Acadia for its
picturesque scenery, historic sites and recreational activities, including
walking, hiking, biking and kayaking.

## Recreation

The Schoodic Peninsula provides numerous recreational activities without the
congestion of Mount Desert Island. A six-mile (10 km), one-way loop road
offers views of lighthouses, seabirds, and forested islands. Vehicle turnouts
provide opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. Stopping on the road and
parking outside of designated pull-offs are prohibited. There are over eight
miles of hiking trails on the Schoodic Peninsula and an additional eight miles
of bike paths. Arey Cove Road leads to Schoodic Point, a windswept, rocky
point providing spectacular views of Mount Desert Island.

## Facilities

All sites (except for group sites and hike-in sites) have electric, and B-Loop
sites have electric and water. Flush toilets, potable running water, and a
dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings in each
site.All sites have ADA picnic tables. All campground roads are paved.
Acadia's Island Explorer shuttle buses provide free service between park
destinations and local communities. Shuttle service is available on the
Schoodic Peninsula from late-May to mid-October. There is no shuttle service
between the Schoodic Peninsula and Mt. Desert Island. Grocery, and supply
stores are located in Winter Harbor, 1.5 miles from the campground. *****

From gentle walks along the rugged coastline, mountain hikes, tree lined
carriage roads for biking and lakes for kayaking and canoeing, Acadia offers
many opportunities to get outside and be active.  
  
  
Park rangers at Acadia offer a variety of programs to suit every interest and
activity level. Programs include walks, talks, hikes, narrated boat cruises,
bike rides and more. Kids age 6-12 love Acadia's Junior Ranger Program.  
  
  
A 27-mile, historic loop road system offers outstanding views of the park's
ocean shoreline, coastal forests and mountain silhouettes.

## Facilities

The majority of this family-oriented campground's sites are for small and
large tents; some sites can accommodate RVs up to 35 ft. in length.
Maneuvering RVs in the campground can be very difficult. Seawall Campground
was not designed to accomodate large RVs and trailers. Please read campsite
details and warnings carefully before reserving a site. Accommodations cannot
be made for RVs or trailers that do not fit in reserved sites.  
  
  
Flush toilets, running water and a dump station are provided, as are picnic
tables and fire rings. Roads are paved. A picnic area is located on the shore
across from the campground entrance.  
  
  
  
*****Fee shower facilities and camping supply stores are located 1 mile from
the campground. There are no showers in the campground. The use of portable
showers is prohibited.*****

## Natural Features

Southwest Harbor is located on the west side of Mount Desert Island. The west
side of the Island is considered the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. All
the sites at Seawall Campground are wooded and within a 10-minute walk to the
ocean. There are many beautiful and quiet hiking trails on this side of the
Island, as well as Echo Lake, a wonderful lake for swimming, fishing,
canoeing, kayaking and picnics. Acadia is comprised of a cluster of islands on
the Atlantic coast of Maine. Mountains, lakes, streams, wetlands, forests,
meadows and beaches are all found within roughly 50,000 acres comprising
Acadia.

## Charges & Cancellations

In addition to the changes and cancellations outlined in the reservation rules
above, a no-show refers to a camper who does not arrival at the campground and
fails to cancel their reservation by check-out time on the day after their
scheduled arrival.

  * If you have not arrived by 10:00am EST the day after your scheduled arrival, your reservation will be canceled and incur a $20.00 service fee along with forfeiting the first night’s camping fee.

**Early Departures**

If you choose to check out of your campsite early, you must notify us in
person at the Campground Ranger Station before 10:00am EST to receive a refund
for your remaining nights. If you check out after 10:00am EST, you will not
receive a refund for that night.

<p><strong>For Seawall campsites, 90 percent of campsites are released six months in advance on the first of each month at 10 am EST. The remaining 10 percent are released at 10 am 14 days ahead of a desired arrival date on a rolling basis. For example, if you plan to arrive on May 24, you can make an online reservation starting at 10 am EST Dec 1 from the first release or starting at 10 am EST on May 10 from the second release. All campsite reservations must be made through recreation.gov.</strong></p>
