Fawn Creek Youth Campground

Even though the cedar eradication is in full swing, the campground was clean and orderly. The bathrooms were clean and well kept. It was a pleasure to camp there.

I’ve mentioned this before in a review last spring , but the grills need to be replaced. We’ve put steel plates in the bottom, but now the entire base is rotted and now the grill is leaning backwards. If your group intends to grill, you may want to bring your own grill. Speaking of. camp C specifically.

We are a group from Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls. We very much enjoy the campsite and the activities there. The kids love to go on the hikes to be able to reach and see the peaks. We try to find new trails each year to hike. We enjoy the animals, the visitor center and all the attractions around. I would recommend driving up Mt. Scott and spend a few hours. We also like to visit the holy city. Go to the visitor center and get the maps and the rated difficulties for the hikes. There is a great hike around the water that is easy but about 6 miles. Compare with the group that you are with in what can be done.

We had a fantastic time as always and love the new latrines. The only negative is that the grill at camp C needs to be replaced. We’ve brought metal plates cut just for that grill in the past to cover the holes, but I guess a previous group needed them more that the rest of us or the reserve removed them.

Hiking Elk Mountain was awesome! The facilities are well maintained and clean. Seeing the Bison and Elk grazing in the pastures near the roads was incredible!!

We are part of youth groups called American Heritage Girls and Trail Life USA and were able to camp at Fawn Creek. Campsite was great, hiking was great, Rangers were friendly. There is nothing to complain about. Thanks

Our Boy Scout troop has been camping in Fawn Creek for years. This area is excellent for large troops there is plenty of room to accommodate any size troop. It is very quiet and well maintained. The latrine facilities are well maintained. The lack of available potable water has been an increasing issue over the years. So much so we now bring our own water for the weekend.

Fawn Creek Campground Site C was great! We had plenty of room to spread out and plenty of shade. The tables, fire ring, and grill met our needs perfectly. Access to amazing hikes and the wildlife was a definite plus. Randy at the Visitor’s Center was gracious enough to talk with our group and share stories. We can’t wait to go back!

Our Scout Troop always enjoys when we camp at Fawn Creek campsite. it is large enough for our Troop, has good bathroom facilities and provides good walking access to many trails. Be sure to prepare for not having water nearby. The HQ office down the street used to be available for water, but we were told it was closed and the gate was locked to preclude access. Doris campground was the nearest water approximately 4.5 miles away. Otherwise it's a great campground for larger groups, espeically Scout Troops.

We are a troop that enjoys staying at the Refuge for camping. We very much enjoy the camping at the site and were able to take hikes, see the bison, elk, prairie dogs and others animals.

Campsite was spacious and clean, and perfect for a Scout Troop such as ours. Firewood was abundant in the area. The distance between camps was sufficient to create a sense of isolation, despite the nearest group being a large Troop. The ranger who visited our campsite was friendly and very helpful, and we appreciated him coming by our site.

A fine campsite for our Scout troop. We had 15 on Site B with plenty of room to spare. A is about the same size, C much larger. Good tables, two fire rings. Level and lots of trees for hammocks. The only toilet facilities are two units down at Site C. There's no water. We carried five five-gallon jerrycans of water for the weekend. You can refill water at the Refuge HQ down the road a mile or so. This is our go-to site when we take Scouts down there.

Great camp sites and excellent place to hike. Be ready to being your own water, and cell reception is negligible.

Excellent camping site for Scout Troops, and very close to Elk Mountain. Plenty of wood in the surrounding forest areas. However, no water is available at the site.
