## Overview

Lofers Bend Day Use Park is located on Whitney Lake on the Brazos River in
central Texas. Whitney Lake gets over two million visitors a year. Visitors
enjoy many recreational activities in the area and the scenic beauty that
Whitney Lake provides. Lofers Bend Day Use gates will open at 6:00 am and the
park will close at 10:00 pm.

pavilion, a two lane boat ramp, playground, 2 swim beaches, 2 sand volleyball

The park is located in Hill County on the upstream side of Whitney Dam and
features an oak-savannah landscape including a variety of oak trees, native
grasses, and wildflowers. Whitetail deer can often be seen in the park.

Gatehouse. The use of any Interagency Passes will be accepted.

30 amp electric hook ups with water and 10 sites have water and 50 amp

ring. The park also has 3 restrooms, showers, horseshoe pits, a trailer dump
station, boat ramp and a playground.

Whitney Lake. Anglers can fish for a variety of bass, crappie and catfish.

water. There is a group camp area located near the water and is within 100
yards of a large restroom with showers. The pavilion has a capacity of
approximately 100 people and contains eight (8), eight foot tables,

Brazos River in Central Texas. The campground offers thirty four 50 amp
campsites.

## Recreation

Boating, fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking are popular activities on
the river and downstream at Whitney Lake. Anglers can fish for a variety of
bass, crappie and catfish. Visitors enjoy hiking the Chisholm Trail, a
historic route followed by upwards of ten million cattle as they traveled
northbound from southern Texas to Kansas and adjacent destinations between
1867 and the 1880s. It crosses through the campground and past several
historic structures.

There are 10 Corps of Engineers parks, one state park, and three additional
parks managed by Hill County or private individuals. Equestrian riders have a
great place to explore rolling hills and woods in the McCown Valley Equestrian
Area. Hopewell Trail, a 12.5 mile equestrian riding and multi-use trail that
winds along the lake and through wildlife areas was opened in 2002. Trail
riders can access the trail and stay overnight at the equestrian camping area
at Plowman Creek Park.

There are 10 Corps of Engineers parks, one state park, and three additional parks managed by Hill County or private individuals.  Equestrian riders have a great place to explore rolling hills and woods in the McCown Valley Equestrian Area. Hopewell Trail, a 12.5 mile equestrian riding and multi-use trail that winds along the lake and through wildlife areas was opened in 2002. Trail riders can access the trail and stay overnight at the equestrian camping area at Plowman Creek Park.
