Directions
From Kopperl, TX, travel north on HWY 56 for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn right on HWY 174 and go approximately 2.3 miles. Turn left into the park, just before the HWY 174 bridge.
From Cleburne, TX, travel south on HWY 174 for 22 miles. Turn right into the park after you cross the HWY 174 bridge.
Stay Limit
Check in from 3 PM, check out by 2 PM.

This was our first truck camping experience and it was a beautiful campground. The bathrooms were close and easy to access. We have another trip booked to this campground in October.

We arrived on Thursday late afternoon, planning on staying until Sunday celebrating my husband's birthday. The grass was at least 2 feet high and there are stickers everywhere. We decided we weren't going to have a campfire that evening so we just played with our dogs and relaxed. Friday morning my husband woke me up telling me that there were ants in the camper, even in the bed crawling on him and the dogs. (I slept on the slide because I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to disturb him) Upon further inspection, ants were EVERYWHERE inside and on the outside of the camper as well. We realized they were everywhere and decided to pack up and leave. On the way out we saw the park host outside and stopped on the way out to tell her what was going on and that we were leaving. Her response to us was along the lines of "yes, we have treated that site a few times because it has been an ongoing problem". No offer to refund our money, nothing to try and make it right.
Needless to say, it was not a good experience.

This park has so much potential. Small, spacious, but definitely in need of some love.
Grass hadn't been mowed in a while. Some campers actually brought mowers or trimmers. In the six nights we were there, we saw one camp host mow one site one day and one on another day. This is in spite of the fact that both camp hosts had large zero-turn mowers at their sites. Couldn't even access the historical site signs due to thigh-high grass.
The campground was supposed to have no day use, but a couple of campers had multiple car loads of guests for a big gathering on two of the days/evenings.
Only briefly saw one camp host outside his rig once. Saw the other a couple of times. Neither checked on us, checked us in, or even acknowledged our existence. No window sticker to show whether we belonged there or not.
The boat ramp parking appears to be recently repaved, but evidently the ramp has been closed for quite some time (months) due to the road being blocked by construction equipment that was being used for work on the highway bridge.
Would love to love this park, but it needs help. Lots of large pecan trees for shade. Well space sites. But the sites need some more gravel and the picnic table areas cleaned up.
