Whitetail Ridge

Overview

Whitetail Ridge Campground is a waterfront facility on the western shore of West Point Lake, which spans parts of Alabama and Georgia.

This man-made lake has 525 miles of shoreline that provide excellent opportunities for fishing, camping, boating and other recreational activities.

Recreation

Whether sailing or power boating, West Point Lake is a boater's paradise. There are boat ramps in 34 public recreation areas around the lake, including Amity, as well as two privately owned full-service marinas. Fishing is one of the most popular activities on the lake. A dozen creeks and more than 40 square miles of lake provide plenty of good fishing spots for the thousands of anglers who fish here regularly. The lake abounds with bass, catfish, crappie and bream. Bank fishing is excellent at many locations, including public fishing piers at Hardley Creek, Rocky Point and McGee Bridge parks. Several trails wind along the lake and through the landscape, including the Lakeside Trail, which is perfect for mountain biking. A wildlife management area of nearly 10,000 acres, located at the upper end of the lake, provides habitat for many types of wildlife. This area offers excellent hunting opportunities.

Facilities

The Whitetail Ridge Campground offers 58 sites with electric and water hookups. Additional amenities include a dump station, laundry facilities and hot showers.

Natural Features

Surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests that display outstanding fall foliage, West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line. The campground is forested and sits on the shore overlooking the 25,900-acre lake.

Nearby Attractions

The lake offers 21 day-use parks. While many people visit the lake to boat and camp, the parks offer a variety of other recreation facilities including tennis courts, ball fields, basketball courts, fishing piers with fish attractors, hiking trails and picnic shelters for individuals or large groups.

Had some individual s move in next to me that partied all night. Had to call attendant 3 times and finally got him on phone. He told me to call 911. I already had called them but it took over an hour for them to get there. Finally got music turned off at 3:00 am but group was still loud and roudy till I got up and left in my boat at 3:30 am. Other than that it was ok.

The Hosts were very nice and helpful! Campground I found to be different than what I viewed and researched. It is a very wooded area at most of the sites (I did ride around). Also, seems more suited for RV's, Pop-up's, Vans and so on but not tents as I didn't see any. It is a good campground for water activity right off the lake but it was to close to the site (11) which made for loud noise and scared my dog several times into the trees! The crows during the day and cicada's at night were unusually loud. I reserved a 3 night stay but i woke up to ants seriously crawling in lines on my tent! So, i tried to get rid of them but they only kept coming back and then I saw that they were now inside the tent (no food inside)! I tried to stay but I was spending too much time and energy trying to keep them out so I decided to leave. Once i packed up and removed the tent I could see that the ground was covered with ants! Everywhere! First time I experienced this situation and I am happy I decided to leave. The Host again were very nice and gave me a refund for the other days. I will return maybe when I get a van!

Love this campground, with a number of sites directly on the water. Level, quiet, well-maintained facilities. Our site (4) directly across from restroom only, with the showers a bit of a hike. Campground was a great mix of boaters, fishing, and family going into 4th of July weekend, but still quiet. Go to campground here in GA. Great staff and facilities.

We liked this campground very much, but we would choose a different site next time. We were camping in a tent. This site might be better with an RV. The campground has nice sites with privacy - lots of trees. Some sites are right on the lake. We had a nice view of the lake from our site. We were quite a long distance from the restrooms. We would definitely recommend this campground and we would stay here again.

I was in site 24. The lake is downhill at the back of the site, a little steep and not a clear path. Probably would be a good Fall site. The picnic table and firepit was a surprise, they are at the back of the site. Liked the site very much.

The campground is clean and well maintained. However, come prepared for ants because the Corps will not to anything to try to reduce or eradicate the invasive ant population.

This was such a beautiful spot on the lake. So many birds! The site was level and lots of grass, which our Springer spaniel loved. She was able to hop right in and out of the water. If I had to list anything negative, I would say that the ants might carry you off! My best advice: Bring a honey bun and bait them away from your RV.

We love it here. The lots are clean and private, the area is comfortably shaded, and the staff are warm and inviting. It’s my new favorite camping location- and I live in Alabama near Lake Martin and minutes away from a popular camping resort.

It’s a small, quiet park, but it has some of the best water views! We rode the entire park and didn’t see a single site we didn’t like! The water in the bath house was not hot, but thankfully we had our camper to shower in and a hot shower isn’t a deal breaker for us. The gate keepers were AMAZING and so sweet! They make up for any negative experience we may have had!

The campground hosts were very welcoming as we arrived. The sites were very clean as were the restrooms and showers. I would definitely recommend The Captains restaurant for seafood while visiting. The downtown area of Lagrange has lots of really good restaurants including Nola on Main, LaFamila Mexican and of course Charlie Josephs.

The campground hosts were very friendly and helpful. Calling and asking questions about the park rules is very helpful in getting the most out of your trip. Whitetail Ridge is located directly on the main lake portion of West Point Lake. Great fishing, beautiful location, safe, and large wooded lots, but not too far from LaGrange.
