Tamarack Campground is a small facility located along the Wild and Scenic
Eagle Creek in the southern Wallowa Mountains. This open and sunny site has 12
tent/trailer sites and 3 that are fully accessible. A short accessible path
leads down to the creek and ends at two fishing platforms. Popular activities
include; fishing, hiking, and bird watching. With easy access, this campground
can fill-up and particularly during holiday week-ends.

Two Color Campground

## Overview

The Civilian Conservation Corps originally constructed the Two Color Guard
Station in the 1930s for use as crew quarters and bunkhouse. The original
building was removed in 1976. The current guard station was built in 1959.  
  
Two Color Guard Station is open June through October. Guests can drive to it
except after significant snowfall, when it's only accessible by snowmobile.
Guests staying in the later part of the season are encouraged to bring extra
supplies to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

## Recreation

The cabin is near the Main Eagle Trailhead, which is southern portal into the
Eagle Cap Wilderness (2 miles away). This trail is open to hikers and
horseback riders.  
  
Forest Road 7755 is one of the designated roads on the snowmobile route south
of the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and it can be used for snowmobiling, cross-
country skiing and snowshoeing. Two Color Guard Station is the end of the
groomed trail. Other open and closed forest roads are available for winter
time exploring, but snowmobiles are prohibited within the Eagle Cap
Wilderness.  
  
Anglers can fish for rainbow trout in Eagle Creek, just 150 feet from the
cabin's front door.

The cabin is comfortably furnished with a table and chairs, couches, and
enough beds to accommodate 12 people. Bedding and linens are not provided.
Other amenities include propane lights, a propane cook stove and oven,
refrigerator and heating stove. Cookware, place settings and most cooking
utensils are provided.  
  
  
  
Outside the cabin is a picnic table and a corral large enough for several
stock animals. The outside vault toilet is accessible.  
  
  
  
Water is not available, and guests must bring plenty for drinking, cooking and
washing. Guests need to bring garbage bags for packing out trash, and the
cabin must be cleaned before leaving.  
  
  
  
Bedding, towels, dish soap and emergency items like flashlights and first aid

of $20.00 per night is charged for occupants ranging from 7 to the maximum of

## Natural Features

Outside the cabin, the crystal clear waters of the Wild and Scenic Eagle Creek
work their way through the mountains to the valley floor in a series of small
waterfalls and whitewater rapids. The landscape features subalpine firs and
white bark pine as well as meadows that burst with colorful wildflowers.
Guests will find blue-green pools and dramatic rock formations scattered along
the creek's path.  
  
Two Color Guard Station is just a short distance away from the Eagle Cap
Wilderness. This wilderness is characterized by high alpine lakes and meadows,
bare granite peaks and ridges, and U-shaped glaciated valleys.

TWO COLOR GUARD STATION

Two Color Guard Station

Located at the end of a narrow winding forest road, the Boulder Park
Campground receives visitors escaping the rising summer heat.  The campground
is adjacent to the Wild and Scenic Eagle Creek offering beautiful views of the
nearby Eagle Cap Wilderness and Wallowa Mountains. Developed as a horse camp
for visitors using the wilderness trails, each campsite has facilities for
holding stock overnight.

Boulder Park Campground

The West Eagle Meadow Campground is set amongst towering evergreen forests and
across from wildflower covered meadows.  The icy cold West Eagle Creek flows
near the sites after it leaves the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The campground offers
tent/small trailer campsites, walk-in tent sites, and a picnic area. Adjacent
to the campground in the West Eagle Meadows Trailhead which has a combination
horse camp and trailhead.

websites and locations. You can also use the self-service fee station which is
located at the site for purchasing day passes. The campground fee is
$10.00/night for users staying in the designated campsites. A self-service fee
station is located near the information board.  
Visitors parking at the site in either the campsites or trailhead parking
areas and spending extended time in the backcountry will need to have multiple
day passes (or an annual pass for trailhead use).

West Eagle Meadow Campground

The West Eagle Meadows Trailhead is one of the 'late season' trailheads to
open in the early summer due to the area's heavy snow accumulation and high
elevation. Located near West Eagle Creek and meadow, this site is frequented
by hikers and equestrians alike who want to enjoy a day or extended trip into
the Eagle Cap Wilderness area. The combination trailhead and equestrian camp
offers parking facilities for both stock and non-stock users, and has hitching
rails, a loading ramp and feed bunks.

The West Eagle trail provides access to Echo, Traverse, Diamond and Tombstone
lakes as well as a beautiful trip along the Minam River. You can also access
many other destinations in the wilderness from this trail. Fishing and
wildlife viewing opportunities abound as you travel through diverse landscapes
of meadows, lakes, and mountains.

Adjacent to the trailhead is the West Eagle Meadows Campground with tent and
walk-in campsites and a picnic area.

The East Eagle Trailhead is located at the end of Forest Service road 7745
along East Eagle Creek. The trailhead is popular in the summer for day and
extended trips into the southern Wallowa Mountains and Eagle Cap Wilderness,
and in the fall for big game hunting. Visitors have two options for accessing
trails in this area. They can park at the end of road at the East Eagle
Trailhead with primary access to the East Eagle Creek Trail #1910, or they can
park lower down at the Little Kettle Creek Trailhead which better accommodates
trucks and stock trailers. The Little Kettle Creek Trailhead is the main
access for Trail #1945 Kettle Creek.

East Eagle Trailhead

Located on the western side of the Eagle Cap Wilderness and very close to the
wilderness boundary, the Buck Creek Campground/Trailhead was built to meet the
needs of both wilderness trail users and overnight campers. After crossing the
Buck Creek Bridge off the North Fork Catherine Creek Road, the narrow dirt
road travels through isolated forest and towering rock cliffs to the
combination campground and trailhead.

The area is also very popular for mushrooming in the Spring and berry picking
in the Fall.  In the late Summer and Fall, big game hunters use the site for
day and extended overnight hunting trips.

wanting to escape the heat, enjoy the sounds of the stream, view wildlife, or
take a short hike along the creek. Also located nearby is the North Fork

The Two Pan Campground is a small horse camp located below the Two Pan
Trailhead at the end of the Lostine Canyon Road. The campground offers 4 stock
sites with limited parking areas for visitors wanting to spend time near the
Eagle Cap Wilderness. It is situated in a cool location, shaded by spruce and
fir trees.

Two Pan Campground

**Provides access to:  **Lostine River Trails #1662 to #1661 to #1670.

After several switchbacks, the trail opens into a beautiful valley with
excellent opportunities for photography. The valley floor is full of lush
vegetation and wildflowers with mountain ridges on both sides. Ivan Carper
Pass #1661 overlooks the Lakes Basin area and affords you a panoramic view of
Eagle Cap peak. The trail between Mirror and Minam Lake (#1661) is quite steep
but passable to stock. Dispersed camping is available at Mirror and Minam
Lakes but make sure you follow the Eagle Cap Wilderness Regulations. Blue Lake
is located approximately 1 mile south of Minam Lake and surrounds you with
beautiful scenery, but limited camping. The best fishing for brook trout is
July through September, depending on weather conditions. There are two stream
fords on the #1670 trail back down to the Two Pan Trailhead.

The Two Pan Trailhead is located at the end of the Lostine Canyon Road on the
edge of the Eagle Cap Wilderness. This large trailhead has a lower car and
truck parking area, and an upper truck-trailer parking area with pull-through
spaces. The upper area has stock water, hitchrails, and a loading ramp. Long
term overnight camping for stock is located just a short distance north of the
parking area and trailhead before reaching the end of the road.

<p><strong>Provides access to:&nbsp;</strong>Lostine River Trails #1662 to #1661 to #1670.</p><p>After several switchbacks, the trail opens into a beautiful valley with excellent opportunities for photography. The valley floor is full of lush vegetation and wildflowers with mountain ridges on both sides. Ivan Carper Pass #1661 overlooks the Lakes Basin area and affords you a panoramic view of Eagle Cap peak. The trail between Mirror and Minam Lake (#1661) is quite steep but passable to stock. Dispersed camping is available at Mirror and Minam Lakes but make sure you follow the Eagle Cap Wilderness Regulations. Blue Lake is located approximately 1 mile south of Minam Lake and surrounds you with beautiful scenery, but limited camping. The best fishing for brook trout is July through September, depending on weather conditions. There are two stream fords on the #1670 trail back down to the Two Pan Trailhead.</p><p>The Two Pan Trailhead is located at the end of the Lostine Canyon Road on the edge of the <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/wallowa-whitman/recreation/recarea/?recid=79468">Eagle Cap Wilderness</a>. This large trailhead has a lower car and truck parking area, and an upper truck-trailer parking area with pull-through spaces. The upper area has&nbsp;stock water, hitchrails, and a loading ramp. visiting the Lostine Canyon and Eagle Cap Wilderness. This campground is
adjacent to the Maxwell Trailhead which climbs into the wilderness.

The Fish Lake Campground is located adjacent to the picturesque Fish Lake in
the Wallowa Mountains. As a high elevation campground visitors enjoy fishing,
boating, and hiking at the nearby wildernes and non-wilderness trailheads. Six
of the 21 tent/trailers sites have been constructed to accommodate persons
with disabilities, and 6 sites on the upper loop are available for RV's longer
than 20 feet. Considerations: Mosquitos! and dropping water levels in late
summer.

from Fish Lake Campground. The facility is set in an open pine area. The Lake
Fork Trail (#1876) goes down along Lake Fork Creek and ends at the Lake Fork
Creek Trailhead along Forest Road 39/ Hells Canyon Scenic Byway.
