First off, a good/great campground host is integral to the experience. Russ is the most professional, responsible, attentive and dare we say it “brave” in calling out the less rule abiding of the visitors to the campground. In addition to the host this is by far the most serene spot we have visited and, after 40+ years, our family is delighted to come back. The sound of the river, the light of the trees, the layout of the campground and campsites, it’s the best.

It was our first time visiting the Douglas City Campground, and we found it to be a peaceful and enjoyable place. The camp attendant was incredibly nice and helped guide us. The campground features clean bathrooms and showers, and it sits right next to the Trinity River. There are numerous hiking trails and fishing spots along the riverbank. Also there are few places that you can swim in the river. Overall, we had a great experience and even saw two bears while out on a hike! Highly recommend it!
