Wilderness has a well-developed trail system, and the western end of the

as trail conditions can be fair or poor, and several are unsuitable for

along Canyon lake for shoreline and fishing dock access, but keep in mind
these sites require a day pass not included in the camping fees.

The campground is large yet compact, with campsites in close proximity of one
another. Every campsite has a view of the surrounding desert, some with views
of mountain peaks and cliffs. The facility accommodates RVs and has sewage
hookups. Each campsite comes with a picnic table and a campfire ring with a
cooking grate. Services at the end of Tortilla Flat include a post office,
restaurant, gift shop and public cellular credit card phone (emergency 911).
Canyon Lake and Marina is located two miles west and includes public boat
launches and picnic/fishing sites, a restaurant, excursion boats and boat
rentals.

The Superstition Wilderness Area is starkly beautiful and untamed. A series of
dams has created numerous lakes along the Salt River. Blossoming plants bring
the desert to life each spring with vibrant wildflowers. This area is a
photographers dream with plenty of opportunities to capture Bighorn Sheep,
Deer, and other desert widlife. The area can be harsh for travelers not
equipped to meet nature on her own terms. Soaring temperatures and little
water are typical conditions in the summer. In winter, temperatures are
typically pleasant during the day but drop significantly at night. Visitors
should come prepared for anything, even the occasional rain or snow.

great views of the desert and an accessible interpretive trail great for
learning about the history of the area.

Bagley Flat is notable for its boat access only camping on Saguaro Lake.
Camping is allowed at the 10 designated sites with grills and tables provided.
This location is fun during the summer months because of the nice grove of
mesquite trees that provide and abundance of shade. Bagley Flat also has a
courtesy dock for easy fishing.

Tucked away amongst vibrant palo verde and iconic saguaro cactus on the banks
of the Lower Salt River, the Larry Forbis Group Site offers a peaceful setting
for groups and large gatherings throughout the year. October through March,
this site is open to campers looking to take advantage of a unique opportunity
to enjoy one of Arizona's finest rivers under the stars. Campers can pitch a
tent on the sandy shoreline and awaken to beautiful views of the surrounding
Sonoran Desert. During summer months when the river is flowing and ambient
temperatures are high, recreators can enjoy a day of kayaking, tubing, or
fishing down the river before returning to their private ramada for a picnic.

There are 3 units available to reserve (Units A, B, or C). Each unit contains
the following:

  * 2 large ramadas
  * 4 picnic tables
  * 4 pedestal grills
  * 3 fire rings
  * 10 designated parking stalls
  * Access to the tent camping loop trail (shared with adjacent units)
  * Access to two vault toilets (shared with adjacent units)

The Larry Forbis Group Site is located on the south end of the Pebble Beach
Recreation Area and requires a reservation for use. Reservations can be made
for one, two, or all three units. Any group exceeding 75 people will require a
separate Special Use Authorization. Please contact the Mesa Ranger Station
ahead of time for further details. **Overnight camping is only permitted
within the site from October 1 st - March 31st.**

Canyon is 34,000 acres in size and provides approximately 20 miles of open
routes. Bulldog Canyon routes are all full size vehicle width and provide
access to the beautiful Sonoran desert and Goldfield Mountains. There are five
access points: Blue Point, Usery, Wolverine, Hackamore, and Dutchman. A Tonto
OHV Permit is currently required for this area, available at Recreation.gov.
Please remember to stay on the routes.  Driving off-road is prohibited on the
Tonto National Forest. Permits are not available at the District Office.

**ALERT:**  Camping is prohibited within the following staging areas: Blue
Point for two miles, Usery, Wolverine, Hackamore, Dutchman, and Willow for one
mile. As well as all of NFSR 78 (First Water Road). The user made horse

and motorized boating.  There are 82 developed campsites available at Burnt
Corral, which allows for a great escape any time of the year for families or
individuals. Burnt Corral has highly accessible areas, with slopes that are
under 5% and concrete or compacted gravel grounds.

## Overview

The Frazier Horse Campground is nestled into a Sonoran desert landscape at
Roosevelt Lake, one of Arizona's most outstanding water-based recreation
areas. The lake is the largest of four reservoirs within a 2-hour drive of
Phoenix and Tucson. The facility has the first lakeside horse camp built in
the Southwestern Region of the Forest Service. From the recreation site, trail
users access the Arizona Trail, an 800-mile (1,287-kilometer), non-motorized
trail.

## Recreation

Bring your horses and head out to the Arizona Trail right from camp via the
Cottonwood trail. There are many other trails in the area but they require
trailering your horses.

Frazier Horse Campground is an equestrian campground and offers a vault
toilet, horse drinker, potable water hydrant, and horse corrals.

Roosevelt Lake was dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1911 and
boasts 112 miles of shoreline and peaceful coves. When full, the lake provides
21,500 acres of surface water. Frazier Horse Campground is situated near the
lake’s shoreline. Views of the blue water and sunsets against the Sierra
Ancha, Salome, and Superstition Wilderness areas are a sight that keep many
visitors coming back year after year.  
  
The area around Frazier Horse Campground is often alive with abundant wildlife
such as mule deer, coyotes, geese, fox, javalina, and the occasional bald
eagle.
