Snake Creek
Overview
Snake Creek Park is one of the most popular campgrounds on Tenkiller Ferry Lake. With modern facilities, convenient access to boating, and plenty of opportunities to view wildlife, it's no wonder campers come here year after year.Recreation
Boating, fishing, water skiing, hiking, and swimming are some of the activities enjoyed by visitors. Prevailing winds and secluded coves create an ideal environment for sailing. Scuba divers enjoy the lake's clear waters and high visibility. Fishing is good for black bass, white bass, striped bass, crappie and catfish. The trout stream below the dam is one of only two year-round trout fisheries in Oklahoma, and is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. Hunting is also permitted in parts of the lake area, in accordance with federal and state laws.Facilities
All campsites are equipped with electrical hookups, and the group shelters also have electricity. The park has flush toilets, hot showers, water hydrants, a swim beach, playground, dump station and boat ramps. A marina with concessions is adjacent to the campground. Of the ten marinas with concessions located on the lake, most offer boat and jet-ski rentals, and several have floating restaurants.Natural Features
Tenkiller Ferry Lake is often referred to as "Oklahoma's clear water paradise." The 12,500 acre lake is sourced by the Illinois River and the Baron Fork, which are both designated as Oklahoma Scenic Rivers. It is nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in the northeastern part of the state. This area, known as Green Country, is surrounded by dense oak-hickory forests, tall bluffs, and rolling hills. The lake has 130 miles of shoreline with plenty of wildlife such as deer and turkey. It serves as one of the flyways of migratory birds, including bald eagles, common loons, and white pelicans.Nearby Attractions
Visit the Tenkiller State Park for its nature center and scuba diving park, the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge near Vian, or the historic city of Tahlequah - the capital of the Cherokee Nation. The scenic upper Illinois River near Tahlequah is great for canoeing and rafting, and the lower Illinois near Gore offers prime trout fishing.Camp site features

First off, we love Snake Creek. Our family has been enjoying this campground for a few years now, meeting up with friends usually to camp for at least a week. We have traditionally been tent campers until this past year when we purchased out first camper, so we have actually been able to camp a few more times this year already more than usual. We had been to Snake Creek in early May for a weekend, it was as usual, a nice, quiet relaxing place to spend time with our kids and enjoy the time together. Our biggest complaint then was that the dumpsters were all packed full to the top.
Skip to our recent trip from Sunday July 5th to Sunday July 12th, upon arriving after the big holiday weekend, the dumpsters again were all full, overflowing, but that was understandable as we know the campgrounds are usually super busy for the 4th, which is why we scheduled our camping trip after that date. We figured the trash would be picked up Monday and all would be good. We were wrong. Each passing day, still no trash pick up, so all we could do was throw our one bag a day on top of the heaped up trash. I got excited on the Friday thinking I heard a large trash truck coming in to finally pick up the trash...instead it was a company delivering a roll off dumpster to begin filling with the trash. By the time we left at 10 am Sunday the 12th, following a week of no trash pick up, I am not sure when the trash (if ever) has been picked up! This was a disgusting sight, drawing many flies to the area, which we have never had an issue with before at this campground. The smell was overwhelming when you neared the dumpsters, as it baked in the 100 degree weather.
Another situation that was a big issue this time around was the facilities. We usually try to utilize the shower houses and bathrooms, most showers were not working, the working ones had waste water flowing on the ground outside the cleanout, smelling of septic. Hope they get these things situated before we try to go again. :(

Honestly, the only thing we enjoyed about our stay, was the volunteer named Kim. It was horribly overgrown, the grass was knee high, and we battled fire ants from day 1, mounds surrounded ours ( and others) site...and most of the rest of the park. We had a full hookup spot and couldn't use the fire pit because it sat sideways in the ground. Eventually, they got larger dumpsters but the first several days, trash was everywhere, because all of the dumpsters were overflowing. The upkeep was absolutely horrible and we have canceled all future reservations.

Love camping at Snake Creek. The gate attendant and other volunteers went above and beyond keeping the campground nice. The restrooms were immaculate.

We were in campsite #93 campsite #94 had a dog that barked so much l got such a headach from the barking dog we left and went home while packing to leave campers in 94 ask why we were leaving l said l had a headach he said l hope it wasn't my dog and laughted and said l hope it wasn't my dog l reported it didn't do any good.

I would have given 5 stars but we couldn't use the boat ramp/dock- had to use the high water ramp (I understand that was out of your control) I love lake Tenkiller! Dockside Pizza is a must! Tenkiller Thriller water inflatables was fun for the grands.

The grass was so high. There was people bringing push mower to mow their own areas. For what you pay to camp you think they at least keep the grass cut

You need to get rid of the sand burrs they are ruining the camp ground you can’t even bring a dog or put a child on the grass they are that bad. We were very disappointed in you couldn’t even walk to the table or grill without them being all in your shoes and the hem of you pants

Snake creek is a beautiful campground and our favorite camping spot. However, we were disappointed in a couple of things this year. First of all the stickers or sand burs were blooming all over the park to the point my dog could not walk in the grass through most of the park as they were the worst along side the road. But the worst thing was the trash receptacles! There were only 2 for the entire campground and they were overflowing and had trash piled up around them for the entire weekend. It seems they’re only emptied once a week and then fill back up in just a couple of days. I will say the volunteers do an excellent job cleaning up the campsites between guests as well as the public use areas. They were spotless! Please do something about the trash so we can continue enjoying this campground!

Unlevel for RV/ pop up campers, firepit is on the side of a hill. Barely any trees, all sun 🌞. Lots of fire ants 🐜 and burs. Love to camp but not like this haha
The view was the only thing it really had going for it. ❤️

We really love this campground! The facilities are great, the grounds are well kept, the neighbors were quiet. This is probably our favorite COE campground in NE OK.

The small restroom/shower house next to my campsite (#75-handicap), had, on the men's side, an inoperative shower and required that I drive to another shower house. That proved to be quite an inconvenience due to having to disconnect from my hook ups.

Showers one stall no drain cover or water, next stall standing water not draining and no hot water. Only one stall usable with no hot water. For the amount of money spent on camp site you think repairs should be made.

The restrooms and the shower houses are in the need of a very good cleaning. Some shower drains were stopped up. Showers had spiders in them. The camp grounds were good. I will go back to Snake Creek. We don’t ready need the bath houses.

The campgrounds were fantastic and well kept. Our only issue was neighbors not respecting quiet hours and being very loud until 2am. But it was a holiday weekend and that is kind of expected.

The bathrooms were awful! The campsites was great. We couldn’t even take a shower they were so bad. No hot water and no light in the bathroom. Very disappointed

Love the lake we have a boat at snake creek marina. The campsites are full of biting ants and goat head stickers which isnt very pleasent for us or the dog. Also had a couple pot holes around the site that was very deep, i would try and sit something over them to keep from tripping in them.

Clear water. Numerous sites some with good shade. Would have been nice if trailer pad had been cleaned of goose droppings prior to arrival. Shoreline rocky and shallow not a good area to beach boat.

Won’t let me post fair. Love going to Snake creek but this time there are sand burs every where. Spent a lot of time getting burs out of dog and everyone. Don’t know if we will go back as long as the burs are there. 1st time we’ve gone there since the tornado. Please do something about the burs. Love the lake and view.

Great Lake access. Would recommend spraying for weeds, especially ones that grow stickers. Spent majority of weekend picking stickers/Thorns out of kids’, dog, and adults’ feet as well as carpet, etc. Would be nice to have full hookups and more 50 amp sites.

Had we known the grass was so deep with sticker burrs, we would have brought a lawn mower. If grass is unkept, could we get a notice on our reservation reminder?

The grounds are in excellent condition, free of debris, overgrowth. The restroom and shower facilities were clean, serviceable and safe. Heated water temperatures were perfect. The Gate Staff were very friendly, helpful and showed great interest in our satisfaction and were very visible around the camp sites as well. We enjoyed our stay there from the very first minutes on the camp!! The lake view and surrounding features are so beautiful. Even the late night storms presented an abundance of beauty and exhibited mighty resilience!!! The surrounding towns; Vian, Cookson, are very friendly and welcoming to strangers like us ! We even made some new friends at the local tire repair shop there!! A flat tire was NOT going to deflate our unforgettable experience!!!!
We HAD to go back home ONLY because we had to maintain our lawns! That was the ONLY REASON FOR US TO LEAVE!!!!

The water coming out of the hydrants was yellow, ants everywhere, goathead stickers everywhere I wouldn't recommend camping here.

Grass was not mowed and was knee high at campsite. Water was brown coming out of the hookup, and this park has no cellular service. Not a very pleasant place to stay.

The park looked nice after being closed for a few years.
There needs to be more policing of the loading ramp dock. It seems people are using it for a private marina. At one point there were three boats tied up with only one access for loading/unloading for the boat ramp. We had to climb in their boats and over other parked boats to get to the dock. In addition, one person with an at least 35ft twin I/O Baja just left his boat tied up there!
Also, there was a domestic dispute that required three OHP officers to intervene and take drunks to jail. Only after a fist fight and it was reported that three people were knocked out! Fun family times!
Not the parks fault just a break down in society.

We stayed at site 91. Older part of the park. Very nice and quiet. Few thorns not good for puppies. Other part of the campground has been renovated. Several FCFS

Other campers had extremely loud music from about 7:30 untill well after 10:00. Even inside the RV with the tv on it was bothersome. to add to the bother it was Karaoke so the vocals were not good at all. Quite hours were not observed at all.
We did not see very many park rangers drive through compared to what we used to see. We were there on a Holiday weekend so that was surprising.
It was still a very enjoyable time, even with the less than desirable entertainment and Snake Creek is still one of our favorite places to camp.
