The quiet and the beauty of this campground is remarkable. The camp host was very knowledgeable and friendly and checked in on us often. Taking 80 to 89 and driving two miles in on unpaved road saved us a huge hassle; and I appreciate the previous camper that posted this. I loved my stay at the campground; and the only negative is that there is a one stall bathroom for men and women for the whole campground; so I think it would be wise to bring a roll of toilet paper and a shovel if you decide to camp here.
All of the campers around us were quiet and respectful and it was a great escape from the usual Tahoe crowd.

I was there midweek and had the entire campground to myself. I chose this campground for it's relative remoteness yet easy access, only the very last few miles were on unpaved road. Beautiful setting and only a short walk to the water. The bathrooms were clean and the campsites are well maintained.
I noticed most of the sites were reserved for the weekend so if you are looking for peace and solitude midweek is your best bet. I will definitely return.

Beautiful area but the campsites are almost on top of each other. It was loud every night with people yelling late into the night from the beach area of the reservoir nearby. Hard to sleep. I do not plan on going back.

Very quite place. But keep in mind, the tent ground or the camping spots are not leveled. We camped during july 4th weekend and ran out of toilet paper, there were staff members/officers patrolling the area everyday but no one cleaned nor filled in the toilet paper despite being such a busy weekend. Only 1 male and 1 female toilet (both flush) for 12 campground. Rediculous.

We have a larger trailer and the spot we had was challenging to back into with the curbing. Overall the park was quiet and enjoyable.

Good things:
Gorgeous location with beautiful lake and sierra mountains in the background. Small campgrounds make the place very quiet.
Bad things:
Mosquitoes...Mosquitoes ...Mosquitoes ... A lot of them. We had horrible time dealing with the mosquitoes.
Road - GPS took us through highway 20 and 18. But we had to stop at 11 miles short because of the 11 miles unpaved road. Only 4-wheel drives can make it. We had to come back all the way to I80 and take 89 at Truckee. Even that had 2 miles of unpaved road at the end, but it was OK.

Love this campground but it was the second year in a row where not all of the bathroom facilities were working.

The campsite was nice. This site is the only one with a flushing toilet from what I saw. The lake is not too far. The lake was beautiful. There is plenty of shade, but I’d recommend a canopy for a nice nap.
It got very cold. Take thermal cloths to put under your PJs. All in all it was a great spot.
The Road is not bad.
I took 80 from Sacramento to truckee. I got on hwy 89 in truckee, then a left onto Jackson meadows Road that turned into Dog Valley Rd. I took a left on GraniteValley Rd, a rocky dirt road. It was the only “rough” patch my entire trip and it’s not very long of a drive either. Maintained nicely.
I drove a Subaru Crosstrek for reference.
No problems.

Water availability and facilities were great. No cell service for T Mobile for many miles. Plan accordingly.

Absolutely wonderful. Such a beautiful site and they were spread out enough to enjoy. There are a few other campgrounds in this area but they are spread out as well. The lake was an amazing adventure too. Great bathrooms, good water. Shade is available and the amenities were maintained well.

TO ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF THIS AREA WHO DOESN'T HAVE A HIGH CLEARANCE/ ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE: be extremely cautious with how you are directed to the reservoir. We made the mistake of following the GPS from the San Francisco Bay Area and ended up on a really rough road (Bowman Road). This road is fatal for any car that’s not made for off roading, as we sadly figured out. We weren’t given any other direction on how to get to the campsite other than bowman road, and only after looking at the very bottom of this listing after having to turn around and come home did I see that it said not to follow the GPS. It needs to be clearer to ONLY take the road listed and to to clearly explain that bowman road up to the lake is only for off road capable vehicles. We weren’t even able to make it to the camp site as we had to turn around and limp our car back to the freeway where we found about 2000$ in damage. The road is full of large rocks, and massive dips that are impossible to get around due to the narrowness of the road and the 500 foot drop straight down on one side.
We’re extremely frustrated and disappointed as we had both checked in to how to get to the location many times before finding instructions on some blog post three pages into a google search.
****Please put a notice to all drivers to only take the way specified in the listing, so no one else goes through what we through. On top of it, we weren’t able to get any of our money back because of all the cancellation fees charged for the site. Really really upset, but hoping this will at least help someone else not do what we did.
Updated to add that the proper directions are not even available for mobile devices, only on the desktop site,

Always a great stay, there were few other visitors. Facilities were clean and staff that we ran into were helpful and friendly. We almost had Fir Top to ourselves and the lake was beautiful and mostly quiet.

Campground was great. Problem is the system they use to book reservations. If someone cancels less than 48 hours the site sits empty as opposed to allowing someone else to camp there. Unacceptable that Recreation.gov is managed from a remote site. What a waste of our limited camp sites available already.
