The America the Beautiful Interagency Senior and Access Passes are honored and receive 50% off the nightly rate. Only applicable to the single site the pass holder occupies. The Interagency Annual and Volunteer passes do not provide any discounts on camping.

Directions
From Highway 4, turn onto Spicer Reservoir Road (paved) and go 8 miles. Turn left onto 7N75; from there the roads are gravel. Continue .7 miles to a T-intersection. Follow the Forest Service sign to Sandy Flat Campground.
Spicer Reservoir Road is 27 miles east of the Calaveras Ranger Station in Hathaway Pines, California 95233.

Though this campground is small, there is a LOT of vehicle traffic which goes through the campground. This campground beach is used for people who are canoe / boat camping on Utica. Lake is gorgeous.

There's a lot of confusing information online about this place, as it has gone through some big changes. There are certain months (July and August, I think) that you can reserve Sandy Flat Campground, otherwise it is first come first served. On a busy weekend, that can be insane. I was impressed that the place was in such good shape on July 5th, after a packed holiday weekend. It think it is a testament to Bruce, the campground host, and the responsible campers who help keep the place clean. If you go, don't feed the geese. They are wild animals and don't need your potato chips. This is not a great place for fishing as it is drained every year. I've never seen a fish larger than about 5 inches in the entire 30 years I have been coming. There are now three vault toilets for the entire place... maybe one more at the far end? There is no running water, though there is a faucet about a mile away, near the turnoff, which has yet to be certified as potable, though they are working on it. There is no store. Come prepared, and pack out your trash please. All that said, it is a lovely place to hike, swim, kayak, picnic, and camp.

This place is a gem. It was more beautiful than I expected. Sandy Flat is a small campground with 12 sites. We stayed on site 1. It's a small area but it was perfect for us 6. We fit a 17 ft trailer and a 4 man tent behind it. Thankfully there was additional parking near our site and there appeared to be additional parking at other sites as well. Definitely recommend bringing your floaties if you have them. You absolutely have to bring your canoe, kayak or paddle boards if you have them. There's a non-motorized watercraft dock where many people drop in to launch. There is no running water so bring your jugs and drinking water. There's a spicket on the way there where you can fill up. I traveled 3 hours from West Sacramento to get here and it was worth the drive.
