Very peaceful while I was there, no generators or rowdy neighbors. The tent site was just barely big enough for my six person tent. Could park the car plenty close, no issue there. No camp host at this site, and the closest host seemed to keep banker's hours ("off duty" any time I went there). Had to ask for the bathroom to be unlocked, guess they don't want to clean the bathroom if no one is in the campground. But all in all it was much better than the typical car campgrounds, for those of us in tents who like quiet.

Backpackers is a great campground. Perfect if Pine Marten or Silver Valley are full. Only a few spots but they are better than many of the sites at the two other campgrounds. The road is right there so the fact that you cannot park up to the site is no issue. Very quiet. We stayed at site #6 and is more secluded and very comfortable. It's a short walk to the lake.
We did the hike to Inspiration Point. Definitely worth it. The hike around the lake is quite long since some of it goes around private property. Still a good choice. Joe the host is super super extra nice. We saw a bald eagle hanging out 10 feet above our heads in the trees around the lake. Very cool.

We absolutely loved camping at Lake Alpine, as we do every year with our friends. The scenery is beautiful, the atmosphere is peaceful, and it’s always the perfect place to relax, reconnect, and make great memories together. We’re already looking forward to coming back next year!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Clean and quiet, with running potable water and standard campsite toilets. Very weak intermittent ATT cell signal.

My three kids and I had a great time staying six nights in site #8 of Backpackers Campground. There was a large pad for our tent, plenty of shade and a nice picnic table, fire pit and bear box. The pit toilets were close by across the street as was the water source. There was an abundance of free firewood available to gather in the surrounding area. The midweek part of our stay was especially nice & quiet with only a couple of other campsites occupied. This was remarkable since it was the middle of July! It’s a short walk to the lake and excellent swimming spots.
The only drawback of Backpackers Campground is that it’s situated alongside the only access road to the two large East Shore campgrounds of Lake Alpine. The posted speed limit is 10mph but few adhere to that and some came flying down the road at 40+ mph. I think many of these drivers didn’t realize they’re driving through a campground. A few strategically place signs at each end making people more aware they’re entering a campground along with additional speed limit signs would likely make a difference.
We had a great time here. Be aware that the map posted on recreation.gov does not accurately depict the distances to the only toilets and two water sources. Campsites #3-4 and especially #5 are quite far from them so plan accordingly.
