reservable dates. Pearch Creek Campground lies just north of the small town of
Orleans in the Klamath river valley of the Six Rivers National Forest. Lush
foliage provides welcome shade and relative privacy for each of the
campground's sites.

## Recreation

Salmon and steelhead fishing in the nearby Klamath River is considered some of
the best in northern California. Both Klamath and Salmon Rivers are popular
destinations for whitewater rafting, swimming and kayaking. Both are within a
short drive.

## Facilities

The campground offers 10 single-family campsites. All are suitable for tent
camping, and RVs can access sites 1, 6-10. Each site has a picnic table and
campfire ring with grill. Many have vintage rock stoves as well. A vault
toilet and drinking water are provided.

The campground is located in a mature Douglas fir and hardwood forest. The
sound of nearby Pearch Creek can be heard from most sites and the campground
remains shady and cool during hot summer days. Moss-covered rocks and tree
trunks add to the cooling atmosphere of Pearch Creek.

Open from mid-May through mid-October, this Oak Bottom Campground is on the
Salmon River at Somes Bar, California. It is situated on a shaded and gently
sloping hillside in the expansive Six Rivers and Klamath National Forests, far
from highway noise and city distractions. **NEW:** Each reservable campsite
now has its own bear-resistant food storage locker, as do most of the first-
come first-served campsites. Campsite List calendar starts at the next
available reservation dates.

## Recreation

Located near California's Salmon River, the campground is popular with
whitewater enthusiasts in the spring. Many challenging rapids ranging from
class 3 to 5 are available. Swimming is also popular in the summer and
numerous river access areas are a short drive or walk from the campground. In
the fall, salmon and steelhead trout fishing in the nearby Klamath River is
known to be some of the best in the state.

The campground offers 25 single-family sites. Each site is equipped with a
bear-resistant food storage locker, picnic table, and fire ring with grill.
Some sites have vintage rock stoves as well. Vault toilets and drinking water
are provided. A campground host may be available.

The campground loops around a forested hillside of mixed Douglas fir and
hardwood forest at a 700-foot elevation. Large deciduous trees provide ample
shading for multiple sites within the campground, and a variety of wildlife
makes its home in the area.

The small town of Somes Bar is 2.5 miles from the campground. Propane,
groceries, and tackle are available at a general store.

Nordheimer Group Sites are in a Douglas-fir and hardwood forest close to the
Wild and Scenic California Salmon River. Roads and parking areas are gravel.
Group sites A, B, and C have large grassy meadows surrounded by forest. Site D
overlooks the Salmon River with a short hike access for boaters and swimmers.
Sites A, B and C all have accessible double vault restrooms, while Site D has
one accessible vault restroom. Picnic tables and fire rings with grills are
provided at each site. Popular activities include swimming, sunbathing,
whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, wildlife and scenery viewing, fishing,
and biking.

Nordheimer is in the heart of the Salmon River whitewater area. Rafting
activities begin in the spring and continue until the water levels drop in
early summer. Remnants from historic mining operations can still be seen in
this remote but beautiful camping area. A few fruit trees remain from past
homesteading activities. Nordheimer is a must for those seeking beauty and
seclusion. Boat trailer access to the river’s edge is available through the
main campground for 4x4 vehicles. The main campground also offers spacious
single fee sites on a first-come first-served basis.

There is no cellular service near this remote site.

community center, and a small grocery store and gas station are available.
