Great place to call Basecamp for white water rafting excursions. You can buy a shuttle ride from Bigfoot rafting 1 mile east in Big Flat to Pigeon Point and then float all the way back to camp.

Overall, this was a nice campsite. Numerous picnicking tables, both in shaded and sunny areas, easy drive to rafting outfitters and supplies in Big Flat, great swim spot, and fully stocked latrine.

Excellent location right on the river but kind of close to a major highway, once the traffic slows down in the evening it is great. Don't forget to call the ranger station for the gate code before you go because they are closed on the weekend and Recreation.gov does not give it to you in advance. An extra bonus is it is only a mile from The Straw House that has beer on tap and wine as well as excellent brick oven pizza!

The camp sites are great. There’s lots of space and it’s right on the river. It is also right next to highway, so it is noisy at night.

Nice spot, good shade, lots of tables. Gate was NOT open for us, so call ahead to weaverville ranger station for the code. We kept the gate closed and had 3 separate incidents of people showing up and walking through the middle of camp to use the bathroom. Two of them spoke and asked, the third just trucked on through like he owned the place.

Lovely group site right on the banks of the Trinity River. Plenty of flat, paved parking (probably 20 spots?) and nice shade in the camp area. The highway noise was noticeable but definitely quieted down at night. Mostly just frogs and the river sounds in the evening. The camping spots are a bit of a walk from the parking area, so wagons might be helpful to unload your gear. Also, no bear boxes so food storage is kind of a pain. YOU MUST CALL THE RANGER STATION TO GET THE GATE CODE!! I'm not sure why this information is not included on the site listing, or the confirmation notice. Luckily we saw someone else's review and knew to call ahead. There is zero cell service at this location.
