The campgrounds are well taken care of. spot 26 was surprisingly amazing with some areas to set up that are a slightly recessed ticked out of view and covered by tree shadows. Not at fault to the campgrounds but no campfires were allowed to too high burn alerts. Bummer

This campground is a beautiful setting near the Kern River. Campfires were not allowed due to fire danger and high winds. So, the air was not all smoky which was nice. The campground host was awesome. Our dogs had to stay leashed. There was a menacing skunk and fire ants were all over the place. Overall, it was a wonderful camping experience.

Please, if this is a national park, manage it properly. I have visited this place every single year for the past 12 to 13 years without fail, but is it even reasonable that there is only one entrance to the river? Even then, other campers are setting up their tents, so to get to the river, I have to walk right in front of their tents, which is really dangerous. In particular, the path leading from campsite number 26 to the river was completely ruined by cow dung, trees, and weeds, and it looked like there were about 20 to 30 skunks living there. And you have to be prepared for potential safety accidents. How can the park rangers go home and leave their posts in the evening? It’s not that there was no manager this time; as mentioned in the review, two years ago I went to the management office due to a safety concern at the campsite, but there were no rangers and the office was empty. Thanks to that, we had to pack up all our gear and return home at 11 PM. If you see this and resolve the issues I mentioned, please let me know via email or reply. I want to go back because it is a place with so many memories with my child. However, if these problems are not resolved, I will absolutely never visit Sandy Flat again. The issues I mentioned are not just personal problems for my family; they apply equally to all Americans who enjoy and love camping. I really hope you keep this in mind.

This site was very small. There was another, bigger area where you could put a tent higher up above the rocks, but it wasn't feasible with a small child. There were lots of big groups of people camping, some respected quiet hours and some did not. Our site had tons of food trash everywhere when we arrived (marshmallows, candy, chips) and was overrun by ants. The river was lovely and the port a potties and pit toilets were very clean. I think this would be a nice campground if you could get a site with more space further away from loud groups. We also had a skunk living nearby that came through the site a few times after the sun went down, which was cool to see

Overall great stay. Recommend bringing a canopy or some type of shade as some sites don’t have much shade during the day. Be aware of fire restrictions and come prepared. No cell service (wasn’t a problem for us) so plan accordingly. Easy access spots for fishing the river. Some calm water spots to enjoy the water and not have to worry about the killer kern. Recommend

I thought this was a very pretty campground. The river was beautiful and the host was nice. My only suggestion is that the bathrooms need a lot of cleaning. The outhouses were nasty.

Location was awesome. Host was friendly and also kept out of the way. The river spots weren’t the best for swimming and this is very much a tent camping location. It’s good for the price but I will be looking into other locations to try on my next river trip

This place is so great for family camping. you have the lake to enjoy , so many other families with kids here as well. The camp site is clean, and you have water for washing, clean and cooking. The only thing is bring hats, and canopies because it gets really hot during the day all the way to sun down.

Gorgeous location, a bit of a steep walk down and back from the restrooms and the riverside. This has been a favorite spot for millennia, you can find evidence of that in the rocks. Nothing compares to the Kern and the surrounding area.

Some of the sites dont have fire rings and only have a bbq stove to burn wood! We liked this site because it was by itself. Some others were really close together! Camp host Kenny was so nice and the bathrooms were super clean! Loved the river and exploring the trails around camp! Had such a good time! It's close to markets & stores if you need anything too!

We loved this site! It was large and had plenty of room to spread out. Large enough to set up multiple tents. It was the closest site to the river. It was close to the restroom but not too close. The water spigot is next to the bathroom. Bathrooms were super clean. It definitely is close to the next site, but if you situate your tents far enough, you are not right next to each other. Being the closest to the water has its downside as this site is the one with water access. People were respectful not to walk through our site and go on the edge of the site. Will definitely return.

The campground is pretty with large granite boulders and river running through. It is a beautiful place. However, timing will either make or break your experience here. This site is cursed with city people who insist on playing obnoxious music at all hours. Our experience had 5 different groups competing to dominate with their music volume. The sites are close together, and the sites on the uphill side will dominate for sound. There was an abundance of large groups their to party, drink, and blast music. Not my idea of camping. The camp host did attempt to stop the music at 10pm. However, people hear him coming with his gas powered golfcart, they stop their music, and they restart it once he is gone. Also, the hosts site is far enough away that he doesn't hear the music from his site. Unfortunately, I will not return to this site. Another comment is that Remington Hot Springs is only 5-10 minutes away. We visited the location which was also a negative experience. There were a lot of people, many of which were drinking at 11am, and trash everywhere. There were soiled diapers in the bushes, beer cans and bottles laying around, and the worst was graffiti on some of the boulders in the river. So sad to see people mistreat the great outdoors this way.

This campground was easy to find and runs near a creek. Unfortunately, we did not end up setting up camp and staying the night. When we pulled into the campground a medium sized unleashed dog ran up to our car jumping, barking and growling and following our vehicle. Apparently this was the hosts dog. He did not make any attempt to contain the dog and told us that eventually the dog would stop. We were told our campsite was not ready yet, so we looped around the campground and noticed that there was only one other group of campers there (at our site). The campground being completely empty and having a loose aggressive dog off leash running around the campground made us very uncomfortable, so we decided not to camp there.

We had booked a site online and had no idea that it wasn't accessible by a vehicle. The camp host helped us select another site that we could use our camper van on. He had indicated that the website doesn't describe the sites correctly, which was annoying, but we were so fortunate the there were other spots available and we really appreciated how accommodating and welcoming the camp host was.

Loved the spot we were able to snagged due to so many people canceling their reservation, plus it was a super hot weekend as well. Site 22 had plenty of space and we were right next to the lake! Definitely recommend. I originally had site 34, and I didn’t realize how small it was for my group plus 2 dogs. Thanks to the park ranger for helping us out. We were closer to the restroom which is a plus for me. Overall, my first experience at the campground was wonderful and we had a blast! Will plan for another camping trip but in the cooler weather!

We had site 24, and it is not a whole lot of space, but we made do. It's great for 2 campers, but we had 5. There *is* one little secluded spot for your tent, but the rest of the space is pretty small and very close to another camp site. We were close to the river and bathrooms, a plus for sure. Overall it's a nice campground, good river access, clean (as clean as vault toilets can get) bathrooms, and a super friendly host. We had a blast.
