Overview
Buckeye Flat Campground is located in Sequoia National Park, in the heart of the Sierra Foothills. The campground sits at an elevation of 2,800 feet, perched above the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River and shaded by a stand of large Live Oaks. Whether you are visiting the spectacular sequoia trees in the Giant Forest or backpacking into the wilderness of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Buckeye Campground offers a convenient starting point. Located just six miles from the Ash Mountain Entrance Station, the campground is within a 30-minute drive to countless miles of trails and natural wonders.Facilities
Buckeye Flat Campground offers 27 reservable campsites accommodating tents only. Picnic tables, fire rings and food storage lockers are provided at each site. Flush toilets and drinking water are available within the campground.Natural Features
The Foothills consist of the lower elevations of Sequoia National Park, where the grassy valley floor gives way to granite peaks. Oaks, chaparral and river canyons are plentiful here in an area with more biological diversity than the conifer forests and High Sierra combined. Winters are relatively snow-free and mild; summer is characterized by hot and dry weather. Wildlife is frequently seen in the area, including the American Black Bear, mule deer and bobcats, as well as numerous bird species.Nearby Attractions
Buckeye Flat Campground is located within a 30-minute drive from the Giant Forest, home to the largest trees on Earth. Moro Rock, Crescent Meadow and the Congress Trail are also located in the Giant Forest area, as well as numerous other opportunities for exploration in Sequoia National Park.The Crystal Caves are about a 45 minute drive (16 miles/26 km) from the campground. Charges & Cancellations
- Payment in full will be charged to your credit card upon completion of the reservation. A $10.00 service fee will apply if you change or cancel your reservation. Additional fees will apply for late cancellations.
- All cancellations made between midnight on the day before arrival and check out time on the day after arrival are considered late cancellations and will incur a $10.00 cancellation fee and will also forfeit the first night’s use fee. Cancellations for a single night’s reservation will forfeit the entire use fee but no cancellation fee will apply.

Fees
* ENTRANCE FEES APPLY: 1-7 Day Pass- $35 per vehicle (private, non-commercial). $20 per person (on foot, on bicycle, or bus). $30 per motorcycle (not per person). 12 month pass available at Ash Mountain & Big Stump Entrance Stations. Check www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/fees.htm for details.
* CAMPING FEES: $32 per night for Regular Camping and $16 per night for valid lifetime Access Pass, lifetime Senior Pass, and annual Senior Pass. No other passes receive reduced rates.
* Failure to notify the campground prior to 12:00 pm noon the day following your scheduled arrival may result in your reservation being cancelled.
Directions
Buckeye Flat Campground is easily accessed from Visalia, California and
Highway 99. Follow Highway 198 East from Visalia for 36 miles, until you reach
the Ash Mountain Entrance Station. The campground is located 6 miles beyond
the entrance station, across from Hospital Rock. Please visit our website

The forest was in very bad shape due to fire and drought. The stream water had been invaded by bacteria and was a tea brown color.

Buckeye Flat #4 was a Beautiful site. Well situated and enough privacy to be able to completely unwind. Though no campfires it was still a wonderful experience and the Park Rangers, Staff and everyone I interacted with were Welcoming and overall just AWESOME. This was a kick the bucket list dream of mine and SEKI, Buckeye Flat made it PERFECT

Stayed in #19 for a night with my boyfriend. We used our roof top tent on top of his truck and it worked perfectly! Bathrooms were very clean and hiking trails to the river were close by. The rangers were also very nice too! The site wasn’t packed, which made the stay even better. (p.s. it’s a pretty narrow road to get to the site, and there’s no reception) Would definitely come again!!!

Temperatures were not too bad, considering the heatwave, but there were a lot of yellowjackets that made it very difficult to cook and eat any food, and with the fire ban, there was no way to repel them. Definitely something to be aware of if you (like me) are allergic to wasps. Other than that, there is a nice calm part of the river close by that is clean, cold, and refreshing, and the restroom and sink facilities are nice.

I find it very disturbing that so many sites remain empty but are booked on the website. A entire revamp of the reservation process is needed asap.

We love camping here at Sequoia! The weather was perfect! Plan for the rain though because it was raining for 3 days while we were here. But we loved it! Also, there was a bear roaming our site for 2 nights, so please make sure to put all food and scented items in your bear box. Do not leave any food in your car or out! One camper left a whole cooler in their truck bed and the bear was able to get to it and damage their car. So please be mindful and do not allow any bears to get a hold of your food or they will keep coming back. Other that we had a great day at the River and nights at our site!

This is a very beautiful small intimate site but unfortunately I had a bad experience. That was a large group of friends which occupied three neighboring sites which happen to be right opposite the site I had booked. This group of friends although in their mid-30s to mid 40s with children, didn’t have any respect for any other campers. At about 8 PM on one night they brought out a large ghetto blaster and started playing loud music which every single site would have heard. Discontinued well beyond quiet time which I believe was posted everywhere is 10 PM. They are also playing loud games beyond 10 PM. They didn’t seem to be any camp host on site or anyone reinforcing this role. Also, I did walk around the site at about 8 PM myself just to see what the rest of the sites were like, and I noticed that for other sites had their fire pits burning even though it was clearly posted everywhere that they were no wood-burning fires or charcoal fires allowed due to fire risk. My advice to you ever manages this site is to check in more often and ensure that the campers are adhering to the rules ensuring safety for everyone in the park and all the other campers can enjoy their stay. Apart from this it’s a beautiful well run clean site from what I could see. I would definitely come back again and hope that I have a better experience

We arrived at site 20 (the handicap accessible site) during the day, and it was well over 95° … the campground itself is beautiful, however, site 20 is unprotected, with no shade and no cover. We decided to abandon ship, and head up to Lodgepole and take our changes on a walk-in

Clean sites, nice trails to the river, restroom facilities were clean. Park staff toured the area each day and took the time to talk to the campers. Wonderful time, be back next year.

I wish I could upload photos but I can’t. Anyway the camping site spot #8 is very cute and lots of space. Although if have small toddlers it may be overwhelming because it’s next to a small elevated ditch. Do not quote me because I do not know what to call it. Sorry. But it’s the best I can describe it. Picnic table good. Fire pit good. Although we could not use firewood only propane. We understand though. Bear box good. Flushing restroom very clean. The camping site is a very small walking distance from a river. Oh almost forgot the entrance road to get there drive very cautiously. Expect to have cars driving opposite direction from you. The road is really cozy. Thank God is not that far from the camping site. Overall it was fun!! Thank you!!

There was a lot of very high dead weeds through out camp ground. Kids were not able to play since around camp due to weeds getting stuck on clothes. Also many broken limbs on trees that can easily be removed.

It was a great experience staying at this campsite. Plenty of room for 2 tents. (I stayed at #6) There is a river near the campsite. It was very relaxing. No cellphone reception. Make sure to bring something for mosquitoes!
The park has so many things to see. Ask at visiter center for research before hand.
Oh! Make sure to get there with full tank of gas. The park is very big!

Great campground! The road to it was a little sketchy as it is narrow and on a cliff. BUT, the bathrooms were very clean, flush toilets, the creek was easy to access and relaxing.

One of the best national parks in the country, clean bathrooms, beautiful location. My complain is not with the park but a call to campers to be quiet. I camped next to a group of young adults in their early 20s and, why would they have to play loud music? We go to the parks to listen to nature, the birds, the rivers, the silence. Please respect, if you want to listen to music, stay in your patio in the city.

There were flush toilets, which seemed to be cleaned daily, and a nice river flowing nearby that was great for morning or evening tea. The road to the campground from the main road through Sequoia National Park was barely two lanes (more like one) and had a cliff on one side, but we never encountered anyone going the opposite direction, but be prepared for that. Overall, GREAT camp ground!!

We had campsite 24. It was a handicap accessible spot and it was paved with cement from where you park your car, around the fire pit and a personal pathway directly to the bathroom which was unexpected but much enjoyed. It does make the tent space very limited because you cant nail your tent down into the ground. But I don’t think it ever gets windy enough up there for that to be a problem. Only if your tent requires being nailed down in order for it to be assembled. Bathrooms were great, cleaned every morning. There is NO potable water. So you must bring your own drinkable water. That bit was a bummer because we didn’t. Walking around looking at all the sites, they are all very different and none of them look like the pictures used when you make your reservation. They REALLY need to update those photos. Tons of trees, LOTS of shade. Three walking trails we found within the campsite. We stayed for 4 days and it was extremely relaxing. We loved it.

Great campground. very easy to find and conveniently located. Road is a little narrow on the way in, but overall was very easy to get in and out (we stayed at site 1). Would definitely go back!

Great site. Little bit of a hill back and forth to the river, but worth it. The drive here was a little scary, but again worth it if you only have to drive it once a day.
