Beginning May 22, 2026, possessing and consuming alcohol will be prohibited along the recreational section of the Wild and Scenic Illinois River. The prohibition does not apply to private lands within the closure boundary. This prohibition will last through September 30, 2026.
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR § 261.50 (a) and (b), the following act is prohibited on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, within the Wild Rivers Ranger District, Illinois River Corridor as described below and depicted on Exhibits A and B. This Order will be effective May 22, 2026, through September 30, 2026, and May 28, 2027, through September 30, 2027, unless rescinded sooner.
PROHIBITION:
- Possessing an alcoholic beverage as defined by Oregon State law. [36 CFR § 261.58 (bb)]
ILLINOIS RIVER CORRIDOR ALCOHOL PROHIBITION CLOSURE AREA:
The Illinois River Corridor Alcohol Prohibition Closure Area (“Closure Area”) boundary is ¼ mile from each side of Forest Service Road #4103, beginning where Forest Service Road #4103 crosses the Forest boundary in the Southwest ¼ of the Northeast ¼ of Section 8, T.38S, R.8W., continuing west, and ending at the intersection of Forest Service Road #4103 and Forest Service Road #087 in the Southwest ¼ of the Northwest ¼ of Section 33, T.37S., R.9W., Josephine County, Willamette Meridian. The Closure Area does not include private lands within the boundary.
The Closure Area includes the following developed recreation sites: Kerby Flat Trailhead, Kerby Flat Day Use Area, Snailback Trailhead, Horn Bend Trailhead, Sixmile Campground, Sixmile Day Use Area, River Bench Campground, Divers Hole Day Use Area, Store Gulch Campground, Store Gulch Day Use Area, Echo Beach Campground, and Iron Ring Day Use Area. The Closure Area also includes Cedar Camp Campground and the land within a ¼-mile radius around the campground boundary. Exhibit B.
The Closure Area includes all National Forest System roads and trails within the boundaries of the Closure Area.
This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for a corporation or imprisonment for not more than six months or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3551, 3559, 3571, and 3581.
