Staying at the Whitehorse campground provides access to several activites
located in the greater Bucks Lake area. Fishing, boating, and canoeing, as
well as hiking are all activities that can be achieved by staying in this
campground. There are walking trails to the lake. A hiking trail runs from the
campground and provides access to the Bucks Lake Wilderness and the Pacific
Crest Trail. Marinas and boat docks are also within a short drive as well as
restaurants at the Lakeside Resort and Bucks Lake Lodge which will re-open
under new management in the summer for 2025, weather permitting. Limited
supplies and a deli are located at the Haskins Valley Store just a short drive
away.

## Overview

Hutchins Group Campground is the perfect location for groups who want to
explore the greater Bucks Lake area of the Plumas National Forest. This
campground was severely impacted by the Dixie Fire in 2021. Timber salvage
management has left the campground barren and hot so prepare by providing
adequate shade for your stay.  
  
American Land & Leisure are the concession operators working for PG&E; to
service the campgrounds, boat ramps and day use areas that are owned by the
USDA Forest Service.

## Recreation

The greater Bucks Lake area provides ample opportunities for fishing, boating,
and canoeing. The boat ramp at Shady Point provides a boat dock to launch
boats, showers, and day use picnicking. Hiking trails are only a short drive
away with trailheads located in the Mill Creek Campground, Mill Creek
Trailhead on the way to Bucks Summit, and at Bucks Summit where the PCT or
Bucks Creek Loop trail are located.

THIS CAMPGROUND CURRENTLY HAS NO WATER. Water is available at the nearby Sandy
Point Day Use Area and Haskins Campground.

The campground offers three large group campsites for tent and RV camping.
Each site has a limit of eight vehicles and 24 people.  
  
Multiple tables and campfire rings with grills are provided, as well as vault
toilets . A roving campground host is available intermittently to answer
questions and provide additional information.  
  
There are several boat ramps available around the perimeter of the 1,820-acre
lake, including the closest one to Hutchins, at Sandy Point. A convenience
store with gas, phone and propane is located within five miles of the
campground.

point to explore the greater Bucks Lake area. Hot days, followed by cooler
nights, provide the perfect atmosphere for camping. This campground would be a
great place for star gazers night owls who really appreciate a wide open sky

Wilderness borders the lake and the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail System
traverses the surrounding area. A wilderness permit is not required; however,

High alpine lakes, granite boulders and blue bird skies are treats for those
who camp here. Access to hiking is located along the eastern side of Silver
Lake. Continue up and on to Bucks Summit on the PCT or climb the prominent
Spanish Peak where the ole look out once stood.

OHV routes also leave from the campground area but were severely impacted by
the Dixie Fire in 2021 and have not been maintained so be aware of hazard
trees and other debris that might slow down your route.

## Overview

Snake Lake is located at approximately 3900 ft in elevation and is about 8
miles from the quaint town of Quincy, CA. Upon arriving, you are greeted by a
mixed pine and fir forest as well as the shallow, lilly pad filled Snake Lake.
Easy access to multi use trails can be found within the Snake Lake Basin.

## Recreation

This campground is a hub of activity and hosts staging areas for mountain
biking, equestrian, and OHV use. Play hard and respect everyones rights and
activies. This is one of the only campgrounds that has use access to forest
roads directly from the campground.

## Facilities

These improvements can be found at each campsite:

  * Food storage locker 
  * Vault toilets 

For the equestrian users there is a small corral and a ADA mounting ramp

  * Please use certified weed-seed-free feed for horses

  * Use the provided corrals or hitching posts to stage horses; use high lines with tree saver straps to protect trees and minimize impact while dispersed camping

Valley Reservoir, approximately four miles from the town of La Porte, CA. This
campground is the largest campground at the reservoir and is adjacent to a
swimming beach, boat launch ramp, amphitheater, and Lakeshore Trail.

## Recreation

Little Grass Valley Recreation Area offers opportunities for many recreation
experiences. Three boat launch ramps provide access to the water for fishing,
water-skiing, sailing, or simply touring on boats. There is a wheel chair
accessible fishing ramp at the dam. Two beaches provide excellent swimming and
picnicking opportunities - one of which is located adjacent to the Little
Beaver Campground. The Lakeshore Trail (13.5 miles) winds around the entire
lake and is open for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Additional
hiking trails abound in the area and include the nearby Pacific Crest Trail.
Visitors may also enjoy watching wildlife, campfire programs, or exploring

on the south side. The campground is also the center of a popular snowmobiling

small, natural lily pond, called Fowler Lake. This beautiful site is perfect

Horse Camp is located on the eastern shore of the Little Grass Valley Reservoir, giving visitors ample opportunity to fish, swim, boat and enjoy nature.

The camp is one of eight campgrounds in the area, but the only one equipped to handle equestrian campers. It provides access to a beautiful, adjacent mountain lake and various hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails that meander through the scenic hills and valleys.<h2>Recreation</h2>
The 1,615-acre lake provides ample opportunities for visitors to fish, boat, swim and water ski. Anglers can expect a catch of a variety of trout and kokanee salmon, among other species of fish, however, fishing licenses are required to participate.

The Lakeshore Trail, which loops 14.5 miles around the lake, is available for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The trail connects to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which stretches from 2,650 miles from Canada to Mexico, across three states. A variety of day hikes can be done on portions of the trail.<h2>Facilities</h2>
The campground offers 10, single-family equestrian campsites, available for tent and RV camping. Eight of these sites are available to reserve online. Hookups are not available and the parking surfaces are gravel. Lantern posts and hitching posts are provided at each site.
